Well, 4chan is post-homophobic, that's why they can say "OP IS A F*****"and it isn't homophobic because we're all f*****s in the eyes of anon and if everyone is a f***** can anyone be a f*****?
Shits deep man
...you know you can just type "faggot", right? Putting the stars in place of letters has never worked effectively to censor anything except profanity in Final Fantasy VII, and even then it only worked because they'd put a random number of symbols up to censor the profanity and no actual cuss words would fit with the number of symbols.
Edit: HAHA NEVERMIND EVERYBODY GUESS IM JUST SOME BIG OL STUPID BIGOT FUCKWAD FOR THINKING FAGGOT IS A SHIT WORD TO CALL SOMEONE BUT IS ALSO PRETTY SHIT TO PRETEND YOURE PROTECTING SOMEONE BY DRESSING THE WORD UP IN A SUNDAY SUIT TO PRESENT IT TO YOUR FRIENDS
First off, sensitivity (and yes I've heard the Reddit anti-self-censorship screed a fucking billion times already I know it's not 100% "rational") I guess.
More pragmatically, last time I submitted a sarcastic post like that with the word in it that many times, IIRC the mods removed it. So I guess there's a pragmatic element to it as well
I'm not quite sure what sensitivity has to do with it. Anyone who would be offended by the word "faggot" clearly knows that's the word you're trying to coverup. Also, you're not saying "faggot" TO anyone with your comment, so I'm not sure who could possibly get offended over you saying a word in an example that targets nobody whatsoever.
I mean, it's kinda the same as typing b**** or a****** because you're worried someone could get offended by the usage of bitch or asshole even when you're just saying the words in a story about what your grandpa calls the cat.
inb4 "faggot is worse than bitch" nobody cares and that's not the topic of discussion
Censoring it shows that the person using it is conscious it can be offensive. That in itself "defangs" the word so to speak.
I don't see how it "defangs" it. If anything, it draws more attention to the word itself and gives it more power. If someone is conscious of it being offensive and worried about sensitivity, they wouldn't mention the word to begin with. And just because someone doesn't "censor" it through asterisks or "the f-word" doesn't mean they're not aware of the word being used for hate and to spark enmity. In this case, the person using "faggot" wasn't directing it at anybody whatsoever, and those that would direct the word towards people aren't going to censor it. Hiding it behind asterisks as a form of "sensitivity" just tells those that want to use it for hate that you're an easy target. So either don't bring it up, or say the whole fucking word so those assholes don't have that easy trigger to pull.
And no, I've never watched anything Louis CK except some appearance he had on SNL, and no, I'm not some South Park idiot who thinks you should call people faggots left and right to desensitize people to the word or change it's meaning. I just think that, if you're going to bring up the word "faggot" in any conversation, fucking recognize that you're using the word instead of hiding it behind some bullshit to pretend you're not offending anyone. If someone is going to be offended by "faggot", they're already offended by you placing it in a sentence, regardless of how you try and hide it.
Fuck it. I'm done explaining it over and over. Let the downvotes commence, everyone else is right, I'm wrong, happy birthday
Personally I appreciate it when people "defang it", though I don't expect it. I don't understand why you're getting so defensive over the f-word tho
You don't speak for them but you think you do.
That's the entire crux of your problem here.

some people just don't feel comfortable typing it out
Then why even bring it up? Why even include the F preceding the stars?
Edit: the fuck, SRD? The fuck did I say to deserve this many downvotes?
Edit 2: Editorial Boogaloo: every downvote means you're the real racist
Edit 3: Snake Editor: stupid long horses
because he's quoting 4chan and so you also have the slightest idea he's talking about, context or not
Regardless of this argument, this comment made absolutely no sense. Grammatically or otherwise.
mine? i apologize. i was in a hurry typing it cus of work. my b
Sometimes it's relevant to quote or reference someone else using a slur but the person quoting/referencing can find the slur itself distasteful and want to avoid seeing/typing it. It's fine if you don't, but it's not a hard concept to grasp.
You're right, I'm an idiot who can't understand simple things. I'm a piece of shit dumbass. I'll just excuse myself from conversing ever again because I lack the intelligence to be on everyone else's level here. Girl bye

linking a louis ck talking about a homophobic slur to justify its use
this is a square on the reddit bingo, right?
Yep, I'm still waiting for the George Carlin video.
Which is so funny because Louis CK also says this about women in his standup. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW REDDIT?!
I think he went on to say that he was wrong about that as well.
> to justify its use
No, they are saying that the slur with asterisks is just as bad as the slur without asterisks, so if you don't want to use the slur, don't use it at all, asterisks or otherwise. That's not trying to justify its use.
But the conversation is about the slur.
Not using thw slur in a conversation about it is kind if hard
Well I figured, why go to another subreddit for drama when we can have our own, 100% organic coop-grown brand right here.
Taking a karma hit for the team, what a selfless thinker
Seems a little incestuous.
It's just comment wrestling, relax.
That initial comment was fine, but this one here is getting you banned.
...someone's getting banned for linking to a Louis CK video? I mean, I don't even like his standup, but that seems pretty fucking harsh.
I think it's because they called someone a slur.
Bingo. No personal attacked allowed in SRD.
holy shit, still?

Yes. You are. Go home. You're not as edgy as you think you are.
