I love how he downvoted the guy who literally just said "I live in Israel."

That's some shit. Can't have the Jews amassing too many internet points.

I also thought that was odd.

Though many users downvote anyone with a blue [S] next to their name, for some reason.

At least he didn't use the phrase "Nazionist," which has been getting a disturbing amount of traction lately.

Not entirely, for two reasons.

The Nazis actually had support from some Zionist groups in the early days (they both wanted the Jews out of Europe).

Another thing is, etymologically, Nazi is short for "Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" (National is pronounced Nazi-o-nal in German), which translates to National-Socialist German Worker's Party. So you could have Nationalist Zionists.

One Zionist group even tried to collaborate with the Nazis, in exchange for help against Palestine, if I recall. That disappeared when the whole Holocaust thing was getting obvious.

Hah, that's actually pretty catchy. Going to add that one to my vocabulary.

I feel like the meaning of that phrase is only clear when you spell it out. Otherwise, it sounds like "Not Zionist."

>Until I see continuous trains of people headed for death camps I'm gonna have to say no on that.

Yeah they're already inside the death camp; it's called Gaza.

EDIT: downvote me all you want, but the UN says Gaza will be unlivable by 2020.

> The report says that the population of the Gaza Strip will increase from 1.6 million people today to 2.1 million people in 2020

I'm not sure that that's how a death camp is supposed to operate.

  • [-]
  • PhysicsIsMyMistress

Except that the larger the population gets, the more scare the resources will be and people will die off quicker later on.

Come on, man.

No, I understand that there would be a lot of problems (like basically everywhere where such a huge population growth is happening), but it's obvious that there's no genocide going on. Like, that's not how you genocide. Calling Gaza a "death camp" is beyond idiotic.

Unless, that is, you suspect the Jews of intentionally letting the Gaza population to grow so that they could kill more of them later.

  • [-]
  • PhysicsIsMyMistress

I don't suspect "The Jews" of doing anything.

  • moor-GAYZ

  • 00:47:53, 27 July

Well then you shouldn't call stuff "death camps" because death camps have operators, with a purpose, and the implication of who they are is obvious here.

Unless, that is, you are one of the few people who realise that Egypt is the real mastermind behind the Gaza Genocide. Like, they have a huge-ass steel and concrete wall all along the border etc.

Do Jews really need their homeland there? How can it be worthwhile for them to live there at this cost? What's the point of all this, just fucking live somewhere else. I can't imagine that they wouldn't prefer not to be surrounded by bitterly angry Arabs and terrorists all the time.

Well they are pretty settled there by now so it's too late to move them now without turning to ethnic cleansing. There were ideas of a different location in the past (before Israel existed) but all of them led nowhere.

  • [-]
  • East_Threadly

I suppose its a bit late for them to simply leave the area. The whole thing is so senseless, I wish they could or would.

Yeah, the fact is both groups are there and now they are going to have to make the best of it. Also the whole thing is senseless I agree, neither side is willing to draw a line and move on from the past.

Wouldn't settling them anywhere else have brought up the same trouble with the local people in that location? Besides that, Jerusalem is where it is.

From their perspective, think of all the work they've put into building a country there. And whatever you wanna say about its treatment of Palestinians, Israel is a fucking beautiful country. They've made viable farms in the desert. They've built cities from scratch. They've created one of the safest societies in the world, in terms of crime rate and life expectancy. Israelis don't want to give up their homes any more than Palestinians do.

That's the big problem in this conflict. Both sides see it as their home, and both sides have reasonable arguments as to why they do. When people talk about the conflict, a lot of discussion goes into whether Israel had a right to the land in '48. I think that's a waste of breath. The answer to the question has no bearing on the question of how to end the conflict. You'll never convince either side that it's not their land.

Long-term, there's basically only three possible outcomes. They might take decades to happen, but eventually one of them will.

  • Full Palestinian control of the land, which would require genocide against the Jews
  • Full Israeli control of the land, which would require genocide against the Arabs
  • A solution where both sides have substantial power, either over independently-ruled land (a two-state solution), or over the political situation in the country (a binational one-state solution)

It's a zero-sum game to look backward in this conflict. At this point, it doesn't matter who was in the moral right or wrong in '48 or '67 or '73 or the intifadas or now. What matters is, what's the solution that leads to the least human suffering? And "the Jews should live somewhere else," whether or not it's the "fair" answer, is certainly not the answer that will lead to the least suffering.

^(N.B.: I commented in the linked thread, but that was before it was linked here.)

You want to resettle a complex, technologically sophisticated society of 8 million people because of the fallout from dissolution of two empires (British and Ottoman) in the last century? There is no way you would logistically be able to do this.

I can just imagine the suffering elders and masses of millenia ago being presented by the land by some mythical entity that beamed down messages to people's brains (tinfoil hats were not in abundance in those times), and they were handed the Deed to the land, drawn up in legalese that would take millenia more to parse.

Then I realized that said mythical being was not officially recognized by any global association (like the UN) to have the power to present land Deeds and trade rights to the land, nor declare War - for it was not a recognized sovereignty ... not then and not now (unless I missed a charter filing). So sad.
