/Technology mod, /u/Creq, martyrs himself in /r/undelete by stating "A group of "people" are censoring /r/technology entirely by downvoting everything in the new queue. The site admins have yet to respond." (np.reddit.com)

Ohhhh Boy!
If this is true then The Techno-pocalypse just went full Techno-prolapse!
It's true, many people saw it before he edited it twice then removed it.

This drama just never ends, the popcorn just goes on and on my friends ...
We can keep repleneshing our popcorn supply. We can rebuild it.
We have the /r/technology.
Hard to enjoy the popcorn when all the srd threads are filled with the same people that are crying over in /r/technology.
I just treat it as a double feature. I'm not going to be able to have a conversation free of r/technology culture but I am going to have two different threads (sometimes with different outcomes) to laugh at, one of which I can piss in the popcorn for.
That's cause Snitchbot keeps telling them whenever we've linked, so they come here expecting praise and admiration.
We should send you to China so they can help flush the Yellow River and maybe even make it to the ocean
I agree. I am not here to argue about the state of a default sub. I'm here to read the name-calling and other childish behavior in these arguments, without seeing those same redditors show up here.
This is not cool. Even if we do agree. It's like reverse popcorn pissing.
SRD never used to be populated by the horrible boring cunts who actually care about this nonsense.
That /r/new queue was looking like a downvote wasteland when I looked at it about 14 hours ago, but those posts appear to be gone. Did they all get nuked?
No, they just have so many downvotes that reddit hides them from you.
Still nuked. Only one submission on their front page that isn't 16 hours old, and it is already negative. What's funnier, is /u/creq submitted a bunch of stuff today (check out his history) to /r/technology, and all of that is downvoted to the double digits.
I just finished watching Extreme Rules and now it's like a post-show here watching /u/creq and this anti-mod brigade fight in a handicap match with no stipulations for winning.
> What's funnier, is /u/creq submitted a bunch of stuff today (check out his history) to /r/technology , and all of that is downvoted to the double digits.
it wasn't only his posts that are getting downvoted someone has a large group of bots to downvote EVERY post, withen 20 minutes anything that gets posted has over 25 downvotes by an hour they have over 75 downvotes most redditors cant see a post below 10 downvotes unless you change your preferences these are definitely bots not people. whoever is controlling these bots seems to be affiliated with /r/tech most of the "dead" posts with 80+ downvotes have comments saying come over to /r/tech post there and unsub /r/technology. It doesn't take rocket appliances to connect the dots.

What's a rocket appliance? Is that what doge coin uses to get to the moon?

This is it now, with the "don't hide links" thing enabled.
Everything's getting downvoted to double-digits within minutes of posting.

This is the greatest dramawave yet in my mind because I don't want to take sides. /r/atheism vs. /u/jij was hilarious, but it was too easy side with jij. Same with /r/conspiracy vs. /u/solidwhetstone, it was just a bunch of people overreacting, but /r/conspiracy had to assume he was "working with the enemy", and it's pretty hard to side with them there. Then /r/xkcd vs. /u/Flytape was great, but I was pretty invested in it as a (now former) subscriber of /r/xkcd.
Now I'm unsubscribed from /r/technology, so I don't care what happens to the sub. Is the community being incredibly childish by "ruining" the subreddit? Yep. Is /u/creq being even more childish in his frustration towards this? Hell yeah! This has been great popcorn, and I'm sad the drama will have to end at some point.
The /r/technology Is so ironic When you remember that the /r/atheism Drama Was One year ago. Imagine if jij did a automod to remove all one click memes somehow and no one noticed for a few months. Skeen comes back and demods automod and suddenly realize that removing one click memes weren't that bad and started to witch hunt Skeen instead. That's The /r/technology drama.
Anu, Max And Q have The same moderation philosophy as skeen.
Actually, they never really questioned the mod-philosophy that was at work before all the fur started to fly. We (Agentlame, TheSkyNet, myself, Skuld, DrJulianBashir) wanted to added moderators to the team. They (Q, Anu and Max) refused to even have a discussion about new moderators. We figured five mods want to add moderators, and they won't even offer an opinion..... so TheSkyNet and AgentLame started to add moderators who applied for the job.
Doctor_McKay was one of the guys we added.
Only then, after TheSkyNet and Agentlame were adding new mods, does Anutensil start removing moderators. I was forced into a position where I had to act. So, I removed Anutensil. Then things were stable for a day or so...... and then Max logs on and started to rip out all the new mods a second time, add toadies from /r/Worldnews who were never discussed in the backroom..... at which point I resigned.
There are still 39 or 40 mod applications that were solicited that have not been looked at by the current mods of /r/Technology. I still have copies of them. These are people who wrote a good 5-10 paragraphs about themselves and how they would approach moderating. There are at least 25 good mod-candidates for any subreddit in with those applications.
The fact that they don't want to even look through the applications shows that the current mods of /r/Technology just want to cut their nose off to spite their face.
Oh well.
Well, it's good for srd at least.
Then by osmosis, this must be good news for Bitcoin.
You know, you'd think that by now, we'd have run that joke into the ground, but it's still funny.
It's so simple and if there is, at least, a hint of tie-in, it works. I've seen a few get downvoted below threshold for being out of place.
Hey now lets be honest, it's still funny even if there's zero tie in.
The further it is from bitcoin, the funnier it gets to post that.
Which isn't to say it is unfunny in /r/bitcoin!
Everything is unfunny in /r/Bitcoin. It's just hilarious when it's copied and pasted into /r/SubredditDrama.

d-d-did I make your list of potential mods?
edit: op pls
Aren't you glad they didn't follow through?
Well, those mods are actually pretty good and if NSApril didn't happen he would be a pretty good comapny of mods. I don't know, something we'll never know.
I was letting Agentlame, TheSkyNet and Skuld sort through the applications. I cut and pasted them into the backroom.
I decided to not be involved in the application-approval process because of the stuff that went down previously between Q and myself at /r/Worldnews. So, I figured it was best for me to not be directly involved in the process. I decided to trust the judgement of Skuld and the other guys.
So, I am sorry, but specifically with regard to your application, I am not sure what they thought of it.
oh. ok.
^;_;
Well, Look on the bright side.
If they'd modded you, you'd be hip-deep in this septic dramawave of the Techno-Prolapse with no way out!
But that is the bright side.
I think you are pretty good /u/Herecomethedrums! I think I remember reading one of your applications somewhere and I thought it was pretty good.

It's pretty funny that you are now the hero in this whole situation when you were considered Hitler during the /r/politics and /r/bestof dramawave.
For those who missed it: http://imgur.com/a/fyc0Q
I was never the person who banned anyone from /r/politics then. Not that I didn't support it, but it was another mod that did the various bans there. I removed the thread from /r/Bestof then, and would again.
Long and the short of it, I took the witch hunt rather than let the mob go after my friends.
I honestly cannot remember the whole thing outside of you being Reddit's most hated user at the time. This is The Dark Knight level shit; you were the hero that Reddit deserved, but not the one it needed.
Batman went into hiding for this shit!

He has a major beef with sanity. He thinks the Admins are working for the NSA or something. He keep mentioning one of the small companies that Kn0thing runs as if he was actively brain washing people.
And if there is anyone in need of a good brain washing......
Oh, that Jetpack bullshit? He never shuts up about that. I swear to Sheamus that guy is like an unfunny version of Dale Gribble.

It's even worse, they favor their own ~~spam~~ content. They're so clearly paid shills for certain media organizations.
Nah, I think they are just karma obsessed. And it was easy, automod regular users from posting certain popular keywords and then post it yourself.
Just redirect to /r/tsunderesharks already!

Creq gets called out asking for upvotes in a now deleted comment

>>If you would like to help stop all of this censorship then you can head over to /r/technology and upvote new posts you like.

Edit: Creq's post has been removed.

http://np.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/24qkwe/letsgetbullshittothefrontpage/
Well that isn't really a vote brigade. Many subreddits encourage people to go to new and upvote what they like.
Well, he is calling for them to upvote... I dunno. Given the situation, I doubt the admins will ban hammer him just for that post.
Yeah, that would be pretty stupid. Unless the admins are looking for an excuse to ban him.
Isn't that how reddit works? Up vote stuff you like. I'm confused as to the perceived problem here
Yes. it is. I would not have had an issue nor highlighted it in my initial post if he had not linked it elsewhere. As it stands, it appears you are correct, but I know differently. Comments and post were deleted. This is why I beg /u/cupcake1713 to come to our rescue.

That's not vote brigading, that's encouraging user participating in the site. See where he specifically tells users to upvote "posts [they] like"?
And now he claims it's photoshopped lmfao, dudes a joke.
Hahahahaha
He's full of shit. Proof
http://imgur.com/m1uj8Bh
Photoshopping is not my thing. I assume that the black picture indicates photoshopping, but how?
It shows differences in image quality, I think
It indicates it was not a photoshop You would be able to see the outlines of the copy paste and if the took the time to use the right font, the letters in the photoshopped version would be super clear.
You could just edit the source and nobody would be able to tell if it was photoshopped or not... example
The admins will be able to trace back his edit. So for now. . . I suppose it s unclear and unresolved.
Wouldn't the removal of his mod status indicate guilt?
Eh, that's more of a reaction to something, not hard evidence.
It's fine though, admins can see everything. They're watching you. Right...now.
I don't doubt it. That's why all my jerking is going to here in SRD tonight.

You don't gotta prove it to me, i saw the original :) But to other people that didn't see it (i know that's why you posted this) it is great evidence.
He claimed that I was running a bot net, then quickly edited his post.
When I called him out on it, he claimed that he never edited his post and never claimed anything.
As if I don't have a memory.
He actually made 3 comments yesterday saying his bot theory was wrong because the 30% thing he was going on about was actually reddit hiding downvoted posts so no further posts can be found.
However, that seems to all be deleted. I dont know how many more of his bot conspiracy theory remain.
All vicious rumours to taint the community and attack the ex-mods who he has something against
More trivially, he also stealth edited a comment to try and make me look silly yesterday and win an arguement
This type of manipulation is bullshit and inspires zero trust. I thought he was hired by /r/technology to help gain the trust of skeptics
>More trivially, he also stealth edited a comment to try and make me look silly yesterday and win an arguement
OMG. That's the saddest thing I've seen in quite a while. He really is a fucking child, isn't he?

I remember seeing your "eating d!cks" comment and thinking "Well, that's got ZERO context here." Then you edited it when you noticed his manipulation and I had to laugh.
He's also got a history of simply ignoring anyone showing him proof his ideas are wrong or not what he makes them out to be as well.
I know, he's doing the exact same thing now because hes full if shit. He just sent me a private message so i guess he's done smearing his own name, for now.
Unless they used Inspect Element
Impossible, the post has been since removed.
This is actually true. How would you know what or how to fake it if you didn't have the content of the pre-edit.
It took me a fucking hour of reading your comment maybe a dozen times before it clicked.
If some one was to fake it, they would have made it a more explicit and incriminating call to brigade.
The actual text in the screen shot probably doesn't break rules if it was posted to /r/technology. However, because, it was posted to /r/undelete, it looks technically a bit like brigading to me (but only just).
creq is full of shit and edits and deletes comments to suit him and help him win arguments. The scandal is that he has been caught lying and manipulating information again.
You can't, because it wasn't faked, and /u/creq is a fucking compulsive liar. But its ok, justice will be served, in due time.
I always like it when I see "/u/$user has been shadowbanned" on a SRD post. Theres always a lot of speculation and rumour in those threads since its not observing something. And drama in SRD is almost always good, delicious drama.
This still hasn't clicked for me. Why wouldn't inspect element work?
Wouldn't matter for shit if he claims it's photoshoped. Pretty sure admins can see what was edited out.
I just said the same thing a few minutes before you :)

/u/redditbots also caught a [snap shot and is hosting it at redditlog.com] (http://www.redditlog.com/snapshots/521897)
You had me excited but that snapshot doesn't go back far enough :(
I'm mad I've been called a liar and I want to be vindicated. I did not edit that screenshot and I'm waiting for the admins to prove it.
Wow.
So how fast do you think the shadowban-hammer will come down?
Are we starting a pool?
Im already on my alt. as my main account was sb, im assuming it wont be long before we're all making another account.
Well, I'm trying to stay away from all of it this round. Sticking to the subredditdrama stuff and making sure I'm only on NP links and things.
Oh, well, my lack of imaginary internet points will be helpful while I till the garden I am sure.
You can still look at your imaginary internet points that you've gained up until the point you were banned, and hell, you can start a new account, add all the karma up and just know in your own head that you have that much karma.
Lol. good Point. I find it hilarious that I went out to start tilling up the garden patch and came back to find /u/creq decided to go full-Buddhist-monk and self-immolate.
I knew something wasn't quite right with him.
I knew something was up with him yesterday but now he confirmed that he's just delusional and power hungry, which will hopefully come to an end shortly.
I was shadowbanned 3 days ago on this account because I downvoted a comment from a link I followed in subredditdrama.
I didn't realize it was a np link so I out of instinct downvoted 2 comments I disagreed with.
Sent a message to the admins and we solved it. The problem is that np links don't disable down/upvote buttons, so if you have a lot of tabs open you may not notice the np link.
Cool. Thank you! I didn't know that. I've been trying to make sure not to vote on things unless its here. A little bit tempting at times but so much popcorn is making me groggy!
Wait, whats the point of NP if that happens then?
It's a CSS hack that does nothing unless .np links are uses and both sending and receiving subs have it implemented.
I was told the other night that they have no idea why people keep talking about np. They never told anyone to use it, nor do they endorse it in any way.
I don't know. It may be RES interfering with NP links.
Edit: doesn't seem to be RES. I have no idea then.
In a perfect world, np links should just disable up/downvotes.
There is a grease monkey script that enforces it globally. https://userscripts.org/scripts/show/486119. Advice Animals css for NP is very restricted, users appear as [redacted] no points shown. With all the shadow bans around i use it.

NP links were created by individual users and have nothing to do with the admins. If the sub being linked to does not incorporate NP links into their CSS then the page will display normally. NP is not a reddit-wide feature.

plausable deniability at the very least...
Is there a page that describes what a shadowban is, how you get one, and what it does? Cause I'm sure I could make the same mistake and I'd rather know. Can mods or admins see what I'm voting on?
Mods cannot see what you're voting on.
Admins can.
A shadowban is essentially, making your account, your account actions invisible to every other user but yourself. Mods can still see your comments and mod mail but the other users can't.
It's like being sent to a limbo, and a casual user that gets shadowbanned may take quite a while to realize they were banned.
Mostly it's reserved for people who've been naughty. Doxxing, vote brigading.
Edit: If you get shadowbanned and your conscience is completely clear just send the admins a modmail on /r/reddit.com. They won't eat you.
Thank you. How can admin keep track of the millions of people on this site, especially close enough to see things like vote brigading? probably showing my computer illiteracy, but do the admins have an easy record to check for stuff like that, or do they have to be summoned by mods for assitance. Particularly for the blockade at r/technology. Why doesn't /u/creq just call in an admin to watch the new page and then shadow ban the brigaders.

could be worse, I accidently replied to what I thought was /r/conspiratard that way.. fortunatley I was able to delete everything before it even became a problem.
I'm pretty positive he wrote it but anyone could edit the source and make a post say anything they want by any user they want. Screenshots aren't proof in this case.
dude thats like some matrix level investigating you did there
Interesting - any idea what the pay. in front of Reddit.com means?
Some people use it for different things, i don't know much about it but i think its encrypted/safe? I could be completely wrong tho, i know you have to use it to get on your reddit account from a /r/tor browser tho. Your asking the wrong guy tho, sorry.
> Your asking the wrong guy tho,
Thanks for the reply, though.
It's secure. it says pay but there is no payment involved. thats just the link
It's for Https instead of Http.
thank you.
No problem.
Actually something i do know is the only way to get on it is to put https:// in front of it or it give you a "you aren't suppose to be here" message.
It's reddits version of ssl.
interesting - odd choice of names though - if its just ssl equivalent it seems like safe. or secure. would be more appropriate than pay.
It's a way of forcing Reddit to use SSL. It's just a method of getting it until they get their CDN's ready for true SSL.
Why would anyone photoshop a reddit text post? You can activate edit mode in JavaScript and then just take a normal screenshot.
creq has been removed as a mod of /r/undelete as well.
Edit: He says he was never a mod there, who knows.
Damn!
He could of remained reddit's defender of freeze peaches, but the lure of modding such a large sub was just too great.
Now he's stuck with the shitshow he helped create. There's something poetic about that.

Stand tall.
The /r/technology is so poetic in it's irony.
I don't understand why people are acting this way.
When something like this happens the best you can do is stay silent until it blows over, then issue a small statement when the heat is off.
Yet they keep on digging their graves. There's just so much popcorn.
The Winchester must be closed.
And the best thing we can do is fetch more popcorn and get comfy, because this is going to go on for quite some time.
I'm buying stocks in butter and salt.
The longer it takes for it to blow over though, the better the chances of another competing sub stealing their seat at the table. They probably want to show they have the masses and their own shit together ASAP to be reinstated.
This drama has reached bbc news. I doubt they'll ever be reinstated.
Sadly, reddit is much like youtube when it comes to subscriptions. /r/technology, default or not, has so many subscribers by now that it won't matter how much drama they throw out simply because the casual reader will have no idea that it happened in the first place.
I just hope this whole issue helped more people realize how the current mod hierarchy is completely flawed. Reddit shouldn't be ruled by an elite of power users, because that's very easy to abuse.
But that's kind of part of YouTube's analysis metrics, to promote new things based on not only taste but popularity. I still get new channels.
Reddit doesn't run any metrics on where you go or what you like.
Edit: so you're stuck with whatever defaults happen to be up when you create an account.
>YouTube's analysis metrics, to promote new things based on not only taste but popularity.
And here I am getting recommended Pewdiepie when I prefer watching people play technical games like Europa Universalis IV, grumble grumble.
If he ain't your thing, block him. It'll get him off the list (not generated on demand, gotta wait).
I get a ton of WoW stuff all over.
Then how do you propose they do it? 100% automation?
Yah it's flawed, but frankly I don't really see anything better.
It's like the bowl is endless.
Sometimes, and I speak from experience, it's just so hard to not comment when you feel very very wronged.

I'm late to this whole thing but what exactly is causing all the drama on r/technology? Are the mods getting ban happy?
If asking people to upvote the posts they like on a subreddit you moderate because everything is getting buried counts as calling for a vote-brigade, then it's an oversight. This clearly isn't what the rule is about.
But it IS what the rule is about. He clearly asks another Subreddit for upvotes right after he posted about 10 links himself. So he's not only trying to cheat his own way to popularity, but also his Subreddit's.

I think /u/creq is a pretty good example of why putting someone into a position of power (no matter how insignificant that power is) who believes there are large, intricate, invisible forces working against them is a bad idea.
I've had /u/creq tagged as "/r/conspiracy poster" for a while. And I'm pretty sure they were happy to see one of their own on the /r/technology modlist. There were all these /r/conspiracy posts about how he heroically found the list of banned keywords, single-handedly revealed the censorship etc., and there were some posts in /r/technology to that effect.
And now?
They want to tear off his head and take a shit down the hole.
BUTTERY!
I'm simply confused by /u/creq's actions.
Which actions? There are some things he did, and then there are a few thousand* things he didn't actually do that people are accusing him of doing.

he is normally very cool given the shit he puts up with from all sides.
I find the /r/conspiracy official storyline really strange. Don't they see that by joining the attack against the /r/technology power mods, they can also get ammunition to destabilise worldnews.
/r/worldnews free from "censorship" will be a greater prize and an even bigger spamming ground to serve their conspiracy agenda. Maybe they got bigger plans .
This is so bizarre. The more this goes on, the more I sort of think this is a circlejerk or 4chan type project. Maybe it's just trolls or whatever, but the anger and reaction doesn't seem to be of typical reddit hivemind thinking.
I think some people are just having fun trolling at this point... and they have a default mod on the hook so lots of room for lulz.
I guess it's an unpopular opinion, but I think /u/creq is probably right on what's going on but at the same time he's not handling it well.

davidreiss666 added some terms to the automatic filter in an effort to keep the sub Reddit more technology focused.

There were posts that have nothing to do with technology, like Tesla’s stock prices.
I’m not sure how transparent the filtering was. I thought I saw a comment from agentlame, or someone else that mentioned something like “if your Tesla post didn’t get through, message the mods”.
Anyways, maybe the filtering wasn’t advertised, because a lot of the users didn’t know about the filtering.
creq did some tests, and he found out about the filtering.
>I have identified a list of keywords that are banned from /r/technology. Putting one in the title of a post will result in that post not showing up in the feed.

Everyone freaked out.
I thought I saw creq accusing the mods of being shady, even before the filtering was found out. I guess the confirmation of his suspicions has put him on edge.
If he was high-strung before, he’s probably even more so now.
Now that he’s actually a moderator that has to deal with a barrage of stuff being thrown at you, well.. We’ll see how that plays out.
From the sticky on /r/technology right now:
>This is a rule-breaking post because it is meta-discussion and that belongs in /r/technologymeta
>I always encourage all users to use the report button on rule-breaking posts.
>If enough reports are sent in on posts they are automatically removed, as a rule.
Sounds like the same rationale I used when I was little and my mom ate food in the living room but told me I couldn't.
This is one the first large pieces of drama here that I legtimately cannot understand what it's all about. Everyone's just crazy.
Can we just migrate to /r/tech (or literally anywhere else)?
A mod of a subreddit known for its ridiculous levels of censorship and banned topics list complains about censorship.
head explodes

He's pulling our leg, surely. They're having fun with it now.
