OP in /r/relationships skips his girlfriend's mother's funeral because it's finals week, is confused as to why she isn't being understanding. Despite the criticism of fellow redditors, he is having difficulty seeing the error in his ways. (np.reddit.com)

Nice find but the title is biased as it says the guy is in the wrong. Even if majority think he is, this sub has rules against taking sides in the titles.

Was there really an implied bias? I tried to be neutral. I never said he was wrong, and by "the error in his ways" I was referring to the reaction of other commenters in the thread that were mass downvoting him.

yeah, I feel like practically every thread has an implied bias in the title. part of the fun of this sub is having a collection of posts that most people would think are crazy/dumb. 'look at this wacky post', that's a bias.

I'm with you friend, I can't really figure out how terribly biased the title is. Part of titling style here is bringing the perspective of the sub, what's happening in the thread. He is definitely confused, and they definitely think has erred. You're just transmitting the positions of the involved parties near as I can tell. I feel like a biased title would be "Stupid, callous asshole misses his girlfriend's mother's funeral; other commentors rightly call him out."

"He is having difficulty seeing the error of his ways" is more than implying he's the bad one here.

Which is silly because myself and others in the thread clearly agree him.

He skipped his girlfriend's mom's funeral. This isn't Wikipedia; I think pretty much everyone who's not autistic or a TRPer can agree that he was in the wrong.

It's the new "retarded" and I also dislike it.

Its annoying as someone with aspergers and being on the spectrum to be compared to someone from the redpill.

That sucks. Can we just use Redpiller (or TweRP, that's my favorite) as the go to insult?

Yeah sure. Honestly I can't think of a greater insult than being compared to being associated the red pill

It's from 4chan and when said there, it's kinda like a term of endearment, like locker room insults.

I think going to the final was the correct course of action. It is the other things he said to her (e.g. bus ticket cost) that caused controversy.

Yes, if he couldn't reschedule the exam. Most professors are pretty understanding of that sort of thing and would have been accommodating. Looks like he didn't even try to do that.

Well, finals week is probably the most important juncture in a persons life. Even that week lost would likely put a dent in his grade, no?

I don't know, I never went to uni.

In my case, skipping a final means you fail the class automatically, though at the same time, he might have been able to get a special accommodation from the professor of his class.

That being said, he seems to have been very much upset about it, and his girlfriend is obviously emotionally distraught because of her mother passing. Events like these change people, and always cause strain on relationships. I was in a similar position when my mother went crazy some years ago.

This is one of those situations where nobody is wrong, but nobody is right, because there are lots of important things to do, and something needs to be sacrificed.

Personally, I'd go to the final.

Yeah, I think I would've attended the final too. Both the funeral and the test are nearly once-in-a-lifetime kinds of events but if you miss the final, you could derail your academic career severely.

I can't fault OPs gf, though. I haven't lost a parent yet but I can sympathize with her loss.

Op could've probably dealt with everything with more finesse BUT this is the kind of shit one is not prepared for. He seemed to have tried his best.

Finals are important but usually professors are willing to work with you if you have a family emergency.

This is true but not a guarantee. Plus, in these situations one is hardy thinking too clearly.

Once you start deciding who is right or wrong on morals in the titles to linked comments is when you can't really defend against accusations of being a vote brigade, since it primes everyone on who they should up or downvote. It also invites people to use SRD for that purpose and to misrepresent the linked comments. We are here to observe, not pass direct judgement.

Taking sides? There is only 1 side in this. The guy is an ass.

Yes it is. It's like alleging bias in a documentary about 9/11 that doesn't provide an account from truthers. Some ideas are so retarded that they don't deserve their 5 minutes.
