Hmm she said she was very grateful for everything, but that I had been sulking and ignoring her almost the entire time she was there.

I replied whether that included the time we had sex, the time I took her and my kid for ice cream, when I took her to the clinic in the opposite direction of my kid's kindergarten before dropping my kid off at kindergarten before going to work in a building a block away from the clinic, when I picked her up at the clinic during my work hours, went to the pharmacy for her and bought her prescription aswell as crutches, when I cooked for her a class A BBQ meal, when I catered to her every requirement, when I took her to the airport, again during working hours, and arranged for an airport employee to check her in ahead of everyone else so she could have a comfortable seat with no one adjacent while she lambasted me for being at the counter when check in hadn't started yet, or when I endured all her cheap shots at my personality.

After that she was in a corner and the conversation turned surreal, so I asked her to please stay out of my life and not to talk about me behind my back again

I find this common with excessively attractive girls. They expect a pedestal and believe the pleasure of their company is enough reward.

Although you yourself might be an excessively attractive female, and still with a moral compass, in which case call me, maybe?

Holy shit well done. Proud of you op. I too had a friend that I did a ton for over( 18 years.) More and more I felt like I was getting the short end of the stick. Last time I spoke to him I kicked him out of my house. Haven't spoken to him since. The problem with him is that in his mind he thinks he is the correct one in arguments. So until he decides to have a moment of clarity we are not talking anymore.

I'm sorry to hear about the argument and the loss of a friend (or non-friend for that matter). She seems rather shallow and to argue back with you when you've done so much is beyond rude.

I wanted to point out another side, one which may be unpopular, but I think overlooked. You may just have been boring. I mean, you point out so much that you've done, but none of that seemed to point to being fun. Don't get me wrong, you're obviously much better friend than she is to you. And you really went out of your way to make her comfortable, which she had little concern for. But perhaps she was just bored. You may have been so busy taking care of her that you weren't fun, maybe she felt too taken care of, who knows? But I think in any argument where emotions are involved, you can't get upset by how the other person feels without fully understanding their position.

Anyway, again, sorry for the argument with your friend and how shallow she treated you. It's a terrible way to end a friendship.

I don't know what surgery OP's ex friend went through but the last time my brother had surgery on his foot the last thing he wanted was for us to be fun around him. He just wanted us to leave him be and rest and recover. I doubt someone undergoing serious surgery can even muster the physical energy to be fun.

Clarification from a Norwegian:

Here it would be better to use "neither of us spoke English", which would imply it was in the specific conversation. With "speak English" it makes it seem like neither of you use the language at all, which is why acealeam was confused.

It's also therefore instead of therefor in this context. I just learned myself that therefor is acceptable (mostly used by lawyers), but its meaning is slightly different.

Amateur linguist here.

Voiceless dental fricative (th, θ) as in English thin, third <- Icelandic Þ is similar maybe?

Voiced dental fricative (dh, ð) as in English this, then

  • [-]
  • rjmana

  • 04:56:30, 5 July

Easy. "Þórðargleði"

  • [-]
  • Jvlivs
  • 4 Points
  • 06:50:35, 5 July

Thorthargleithi, but the two unique symbols (Þ and ð) are each a variation of an alveolar non-sibilant fricative. The 'Þ' (called a 'Thorn') is the sound you get in the word 'with', whereas the 'ð' (called an 'Eth') is the sound you get in the word 'that'. So one's a breathed 'th' sound, the other is voiced, therefore accounting for the variation.

The only modern languages that have both of these are Icelandic and Faroese, though it existed in medieval germanic languages like Old Norse, Gothic, and earlier forms of English.

That's a lot better than my friend's version. Friend picks his GF up after she gets her wisdom teeth taken out. Once they're back at his place he has to leave for work and tells her to get some rest. while at work she starts freaking out and believes he's trying to kidnap/kill her. she calls the cop and tells them he drugged her and is keeping her captive at his house. Police show up to his work and arrest him, he instantly loses his job. Once his GF is back to normal she says she is "so sorry" meanwhile he lost his job and couldn't get it back because his reputation was destroyed.

Also, it's fucking stupid you can get fired for being arrested without a conviction. At the very least, they shouldn't publish names until an indictment or a charge or something is made, unless you're a wanted violent offender on the loose with a warrant issued for your arrest.

Sorry to hear that your kind deeds were not appreciated. Some people will always complain and put others down no matter what. Good to see that you took the right path and let a negative and draining person out of your life. I've seen so many stories on Reddit where people keep people like her around for ages until they finally understand that they won't change unless they want to. So good on you and best of luck.

I'm sure the girl is an ungrateful shithead, but dude, listing lots of nice things you do doesn't automatically make you not boring. It's entirely possible for someone to be generous, hardworking, honourable, and still really dull to be around. It's rude to say this behind their back, but it's not an invalid opinion to have. Gandhi could also have been a crap conversationalist, you know.

Yeah I mean boring is subjective and I'll admit I can be a dullard. I'm not objecting to her characterization, but rather to her lack of gratefulness and bad attitude. If someone is nice to me I'll thank him/her and be nice in return even if they did show me their stamp collection

Dude this has an easy fix. Next girl, do the exact same thing, you're cool. But add this to your personality: Every now and then, like truly random times (wait one month, then a week, then two months then twice in a week...) when you are hanging out with her just jump out and fucking scream

ROAAARREBLAGBLAGGGGG

and scare the living crap out of her. Also do random stuff like walking in on her when she is showering, then leaving without saying a word, crazy shit like that. She will be constantly on her toes, never bored! Girls love that trust me

Maybe the dude was exhausted? I find it difficult to be my super duper sunny funny self when I am severely tired. I imagine having to take care of an actual child and an adult child who incessantly bitches at you, all the while maintaining a full working schedule, could be physically and psychologically draining. Plus what she did is just fucking classless.

Whether OP is boring or not is irrelevant. When someone goes out of their way to help you in your time of need, it's very rude to go behind their back and talk shit about him to her friends.

It doesn't matter if OP really is boring. The whole point is that she was being an ungrateful asshole after he took care of her.

When someone accepts your charity, it's not that much to ask for them to treat you with basic common courtesy and respect and to not go talking about him as soon as she's better.

In this case she should've kept that opinion to herself. It doesn't matter if it's valid or not. She was perfectly fine with OP when he was helping her out, but as soon as she didn't need him anymore she goes and talks shit about him behind his back.

It's incredibly selfish to let someone help you and then be a bitch to them after they have already helped you. From what I've read from OP in these comments, she seems very conceited. Like OP should be the one that's grateful she let him help her. It's not his job to entertain her. He isn't her little court jester. For all we know she could've been the dull one, and she just expected him to do things to entertain her.

He's the one doing something altruistic for her. It's messed up to act like that afterwards.
