Ok so I've just noticed EFS links to his Twitter on TiA. Upon viewing it I noticed that he links to threads when he gets butthurt and then a cringey circlejerk occurs wherein a group of Twitterinas fellate their 'TiA is being criticized waaah' complex.
I posted in that thread yesterday when it was only a few hours old and can attest to the fact that it was already at 0 and only viewable from the new queue. Now after re-viewing it, it appears all the voting has changed rather dramatically (as in pretty much every comment has had it's voting flipped).
I do not like seeing off-site brigading and personal army rallying affecting the workings of this site so I've taken the liberty of reporting him to the admins. Twitter is not your personal tool to get upvotes. I know /u/cupcake1713 is usually quite involved with the meta community, hopefully she or someone else clears this up.
Edit: Thanks for the reply, hopefully this will get sorted
Edit 2: I'm not the only one to have noticed this then.
Ehhhhhh people have been shadowbanned for that. This could lead to way more popcorn.
I like EFS but the popcorn will be worth it
There are some sacrifices we must make in the name of popcorn.
Didn't TotalBiscuit get in trouble for pretty much the same thing? Linking to his Reddit arguments on Twitter and slowly watching as the votes change.
Yes, /u/Deimorz called him out for linking to his twitter. TB didn't get banned for it though but was close to being banned apparently. http://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/1iqdc4/civilizeddiscussionandlevelheadedmoderation/cb7eaul?context=3
From the looks of Deimorz's post it seems TB was doing more than EFS did in terms of pointing his audience. I'd have to see a post a TB post to be sure, but it sounds like he was complaining about people dissing him and then linking to the argument. All EFS put was LOL Noobie.
AFAIK he was nearly banned for it, after he got warned in a thread he decided to ditch reddit completely.
He came back for a little bit with a new account and only posted in the subreddit for his channel, until he had a breakdown. It was pretty interesting to watch. I don't like the guy, but I certainly don't wish him any ill-will, so him leaving Reddit (a second time) was probably for the best.
Oh, he'll be back. People like that just can't help themselves.
I think so, not sure. That person whose artwork was stolen by Sarkeesan that got shadowbanned a couple of days before her AMA was banned for it I think.
She explicitly asked for upvotes.
Yeah, it's a difference between explicitly and implicitly asking for votes.
Yowch. I like EFS, but... Yeah, that's kind of a fuckup. Seems like he's deleted it from his twitter, though.
I've seen people accuse him of the same thing weeks ago
Yeah, I like him as a person and he's usually a competent mod, but.. He does tend to not care about some things.
Eh. He's funny, and he has a decent tumblr, I can cope with him.
I know nothing about Tumblr, so he might have a good Tumblr. But I don't think he's funny on reddit.
Eh, I'm easily amused, so I can understand you not liking him. He's got a pretty strong personality, too.
He just uses buzzwords and references...
"SJW factivist +50 Dogecoin lol"
I thought he was a pretty cool guy when I used to go on TiA earlier but he seems a bit power-mod-typish hungry now?
Whaa? It's totally not power-hungry to "declare war" on another subreddit. Don't know where you got that impression.
Guess he realized it was a fuck up!
mmhmm. Love the dude, but... He's not the smartest dude.
It's happening in this thread too.
If that's so then how does narwhals comment or yours for that matter have positive Karma?
probably because they were brought up after all of the down voting occurred.
He never asked for votes, just said look at this. Which seems to be the ok version of vote brigades reddit allows. Usually they hit people on the being explicit thing.
Also from the very beginning EFS was getting better votes than Noobie or yourself for that matter. Probably due to name recognition. I know I downvote Noobie on sight now because he's a tiresome bore.
He didn't even say "look at this", he said "lol @ N00bie" or something similar, and then had a link to that thread with that .pay thing (which is like .np I think).
.pay is just the ssl version of reddit. It doesn't stop anyone from voting or commenting.
So, according to narwhal should we ban every single celebrity that posts something like "I'm doing at AMA over reddit, check this out: <link>" ???
lel.
>He never asked for votes, just said look at this. Which seems to be the ok version of vote brigades reddit allows. Usually they hit people on the being explicit thing.
TotalBiscuit was (correction: very nearly) banned for doing just that.
He linked to threads that annoyed him, and they all garnered votes from it.
Biscuit told them to support him I believe. This is just sharing a link.
I don't see why you care though. Your whole shtick is being annoying and getting downvotes, just think of this as someone one helping you along if anything.
>Biscuit told them to support him I believe.
Nope. Deimorz mentioned as much.
>Your whole shtick is being annoying and getting downvotes, just think of this as someone one helping you along if anything.
I like my downvotes organic, thank you very much!
Oooh. The Reddit metasphere has its very own TotalBiscuit? How delicious!
How is it that you get to determine what people use Twitter for? Twitter is quite literally people's personal tool to use for whatever they want...
I already said this in another part of the thread, but linking to a Reddit post outside of Reddit is not a violation of any rules. Telling people to vote is against the rules. I just tweeted a link to a thread, I tweet links to a lot of Reddit threads whether they're ones I'm involved in or not. That's not against Reddit's rules.
In addition, I have not linked this thread in my Twitter and yet N00bie is still being heavily downvoted... like he always is.
From reddit's explanation of "vote manipulation:"
> Don't be part of a vote clique. A voting clique is a group of people who send links to their submissions around via message, IM, or any other means, with the expectation of "you guys vote for my stuff and I'll vote for yours." A "vote ring" is a group of people who agree to vote on certain things together, either a specific submission, a user, a domain, or anything like that. Upvote each submission or content for the value of the information in it, a variety of things that you think are interesting and will benefit the community.
http://www.reddit.com/wiki/faq#wikiwhatconstitutesvotecheatingandvote_manipulation.3F
you take a twitter that is linked at the top of your large subreddit and use it to spread links to stuff you're involved in. That seems like a vote clique to me.
Right. So please point to where I said something to the effect of "you guys vote for my stuff and I'll vote for yours." Then I will concede.
Meanwhile allow me to show you the Reddit rules.
>Don't ask for votes or engage in vote manipulation.
>[–] What does vote manipulation look like?
>NOT OK: Buying votes or using services to vote.
>OK: Sharing reddit links with your friends.
>NOT OK: Sharing links with your friends or coworkers and asking them to vote.
>NOT OK: Creating submissions such as "For every upvote I will ..." or "... please upvote this!", regardless of the cause.
I didn't ask anyone to upvote anything, I just shared the link with my followers. That is explicitly allowed within Reddit's rules. There is no ambiguity here.
Is your twitter just for "your friends?" Why would they say "your friends?" in that rule?
I know you didn't outright ask anyone to upvote anything, but are you seriously saying that your twitter hasn't manipulated any voting?
Well I would assume anyone who cares enough to follow me on Twitter likes me to the extent that they're actually opting to see my random, meaningless, disjointed thoughts daily. Obviously Twitter followers aren't close friends, but the point is I just shared the link with people I know, many of whom aren't even on Reddit (I'm also well known on Tumblr, being all anti-SJW and shit). That's it. No rule against that.
I don't think my Twitter did manipulate voting, no. I have a tiny number of followers and most of them don't click my links. Your argument may hold some ground if I had like 100k followers but I don't.
And even if someone were to click a link from my Twitter and vote, that's not really the point, is it? The point is that I'm not allowed to instruct them to vote.
I follow the rules of Reddit to the letter.
There's not a lot of letters in reddit's rules to follow, hence these kinds of discussion.
I personally believe how you use your Twitter is vote manipulation and that it has led to manipulated votes. I don't believe the number of followers you have is relevant.
And that's how this discussion will always go, I guess.
That's shitty for him to do. At the same time, there are multiple SRS twitters where people do the same thing, and the admins told me they couldn't ban a person, since there's no real proof that the twitter accounts belong to the same person (and there's really no way for the admins to know). There's many IRC messages where SRSers specifically ask for other SRSers to "bridge" certain threads, but according to the admins, those instances don't count since they can't be fact-checked.
I think that's ridiculous, and would also be ridiculous in this case if the guy isn't banned. If the bans are consistent, I wouldn't mind at all -- if not though, that's where I have an issue. I can pull up some old links I gave about SRSers like therealbarackobama doing the same thing, but the admins said those pastebins/facebook pages could've easily been faked. `
Lol there's always someone that cries "but what about SRS?"
Sure, I'm just saying that someone having a twitter account generally won't get them banned by the admins, since the "proof" is inherently second-hand, even if it's linked by the user themselves. Logically, it'd make sense for the admins to ban the guy. Though if they did, then it calls into question all these other cases where they didn't.

>since there's no real proof that the twitter accounts belong to the same person (and there's really no way for the admins to know)
He links to his Twitter in the sub. It's not a secret.
