Mods, stop deleting these posts! Are you fucking kidding me.

Edit: now that this thread is sticking around, get something with real info to the top.

No shit are you kidding me mods? Use some fucking judgment. The original post had 5000+ upvotes and was the main thread on the front page. It was propagating USEFUL information, such as bomb threats @ JFK Library.

Use your damn heads please.

edit: From a reply below: The police just confirmed (on the scanner) that their is an explosive device at the JFK Library.

edit2: from another reply below, this post from the old (original) submission has a lot of useful information and links

edit3: 2 more explosive devices found at the marathon, being dismantled. No official confirmations I've seen re: JFK library.

edit4: 2 confirmed dead so far, 22 injured.

final edit: see this post and this post for better real time updates

I saw it on the news and went on reddit find nothing mentioning the explosions. Weird.

I came to Reddit, found more useful information on the original post and began interacting with the reporting.

HOWEVER, the mods felt the need to remove it after thousands of comments and upvotes.

I guess telegraph.co.uk has a contract guaranteed they're the "CHOSEN" news source and COUGH COUGH ad revenue / traffic. Bullshit.

I usually have no problems with mods and deleting shit (normal basis) But if you fags are deleting news in realtime, then fuck every single one of you useless twats - I have family in Boston.

Stop fucking going on a power move, and go approve some Miley Cirey AMAs you assholes.

They deleted the Deadspin link and all other links, ensuring this was the most popular. And to be honest, it's shit reporting. Why choose a link from a foreign source when there were better, US, LOCAL sources right on the scene? The reporter in this case is in NY for fuck's sake.

Until they come forward with an explanation, I'll consider myself right.

Just because it happened in the US doesn't mean it's not World News. This sub is littered with things that happened just in india, should they be delegated to /r/india? This sub is about non political US news.

  • 20:05:36, 15 April

That's a great point!

I have just been arguing "who cares if it technically doesn't follow the rules, this is incredibly important and removing it does nothing besides preventing as many people as possible from knowing what is going on as quickly as possible" but it really is non US specific.

  • [-]
  • arksien
  • 81 Points
  • 20:08:58, 15 April

And who cares if it wasn't? Since when is the US not a part of the world? This sub is supposed to be for news from around the world that is so important that it would be news worthy of hearing even if it's not your native country. I would say a potential bombing at a race as important as the Boston Marathon would constitute this, even if it turns out to be an accident.

Believe it or not there are people on reddit not from the US. To arbitrarily assign one country as "off limits" is an absurd combination of egocentricity and immaturity on the part of the mods.

They just confirmed a bomb less than 2 minutes ago on the live scanner. It's at the JFK Library.

If the mods hadn't deleted the original thread, we would all know about this.

Someone was trying to relay that a third bomb was found, but that comment was just being upvoted when the mods censored the thread.

Way to prioritize the technicality of the rules over keeping people safe.

Fuck these mods.

Because it's US-related, while the sidebar says it's for everything that doesn't happen in the US. That's fair but where exactly can we discuss this? It's not legitimate /r/politics material, /r/news works but small and not a default.

Agreed. As a non-US resident who doesn't frequent /r/news that much, I think this story NEEDS to be in /r/worldnews. A bomb attack in a major US city at a major event which has left several dozen dead and injured is, in my mind, World news.

No, he simply believes that the rules are worth more than the discussion. Also, he's probably trying to karma whore his own submissions - speculation only, you understand. Bottom line - if he doesn't feel the post follows the narrative for the subreddit he deletes it.

Yep, but /r/news has only 2k subscribers, and /r/worldnews has over 3 million. With a story as big as this, I think it belongs in a main subreddit for maximum exposure, and /r/politics is obviously not appropriate. That leaves worldnews and for once, lets forget the rules.

This story is bigger than just US-internal news.

This is a sub with millions of readers, these posts make it to the front page rather quickly, and this information could possibly save lives (like the information about the bomb found at the JFK library.)

Reddit Admins need to step in and fix the modding problems this subreddit is having if these mods think being fucking anal about their rules supersedes the public service these threads serve.

Send them an angry message; I just did.

Will they respond? Probably not. But ripping them a new one over message will get the point across of how vital these update threads are.

Not many sites are like reddit. They can't handle large influxes of traffic like reddit can.

Also, more importantly, people in the area won't have access to anything. Having a smartphone with a reddit app will allow them to read the comments that contain updates, potentially helping/making them safer. The fact the mods delete that is fucking pathetic. They potentially made a terrible situation far worse for someone.

Fuck you, mods.
