Yeah, that always gets me. People are quick to blame white people for historic wrongs, but that is because they developed technology in more barbaric times. Do you think the Zulus would have been more kind with muskets? For every white person you want to unload on for historic wrongs, you need to get on your knees and thank a hundred first for the renaissance, the age of exploration, the industrial revolution, the atomic age, and the information age we live in. Take a look at your life and ask yourself how much of current civilization would exist if not for the white man.

For all I know, whites are the only reason that we all are not currently as barbaric as the very people that are decried with rants against historic wrongs.

Basically, we were the first to invent technology which gave us the possibility to take over the world. It's very ignorant to assume that if non-white nations had the same technology they wouldn't have done the same.

Also, all races have been both slave masters and slaves in history. People today are just ignorant of history.

Lol that reminds me of natives saying: we never had any problems till the white man showed up. Um wtf do you call whole slaughter tribe on tribe?

Well, those natives didn't have any problems. They were the ones doing the slaughtering, not getting slaughtered. Hence they're still around to reminisce about when they controlled the entire continent.

Native history is complicated and (including the colonization by Europeans) just as filled with war and death as any other place on the planet.

I reject the concept that any race is inherently more peaceful then another. By definition that is racism. As a white person, I have experienced racism, and it's primarily from natives calling me white devil, paleface, soulless white man etc. The second worst were Japanese.

You have to walk very careful ground with that argument. The type of person who would generalize to "all white people deserve pain to make up for the past" will take you to be saying "all white people are better".

Your language "barbaric times" implies everything was barbaric before white people and "get on your knees and thank a hundred [white people]" is especially likely to piss people off.

I think I agree with your overall point (that whoever has won an arms race in the past has been shitty), but the way you phrase it really seems to imply that white people are better for a reason. I don't think you meant it that way either, just want to give you a heads up so you can argue more effectively in the future.

Perhaps he's just making a Guns, Germs, and Steel argument. That our ancestors migrated out of Africa and settled in an area where calories grew out of the ground, which fueled our brains and freed our time to pursue other things than just looking for food all day.

I've read that book and enjoyed it, as I said I agree with the overall comment. I just think that there are better ways to phrase that argument (like you did).

Just because it's offensive, doesn't make it untrue. White people have contributed a vast amount to modern society. Also, asians and Arabs. The arabs gave us our numbers :D At any rate I personally don't find it offensive to observe that a certain race has contributed more to a certain field. I refuse to believe that an objective observation is racist.

So? You care too much whether or not you offend other people.

It's very hard to change the mind of someone you've already pissed off. Diplomatic language is needed for good communication.
