OP gets downvoted on every comment for essentially posting "DAE remember Halo 2?" in r/gaming, seems surprised not everyone played the game and loved it. (np.reddit.com)

So um... FPS games are pretty much all the same to me (because I suck at them)... is there something specific about Halo 2 I should know? Like, is it somehow different from the rest of the series?
I am open to correction as my memory is foggy but here's my take...
Prior to Halo the majority of FPS games that were played (i.e. popular) were PC based. Doom, Quake, Unreal, Blood, etc were the main FPS games/engines.
Then Microsoft releases the xBox and Halo. Which is pretty much the first mainstream non-PC FPS. The xBox had a target demo that included PC gamers but also included non-PC gamers. And then the console wars start to heat up and the division in gamers becomes more defined as console users have more choices. (keep in mind prior to the 1st Gen xBox most console graphics/games were far behind the PC in terms of performance, graphics advancements, upgrades.
This leads to a group (almost a generation) of gamers who are either predominately PC or Console (obviously many play both). You can tell which camp someone comes from simply by their game preference. Halo fans are typically console-centric users. And so their knowledge is specific to console changes. As such sequels to popular games are popular by extension (within that group).
>Which is pretty much the first mainstream non-PC FPS.
Goldeneye holds that crown.
Not gonna get into a religious argument but that's a laughable statement at best. Though you're entirely welcome to believe it. :)
No, explain it to me.
Goleneye came before Halo, was very popular and sold millions. That fills your criteria.
I didn't define any criteria, you did. Goldeneye was a reasonably popular game in some parts of the world, it is no where near as popular as Halo wordlwide. There are more than just Americans who play the vidya.
Again I don't wish to get into a religious debate about video games.
You did.
>Which is pretty much the first mainstream non-PC FPS.
Goldeneye came first and sold quite a few more too. 8 million copies vs 5 million, and that was when gaming was quite a bit smaller. You don't have a leg to stand on.

That isn't a criteria. It's a statement (and you bolded the wrong part, should have bolded "mainstream"). You do understand the difference?
Additionally Goldeneye wasn't the first console FPS. Goldeneye was never released on other platforms which makes it irrelevant to this discussion.
Again you're welcome to believe that Goldeneye was the first console FPS and that it was the greatest. It is irrelevant to this discussion.
I know.
You said first MAINSTREAM console FPS. That is clearly Goldeneye.
I never talked about quality. Even look at the thing I linked.
>Ste Curran's review for Edge[87] praised the game as "the most important launch game for any console, ever" and commented, "GoldenEye was the standard for multiplayer console combat. It has been surpassed.
Emphasis mine.
You keep changing your statement and are ignoring facts. In all seriousness, is there something mentally wrong with you?
Rofl!

Not really. People who like it just seem to really like it.
Because of the innovating multiplayer.
Also that shitty ending.
