In /r/atheism, OP's submission is a picture of a crucifix he hung on his front door that he fashioned out of his wife's dildo. When a user suggests this might not be respectful, OP's wife shows up to defend it. (np.reddit.com)

They're in that house.
In every neighborhood, there's a house that everyone knows about. One where the people that live there advertise their oddities or dysfunction to everyone around them. Perhaps it's the way a house is decorated from the outside, or junk is spilling out from inside the house there's so much, or the lawn hasn't been mowed all year, but there's something that speaks to something wrong with the people there and your best bet is to keep your distance.
In my neighborhood, it's a house that has their door covered in single-colored wrapping paper and dog poop all over the front lawn (and even the sidewalk) that is never picked up. Their roof appears to have a hole in it. And that's a mild case compared to what's out there.
These people have advertised that they're in one of those houses. Best to stay away.
The worst thing is living next to that house and trying to sell yours. Even if your house isn't great the buyer can fix it when you're gone. Those neighbours aren't going anywhere.
"Oh no, your house is very nice - I'm just not so sure about that place next door with a crucifix dildo over their door..."
You just have to be clever when posting the ad for your house.
"Quaint 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath house available. Absolutely gorgeous neighborhood, definite curb appeal, plenty of trees for shade during those hot summer months. Close to schools and shopping centers, dildo adjacent and within walking distance of public transport to the city."
There's 5 of those houses on my street. I really need to move.
Ever think that those 5 families think that you own "that" house? They're all free spirited and fun while you're that stuffy square with a neat yard?
It's like the twilight zone home owners association or something.
That's a thought. He's the one dragging down property values.
I'm pretty sure I'm "that" house on my street. My neighborhood is all 50+ year-old couples that spend an hour a day on yard work and here I am a work-at-home musician in his early 20s who they probably assume is unemployed.
I do mow my lawn, though.
I don't mind if they're free spirited hippies, I do mind that they get drunk, shoot fireworks at 3am, and pass out in the street.
I much prefer when people advertise their edginess through bumper stickers, at least they are only brining down the value of their own car.
If you live in Milwaukee, you probably thought of this guy when you saw this comment.
I know a guy who drives this around.
Ronpaul! Apply directly to the quarterpanel!
Well, he's either never actually looked up what Ron Paul advocates or he has and he's just completely off his rocker.
Either way, he's the downside of the democratic process.
He knows exactly what Paul advocates.
That's... unfortunate.
I'm thankful I'm far enough away from Milwaukee (30 miles) to not have to see that.
I'd rather put up with such a neighbor in the vicinity than be subject to an HOA.
Are you under the mistaken impression that anyone's even going to notice this?
Word of wisdom, brother! I have to agree i don't go anywhere near houses where religious nuts live. As far as I've heard, these loons plaster their interior with crosses and bible verses and call their pastor when their child is sick instead of visiting a doctor. You can hear them praying loudly on Sundays and they keep pestering their neighbours to join "their church" And to top it all off, their kids are indoctrinated into their religious bullshit from an early age, severely clouding their view of the world. God forbid they know you hold atheistic beliefs when visiting them. Best to just avoid these houses.
If normal, functional Atheists want to show their philosophy on the outside of their homes the way some Christians do, they can put the symbol of the atom (that they use on military headstones), or the Humanist symbol, or one of a handful of other tasteful icons.
What these people have done isn't just offensive, it's bloody weird and a sign that these people are very unpleasant to be around.
If a dildo shaped into a cross is offensive to someone, they better talk to some people who have experienced some perspectives outside their sheltered life to understand that lot of people don't care about hurting their delicate feelings.
>these people are very unpleasant to be around
Speak for yourself. I found their prank hilarious. So would any secular minded people. The "poor oppressed MIL's" daughter was in it for fucks sake. They would be most likely having a laugh at the end of the day when the online social justice enforcers furiously type on their keyboards.
Oh, please tell me about your experience outside your sheltered life. I'm sure it will be enlightening for all of us.
He grew up on the mean streets of a generic midwestern suburb, where his mommy made him go to church a few times a month. He's had a hard life man.
I would gladly if it was not someone asking sarcastically.
In other words nuh uh, make me.
No, I would seriously explain if asked non sarcastically.
Very well.
Please explain why it's not offensive based on your experience.
I'm an atheist and found it unbelievably tacky and strange.
Remember that when Sam Harris' next book comes out, and someone uses half the pages to fashion a paper mache crucifix out of irony and the other half as toilet paper. I'm sure r/atheism will show the same sense of humor and restraint. They are "secular minded people," after all.
Why are you telling me about r/atheism?
Are you mentally disabled or just plain stupid?
You are obviously unpleasant to be around. Atheism is not believing in Gods. Atheism isn't let's do our best to be sacrilegious, and offend people.
Your Atheism is that of a teenager rebelling, and writing swastikas in bathroom stalls.
Atheist here. It was fucking trashy and immature. That anyone would find it "hilarious" just shows how big of a douche they are.
"Christian here. Dildo cross is funny. Also pope Francis sucks"
See.. Anectodes have their worth.
>I found their prank hilarious. So would any secular minded people.
Who are also between the ages of 12-17.
Careful, I nearly cut myself on your vitrolic edginess.
You might want to consider coating yourself in more "Lé Famous Reddit cliché" to gain even more comment karma and to protect yourself against edginess.
I wouldn't want to coat myself in you. That sounds gross.

No wait.. It isn't.
You realize all that makes you sound like you've never met a Christian, yeah?
