"Some people are angry at representatives of the government, so therefore we should be okay with police officers using their power to kill innocent people on empty pretense!"

Yeah and if you get angry enough at your representatives you can kill them, is that right? DAE Gabby Giffords had it coming?!?!?!

Hello, strawman, how are you?

I'm just saying that the sentiment you expressed only deepens the real, actual problem of police brutality. I'm not advocating to kill any cops, only to remain mindful that every citizen has rights that do not end at the behest of a police officer.

Oh, are you talking to me now, or are you referring to that strawman you previously made for me? Just sending it back your way.

Your sentiment deepens the real, actual problem of cop killers and libertarian idiots who harass officers. Police have the right to self defense, and it does not end at the behest of citizens who don't like their job.

So wait. A), you believe that there is an epidemic of police officer killings across the nation that anywhere near rivals the amount of people who die from police brutality in the same time period, and B), you believe that police officers are universally some kind of sweet angelic race who only exist to help people and how dare we protect the rights given to us by our government.

> Police have the right to self defense

What part of 'self-defense' is 'killed a mentally handicapped man because he had a bulge in his pants'? If some non-police officer did that to a man who had mistakenly wandered onto his property, the outrage it would spark across the nation would fuel fifteen new bills through the Senate, but because it's a police officer, he gets a free pass?

Like I said, I don't advocate killing police officers. I just advocate protecting your own goddamn rights.

So, wait. A. You believe that cop killings don't happen, and in fact, it's more morally reprehensible that someone is killed by an officer, than someone killing an officer because they enforce the law and B. You believe that all suspects are innocent and all arrests are false and prisons are only stuffed with innocent people busted for dime bags while sitting at home playing vidya games.

What part of protesting means killing men and women who enforce the law? If some non-police officer was killed because they did their legal job and were cheered on for it, the outrage would spark across the nation and there would be a flurry of bills seeking to protect citizens from each other. But because it's against cops, it's ok?

> Like I said, I don't advocate killing police officers. I just advocate protecting your own goddamn rights.

Like I said, I don't advocate for police brutality. I just advocate that cops have the right to self defense, right to trial, and can not be targeted nor killed because they enforce the law.

How did we get from disliking cops to saying it was okay to shoot Senator Giffords in the head? I feel like we just crossed a bridge called impossible comparison into crazy town.

Seriously though, Gabby Giffords never beat the living shit out of me for being Hispanic at the wrong time of day. So uhh... not sure what point you were trying to make there.

For the same reason we got from "you shouldn't advocate killing police and then whine about how they're on edge" to "it's ok for police officers to use their power to kill innocent people under false pretenses".

Yup, we crossed a bridge alright. And it looks like you're under it.

Trying to understand your argument isn't the same as agreeing or disagreeing with it. It is curiosity.

Calling you a troll isn't the same as saying you agree or disagree with my argument. It is disinterest.

I didn't even realize you were calling me a troll. I just thought it was a complex metaphor for the discussion I realize we're not going to have any chance of having. If I had realized you were basically telling me to go fuck myself, I would have bowed out earlier. Sorry I wasted your time. Also sorry that I'm a minority with a negative life experience. Reddit hates that.
