I didn't know A Voice for Men Sweden was a reputable source for TIL. TIL.

Is it affiliated with the American/Canadian(whichever it is) one? That absolute rag of a blog completely destroyed any possibility of /r/mensrights being a positive space.

Yes it is

Also, OP (who posted the link here, /u/La_Diabla) is ~~a mod~~ the *founder* of /r/gendercritical, a TERF subreddit.

Apparently the founder of /r/GenderCritical.

Edit: Also is it OK to link to your own posts? You'd think that would fall under "Only post links if you are not the source of drama"

Ah, now I see why the OP misgendered the person in the title--she doesn't believe transgender people exist! I now feel very dirty having participated in this thread so extensively.

But you added "man." That wasn't in the original post.

I don't know what the heck a TERF is, but from the context clues I'm gathering it's a projectile of some sort that used to be NERF?

  1. It's definitely relevant to the drama. The discussion and the specific linked post are about trans* acceptance.

  2. If this is "incitement to brigade", then so is every other post in this subreddit.

  3. "TERF" stands for "trans-exclusionary radical feminist". The blog that you linked doesn't really explain why "TERF" is a slur. It just says that it is in the title. Don't try to equate people calling you out on your bullshit with you discrediting trans* people. Seriously, get over yourself.

Geez man, quit hating on the hate group. Cant you see they are just honest, hard working people who are just trying to make sure trans people can never feel comfortable?

You first. Then go get over whatever it is that makes you think TERF is a slur. "Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists" are called TERFs because it's a handy acronym for exactly what the movement represents:

Being a bunch of exclusionary bigots who are WAY too concerned with the arrangement of the genitals of others.

It's creepy and weird and non-bigots don't much like that kind of thing, which explains the dislike... but TERF is not a slur. You're not oppressed for thinking the way other bigots think. You're just a bigot who's bigoted ideas are rejected by decent people.

It's used by people who describe your philosophy exactly as you describe it.

That this causes decent people to turn from your movement and recognize your bigotry is not everyone elses problem. The problem is with you.

Get over it.

So that's what mansplaining feels like. Hey, /u/La_Diabla, thanks for giving me an opportunity to experience something I never thought I would, seeing as I'm a woman and all.

The submission was removed from TIL a couple days ago for violating several rules.

It's an online activism group. And, like many special interest groups online, it has a very clear slant. If you read their site you'll see it's not exactly an academic or journalism source.

Well, you can read about Warren Farrel on wikipedia. He claims that he left NOW when the organization came out against joint child custody agreements. I really don't understand how that translated into being completely against women though. And I don't know why the fact that most feminists today would be in favor of joint custody agreements hasn't changed his stance at all.

I have trouble believing that every one of them were actually feminists though. I think a lot of it is just AVfM trying to make feminism look bad.

Edit: I'm not sure if Warren Farrell writes for AVfM at all. He's definitely praised by them a lot though.

Yes, those feminists were shitty. I'm not sure why that makes her think she should be equally as terrible, but take an opposing stance.

Their founder has some pretty sketchy quotes attributed to him:

Not exactly an "unbiased" website; but I let the man's words speak for themselves.

Using any blog with a clear bias makes no sense as a source of information on TIL. You might as well just say "TIL White people are losing the population race!" and link to Stormfront.

  • [-]

Sure it is. It's a great source for hate and made-up problems with irrational solutions; in fact, you could replace that website with /r/shittyadvice and no one would notice except us current subscribers. You want an article that compares manual laborers to slaves and women waiting for public transit to their masters? Right there on the front page.
