I don't know, I have a hard time feeling sorry for the "victim" in this case and I could probably even be convinced to say that he deserved it.

The problem isn't whether or not he deserved it, it's whether or not that's what should've happened. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, after all.

> An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind

While I may not agree with /u/rasterizedlines, if this euphemism happened, perhaps folks would start listening.

Oh, certainly. It's not like they could start seeing, anyway.

Call me crazy but if you beat and rape a 1 year old to death I sort of think that rape and beatings should be part of your court mandated punishment.

You think the government should have the authority to literally rape people?

Violent pederasts? Yeah.

Not in the sense of having an "official government rapist" but yeah, I have no problem with child rapists being raped as part of their punishment.

Give them a choice - serve out the entirety of your prison sentence or be brutally, violently raped and have your sentence reduced by a few years.

They raped a kid. Fuck'em.

You're incredibly ignorant if you believe any of that. Or a high schooler.

It doesn't require much thought to understand why we have laws against cruel and unusual punishment.

Also, are you trying to say he should get his prison sentence reduced now?

because a rapist definitely wouldn't take one up the ass for the chance to get out there and rape more kids.

So prison isn't about rehabilitation or protecting people from criminals now. It's just about revenge apparently.

>Or a high schooler.

Well that much is obvious.

Do I want his prison sentence reduced? No. He raped and murdered a 1 year old. Hopefully he dies in prison.

That being said, for lesser crimes I'd totally support giving prisoners a choice between corporal punishment and jail time. Like say, caining, for a non-felony, instead of sending the criminal to jail.

Judge Bill McFutureguy presiding.

"The defendant has been shown to have stolen a bread. We sentence him to either 10 years in prison or to have his hand chopped off."

"The defendant has shown infidelity, they can either accept a fine of 50.000 dollars or be stoned until unconscious."

I was thinking more along the lines of "The defendant has been found guilty of shoplifting. He can either spend 90 days in jail or be subject to X number of lashes with a cane."

What does giving them a reduced sentence for corporal punishment do?

Does it make things safer for the people outside of prison?
Does doing bad things to them and shortening their time make their rehabilitation go smoother?

I'm thinking more along the lines of nonviolent crimes. If nothing else, it would save us the cost of having to house so many non-violent prisoners.

It makes even less sense now.

So you beat someone who isn't violent to do...what exactly?
Teach them how to be violent?
Show them how great violence is?

You realize you can stop keeping non-violent criminals in prison without beating them right?

don't think about it as feeling sorry for the 'victim' here, but by being unnerved that someone else was willing to rape a person at all. Think about that person. "You did something I don't like, so I'm going to force my dick in your butt". What kind of person has that mentality? And is that the kind of person you want to encourage?

Sorry, I don't have much sympathy for child rapists so while you are most certainly right I have a hard time feeling any sort of sympathy for the victim in this particular incident. I also have a hard time convincing myself that he didn't deserve it.

it doesn't matter what the guy in the picture deserved, it's a matter of Someone Else Had To Do That.

Would you have personally raped the guy in the picture? Pulled down his pants and shoved something in his anus until something ruptured? Stabbed him a few times too?

And here we find a good example of rape culture.

Rape culture doesn't exist. An example of "rape culture" would be if my comment had massive positive karma and little negative karma. Then, and only then, could you argue that it was an example of rape culture.

Clearly most people don't agree with me.
