[Classic drama] User suggests in /r/MensRights that women should be better portrayed in video games. MR users disagree: "I don't interfere with your romcoms and soap operas, why must you interfere with my games about shooting aliens?" (np.reddit.com)

How dare we demand a couple games that aren't about a scruffy white dude.

maybe gaming companies know their audience better than you? maybe they aren't interested in wasting hundreds of millions to satisfy some ideological nonsense?

if you think there's a significant audience who wants to buy video games with overweight intersex protagonists spouting feminist claptrap, then why don't you make such a game yourself and retire with your $100 million fortune afterwards? if people actually buy it, the other companies will also start making such games.

Wow, you killed that straw argument! Impressive.

the whole "representation in gaming" complaint boils down to

>why don't AAA studios make games for me personally, ME ME ME ME!

Actually, that's your argument.

It's not about me at all.

AAA studios know better than you what kind of content will sell.

Patriarchy theories are cute, but if you had to run a company and make sure that your people still have a job next year, market research starts to trump ideology.

>there are quite a few games who feature women protagonists.

So which is it? Do they not sell so they don't get made, or do they sell and that's why there's 'quite a few'?

Whichever's more appropriated for the questions posited at any one time.

The main point here, as well as the main point of the evil boogeyMRAs:

it's not a patriarchal conspiracy that there are so few Healthy At Every Size protagonists. It's supply and demand.

Hilarious to claim 'boogeyMRAs' in one breath and pull the tired 'patriarchy is a feminist conspiracy theory' in the next

They make as many as will sell.

I don't care if they make more games with women protagonists or not. I will buy a game if it seems like I'd enjoy it, and if not then I wont.

It's not my place to tell companies what games to make. It's their problem if nobody will buy their game. That's why they focus on making games that gamers want to buy.

Why do you know better what will sell than companies who are risking billions of dollars on these decisions?

>They make as many as will sell.

So people have a quota for how many female protagonists they can handle? People look at games and say 'I'd love to buy this awesome game, but I just played Portal again, so I can't take another game about a woman'?

>I don't care if they make more games with women protagonists or not.

You're bitching a hell of a lot for someone who doesn't care.

>It's not my place to tell companies what games to make. It's their problem if nobody will buy their game. That's why they focus on making games that gamers want to buy.

Please find me these people who are commanding video game companies from their blogs and YouTube channels

>Why do you know better what will sell than companies who are risking billions of dollars on these decisions?

When did I ever claim that? Please stick to what I'm actually saying.

Aw, you think you know how the world works! How adorable! I hate to break it to you, but Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny? They're both doing your Mom. That's why the tags on the gifts from them have her handwriting.

What? Don't you have a legally binding contract with St. Nick? If not, you ought to get your legal dept. on that. Totally cuts down on unexpected coal and drastically increases your cool-stuff-to-socks-and-boring-undies ratio.

Wow, did you just pull a "have sex with your mom" joke in a thread about obnoxious video game culture? I see where you truly stand in all this. You're just like one of those 12 year olds screaming while playing Call of Duty... Or just ridiculously immature and childish for your age.

Perhaps I'm poking fun at that very culture, and the pitiful defense for maintaining that culture which is occurring in this very thread.

But that would only occur to people who understand how silly it all is. You know, people who have a mature and not stupidly sexist worldview?

Judging by the maturity of this comment, I'm older than you. Which means I've been gaming longer than you.

Get the fuck out of my hobby, casual. Who are you to demand that gaming cater to your needs to never have a female or POC or LGBTQ protagonist? Who are you to demand that gaming disregard every social progress we've made in the last five decades?

I've been here longer than you. This is my hobby. You're just in it because all these men praise other men for being gaming bros like them. You collect all those gaming memes and cultural artifacts to be cool, don't you? All men who are into gaming don't know how us real gamers feel about this industry that we collectively own. I totally have this mind-body connection to the gaming industry, dude. It's something you can't understand. Your gender just means that you're not welcome here, marketing doesn't cater to you, because we spend more money. We're real gamers, not you.

If I sound like I'm full of shit, that's because I'm using the same "logic" you are.

so you're old and bad at reasoning.

>Which means I've been gaming longer than you. Who are you to demand that gaming cater to your needs

I'm not really a gamer, and I don't! I don't give a fuck about anyone catering to me.

Make a game with POC LBGTGUILTYCONSCIENCE protagonists! If it seems good, people will play it, if not they won't.

But before you risk your $120M investment on that, how about some market research first?

You literally don't understand that I'm being satirical. I'm throwing your own reasoning back at you. How about your market research your own damn opinions, which certainly are not "games should cater to me and nobody else." You know, the exact thing you're railing against.

the unwelcoming atmosphere can't be so bad, if you've been playing games for decades.

It hasn't, actually. Most people aren't like you, and they don't think that women aren't gamers because we have vaginas. But that doesn't mean that I don't get to criticize a game I played through all the way and spent $60 on, just because I'm going to do in a sociological way that bothers you.

Uhm where did i think any of that?

Obviously there are lots of women gamers, even of $60 kind of games. Just not remotely 40%, SJWs could save themselves a lot of criticism if they stopped repeating false statistics.

and please criticize whatever you want. Just like everybody else.
