There are a lot of times when someone should not be on reddit. But, and this may surprise you, the human brain isn't a logically programmed operating system. Just as you'll find people who drink energy drinks late at night when they have to work in the morning or people going to a bar with their friends when they are already dangerously close to missing rent, you'll find people come to reddit during trying times. I posted a picture of my stepsister having a homecoming in a hospice on the anniversary of her death to leukemia when I probably should've been speaking to a therapist so it wouldn't eat me whole later. Wasn't for the karma in terms of numbers on a screen, it was because I wanted everyone to witness how wonderful she was and that she could still smile and be happy in the face of imminent tragedy. That small hope that she wouldn't leave to oblivion entirely if people around the world got a chance to witness her and maybe develop even the tiniest memory of her existence.
Maybe that's the same thing OP wanted. I think, deep down, most of us want that kind of legacy to happen after our death, knowing that we had at least some impact on the world to be remembered.
And for fucksake, it's not like /r/pics isn't full of plenty of other pics for you to upvote and comment on. Just fucking downvote and move on instead of being an insufferable twat who cares far more about karma than anyone posting the pictures. I don't see those same cunts bitching about the thousandth photo of on middle standing outside a government building with their citizen papers, which is an event that happens thousands of times a day just like death. So your convictions aren't really all that strong, you just want a cheap comment karma grab and a chance to shit on someone for whatever fucked up reasoning you've validated inside.
Ehn, the downvote and move on thing does not necessarily do anything. That's why people take the extra effort to voice their disapproval and it can go both ways. If people resign to dowvoting and moving on, the amount of racist and sexist shite on Reddit would be overwhelming, same as the no sob story pics. At the end of the day the voting majority are more than the commenting minority.
Sounds like people just need to grow up and realize their unique view of what reddit should be doesn't match with the millions of users and bitching about it every day with the same trite comments isn't going to change anything.
And racist/sexist bullshit is usually against the rules of most subs. So that comparison doesn't really apply.

Actually, it did address your point, that being that "downvoting does nothing so people need to shit up the comments to restor redit". That shitting up hasn't fixed anything in the history of reddit, nor will the commenting magically make a submission's score drop.
Downvoting is all that will change how highly a submission is ranked, which is kinda the basic idea of how reddit works. Do you really think a bunch of cunty commenters are going to change anyone's minds about what the choose to post? How often do you legitimately see someone on reddit change their mind about something because some asshole called them a faggot karma whore? Ever? Huh? Cause I highly fucking doubt it.

I'm sorry but I did not say that. I said it goes both ways. Commenting disapproval both helps to sway general trends on Reddit, especially regarding controversial topics that's why I used racism and sexism. Again, just so you understand, it goes both ways, mate.

Again, this is a lot of bollocks which can easily be contested especially when you consider posts that get linked to bestof. The intial posts gcould be rocketing to 3000+ karma but the moment someone on /r/bestof or even in the linked post, makes a convincing counter arguement, there's a noticeable swing in voting. Reddit has a very vocal underbelly of bullying especially in posts that have minorities, women or fat people. How many times do you see such posts centered on any of the three groups I listed hit the front page? Now how many times did you see negative comments in those posts?
You want to tell me that the typical comments those posts receives has not in anyway factored into the kind of things posted on Reddit?
