A user was banned from /r/askreddit and created a thread in /r/century club about it. He included this image of his conversation with the mod.

The mod appeared in the thread defending the ban but the prevailing opinion was that it was a huge overreaction. Thread can be found here. /r/centuryclub is private, but here is a relevant screenshot from the thread.

It's pretty amazing how funny they are when they don't get special treatment.

Yeah it was pretty entitled of him to inquire about a ban and get called an idiot for it. It's a shame that this isn't special treatment and, apparently, how you respond to modmail normally.

You've already had your ban explained time and time again. You provided a real address and you were banned as per the rules. It doesn't matter how much you complain in other subs and try to call us out.

I've only mentioned it in /r/centuryclub and /r/circlebroke.

You don't have to keep explaining the ban, I understand the rules. I immediately said I would have been happy to delete the post. The only reason it's even controversial is because of your attitude.

Clearly you don't.

> 4) Posting, or seeking, any identifying personal information will result in a ban without a prior warning.

My attitude is that I have no patience for people that don't respect others. You still to this moment have no realisation that your actions can hurt other people and I find that despicable. If that makes me a terrible mod so be it.

Quit with the condescension and martyrdom, please.

>My attitude is that I have no patience for people that don't respect others.

That's rich coming from a guy who uses his mod position for puerile insults with no provocation. What makes you a terrible mod was your attitude, not you enforcing the rules.

We've had this discussion already and I don't think I can say anything you haven't already heard. If you want to obstinately defend your actions in the face of everyone agreeing you're in the wrong, fine. I'm sure that my /r/askreddit ban will never be lifted since this is now public and you'd rather a bad action stand than lose face by lifting it. I'll live with being banned on /r/askreddit on my main.

Yes, clearly.

Actually, you won't be unbanned because you don't recognise what you did wrong. We've given people with similar incidents time bans when it has appeared that they genuinely made a mistake and were sorry that they had. If you'd come to us and actually shown the slightest bit of contrition, you probably would've been unbanned in roughly 2-7 days. Instead, you argued the point and complained in private subs. Nothing you've done since the incident makes us think that you're ever going to change your behaviour and telling us that you're just going to circumvent the ban is all we need to know to make the ban permanent. The funniest part is that only 2 days before the incident you responded to a post by DavidReiss that explained exactly what you needed to do and you replied by saying that you'd rather be banned than apologise. How is that strategy working for you?

The slightest bit of contrition? I was nothing but respectful to you in our initial communication and you immediately lashed out at me. It's funny that you say "all you had to do was" when you tell me to go away in your 2nd reply to me. Don't pretend that the door was left open after that. I'm not sure why you keep thinking that my first reply was trying to justify myself, my initial reaction was that you thought I was actually trying to dox somebody.

>The funniest part is that only 2 days before the incident you responded to a post by DavidReiss that explained exactly what you needed to do and you replied by saying that you'd rather be banned than apologise. How is that strategy working for you?

Is this what you're talking about?

>What you're saying is true and I've done it a few times when I've fucked up and been banned legitimately. However, just like you say in your post, sometimes mods make mistakes and make bad bans. I'd rather just stay banned from a sub rather than apologizing for doing nothing wrong.

I stand by that. I'm not going to kowtow to a powertripping mod if I did nothing wrong. However, I never said that I did nothing wrong here. From the beginning I've said constantly that I would have been happy to delete my post. Doesn't that imply that I'm willing to follow the rules and correct actions that accidentally break them? I explicitly said it in the modmail

>I said several times here and in that thread that I'm willing to abide by the rules. I said I would have deleted it if asked. Yes, I think it's being applied ridiculously; but I also said that it's not my place to break your rules just because I don't agree. To be clear, I do understand the rule and I'm happy to follow it. I don't think I've said or implied anything differently.

You keep trying to swing this back on me like I'm refusing to follow the rules. Can you quote anything I've said that would give you that impression? I've been very careful to say, time and time again, that I'm happy to follow the rules.

I don't really understand how you can think that not being rude and contrition are the same thing. Man, if I'd broken a sitewide rule and something that is explicitly mentioned on the sidebar as being banned without prior warning, I wouldn't have been arguing the point.

I'll freely admit that I was short with you but at the end of the day, you posted some person's address. I care more about that person's right to not have their address posted on a subreddit that sees 10 million unique views a month than your right to make a stupid joke. If for a second you'd considered that person, your reaction to being banned would've been very different.

You do realize that your syllables don't need to increase with your karma, right? Nobody thinks more of you just cause you use big words.

Nobody really thinks you're right, and nobody really thinks this is your 'main account' either. You were a complete dick in our modmail and now you're trying to act like we have it out for you.

Like INJ said your ban will remain because you're the one acting like a martyr, not because this is public. All it takes is a little humility for us to reconsider a ban, and it happens every day. I'm really not sure why you feel you should be exempt from the rules that all ~5MM of our users are held to.

Don't you have anything better to do with your time?

LOL, now I'm getting criticized for using "big words"? You could have said what you wanted to say without your little insults.

I'd be happy to post the rest of the modmail here if you'd like. I've been nothing be respectful and polite this entire time. You can try to spin it like I'm the one being a dick, but the history is there for all to see.

I'm good man, I'm also a mod so I've seen all the modmails with you, and all of the history is only available to about 34 of us (not just the history that you think is in your favor)
