Someone dares to mention calories in vs calories out in TrollX. Surprisingly not everybody wants to hear it. (np.reddit.com)

Yeah that woman definitely needed to work out to look like that. I will say the range of looking good for women is larger than for men so it's easier to get to, but the range of looking "acceptable" to date is probably larger for men than for women.

A larger range of looking good for women than men? I don't see how you could claim that. There's a very specific body type considered "hot" for women - approximately like the woman in the picture - but men definitely don't have to look like the dude in the photo to be considered hot. Also the idea that all every woman has to do to look like that woman is "not eat like a fucking hippo" is so absurd I don't even know how to approach it.

Put your average non overweight woman in a bikini and she'll probably look good. Put your average non overweight guy in swimsuit, he'll probably look average.

That's just not true. There's far more pressure for the average woman to lose weight to be considered hot in a bikini.

I didn't say hot, I said good. If you're not fat, not disfigured, and have breasts you'll probably look good in a bikini.

I also didn't mention anything about pressure, where I would say there is more for women. But that's more in the acceptable to date range I mentioned.

You may personally think that, but I do not think the culture at large promotes the idea that the average woman looks good in a bikini unless she's on the low-to-underfat range on the BMI scale, toned, and well-proportioned. There just isn't the same standard for men, who unless they're overweight are considered to look good.

To your edit: the amount of pressure tells you what is required in order to "look good." It's definitely narrower for women.

Men rarely if ever are told they look good. They are told they look ok.

Right - the average man is told he's okay, and the average woman is told she doesn't look good enough. Part of that is because men are not also told that their entire value as a person hinges on their looking good.

The average man is told he is not attractive unless he has a muscular physique and good hair (i.e is not balding). He is also told that women will not be attracted to him unless he has money.

Women have more pressure on them to be good looking - but they have absolutely no pressure to make money. You almost never hear the word "loser" applied to a woman.

>Women have more pressure on them to be good looking

That's all we're talking about here.

Edit: nvm. I don't think it's men saying that.

You keep editing your posts after I respond, but I don't know where you're getting that I'm claiming "it's men saying that." Not every discussion of the existence of different standards for different genders is a blame game.

What's interesting is that I've noticed that men do tend to think of attractiveness solely in terms of dating, because that's the arena they've been told it matters in. Women don't think of it those terms because their attractiveness is supposed to be relevant in every arena. That confusion may be why you believe that when I talk about stringent standards of beauty for women, I'm talking solely about "what men are saying" or would date or whatever.

I don't know what that means, but I just think it's crazy to say that there is the same amount of pressure for men to look good as women, or that "looking good" isn't a more narrow normative definition for women.

That's probably because you're a straight guy rather than, you know, looking at it objectively. Bikini's also show a hell lot more skin and flatter certain body parts more than your average swim trunks, which have went from thigh length to knee/ankle length in the past 50-some years.

No I can still recognize what's good looking and what isn't. Also do you really want to see a guy's upper thigh, because if so I take back my first statement.

I can assure you that people who are attracted to men find male legs quite attractive.

Well, yeah, man thighs are pretty hot. People usually have sex with men because they find them attractive, last I checked.

Wow, i've been called many things but that's a first. To be honest i'm guessing you're one of those people that cry 'pedo' whenever anyone dares say that not all pedo's should be burnt at the stake.
