Is it too dangerous for a man to help a child in distress? One user in /r/mensrights doesn't think so. (np.reddit.com)

One of the top posts in there.

>No. I would not help a child. If it's a female child i'm taking a different route to work that day just so she doesn't somehow remember my face.

I am 100% certain this guy is weird as fuck irl

Or capable of hyperbole and self-referential humour.

Nah, clearly serious and not a normal human being.

Hmm judging by the other replies in there I'm going to guess it's not a joke.

I believe he (vastly) overestimates the risk of an encounter with a child, but I don't think he means what you quoted literally.

It's an exaggeration to convey his view, surely. Maybe his base view is dumb, but I doubt he's being literal there.

The things he said are the actual party line for MRAs. It's completely reasonable to think he meant what he said because shit like that is said all the time by those guys

Now you're just being disingenuous.

Nobody actually behaves as was quoted. You do yourself and your 'side' a disservice by pretending they do.

Or maybe you're 100% serious. Oh god the irony.

Yes it absolutely ironic that those dudes think they'll be instantly convicted of child molestation if they find themselves in the same room as a kid they aren't related to. ironic is definitely the right word for what this is

>those dudes think they'll be instantly convicted of child molestation if they find themselves in the same room as a kid they aren't related to.

But they don't actually think that. It's hyperbole. Say it after me: hy·per·bo·le.

How do you function without this basic understanding of human conversation? Are you a real person?

And what part of that do you think is ironic? What?

I was mocking your incorrect use of a word

I used it perfectly correctly.

I responded to someone who couldn't tell if what someone else was saying was to be taken seriously and literally.

Only to get roped into a discussion with you where I can't tell if your patently ridiculous opinions are to be taken seriously and literally.

See: irony.
