I love that song. That's pretty cool.

I just always get so conflicted when I'm singing along with it, and then Dre goes to drop the N word twice in the first verse.

Don't say the word, I don't know why it's conflicting. People who act like not saying one word ruins their rapping along confuse me.

Edit: I take comfort in knowing that the people who downvoted me would never say the n word in front of an actual black person because they know they would get their ass beat faster than they could mumble "but it's in the sooong."

if its in a song 90% of black people dont care

honestly white people are more self conscious about saying the n-word than they should be. most of us dont care as long as you dont overdo it in a "tryin to be hood" kind of way and don't drop the hard R. Hard R will get your ass beat though, but saying nigga in a rap song is harmless. Yall just been so spooked into not saying it in any context at all, but honestly its not that big of a deal if its in a song, or you're quoting someone, or its a part of a joke, or something like that. we understand social cues, we understand context.

"most of us"

oh cool I'll be sure to tell the black people I know if they get mad that I found a spokesperson for all, sorry, most black people on line and so it's totally legit live from the reddit dot com

i obviously cant speak for all black people but in my extensive personal experience i dont think ive ever met anyone who gets irrationally mad to the point of wanting to fight because a white person said nigga in a rap song

if that was the case then fights would break out at rap shows all the time

there's a difference between saying the n word and calling me an n word

if you say it, okay whatever. if you call me that, however, now we may have issue

Yeah I mean just as long as you know someone is reading your comments and gonna use them as an excuse to say shit

I go to a really white college and recently a famous hip hop artist came and all of the black students I spoke to about it felt uncomfortable in crowds of white people shouting NIGGAAAAA

i feel the same way, but honestly, there's nothing you can do about it. they're the majority. white people have the luxury of the word bearing no weight to them. when they are screaming nigga at a rap concert, race isnt even on their mental. to them, its just slang that their favorite rapper uses. its essentially meaningless to them. it obviously isnt to you and me, and you would hope that they understand what they're saying does have meaning beyond some rap song to a lot of people, but thats a pipe dream honestly. america is woefully uneducated on race relations. and were it not for all those white people screaming nigga, that rapper wouldn't have a career, and hip-hop would still be relegated to some dudes in a brooklyn basement. cant have white people financing your music and then turn around and put restrictions on their involvement. they wont let that fly. just is what it is.

times are changing.

I just like to err on the side of not making people feel uncomfortable. That's really all it is. I'm not shouting at anyone to stop saying it if they're white but I will tell them hey that makes some ppl sad like maybe don't do it? And generally nice people will oblige bit this the internet so whatevs I guess

Edit: missed a chance to make a because the internet joke and I fucking hate myself for it

Also, be sure to tell them that you too felt the need to be the spokesman for all black people, I'm sure they'll love that.

When did I say that? I just think there's a chance someone will be made uncomfortable so why risk it by saying it. I never said I speak for black people.

Your first comment is essentially policing other people's language based soley on the assumption that that is what black people want. You then proceeed to act all haughty because someone dared to disagree with your assessment.

Or just say it since it's part of the song and not like you're using it in a derogatory way.

Or don't say say it if you're not black, how hard is that too understand.

Tru, better just say a word that many black people consider to be hurtful when said by a white person. I mean yeah you risk making somebody highly uncomfortable but these are the sacrifices you make to sound "mad dope" in your sedan.

And words like "fuck" and "faggot" are offensive to people too, but they're all over the place in rap. Should I censor myself for every single word that could offend someone when I sing along with a song?

I'm not even the one who wrote the lyrics. I'm literally just singing along with words that were written by Dr. Dre. And shit, the only reason I get so conflicted is because I hate the N word. When I'm alone in my car, there's no one else around to get offended. But I still am conflicted when I say it because of how much I personally don't like that word, but I also hate censorship - thus the conflict.

You can say whatever you want. I just think it's a bad habit to get into personally. In my experience, the type of people who say it are the type of people who will turn down a Kanye song when a middle-aged suburban black woman is walking by (that was a great first date, especially when I asked why he did that and he giggled and said "no reason" like some random black woman gives a shit about two white kids listening to rap).

I just find it funny when people are like "but what if it's in the song? I gotta say it now, right, or the song is ruined!" Like they're getting paid to do the most accurate rendition of a song. I'm not a Dr Dre cover band.

I don't even know why I'm talking about this outside of CB, this is gonna probs get downvoted (not by you but by people who like to think up fantasy scenarios wherein they can say the n word).

I'm not really getting into a habit though. I don't ever use that word outside of song lyrics, and I never will. As far as rapping in front of other people, I can't really think of a situation where I would be doing that in front of anyone other than maybe a couple of my close friends. I'm not just randomly going to belt into full song in the middle of the mall or some shit like that. That would just annoy people even if I was singing the most family-friendly song ever.

As far as turning down music in your car when someone is nearby, I definitely do that all the time. It's just kind of a courtesy thing. Whether the music contains profanity or not, I just assume people probably get annoyed if I'm blasting my music too loud.

I guess he thought the black woman was more likely to be offended, but it's only a guess.

Yeah and that's what was weird. Not all black people even know who Kanye is, so why make that oddly racial assumption.

Edit: Downvotes? Really, unidan's alts?

It kind of does if you're not saying she's a gold digger, but you can't exactly say who she's not hanging with.
