I agree with you, and I'm sorry that I gotta be that asshole, but it is called a magazine.

What's the difference?

A clip's basically just a dumb piece of metal or something that holds some bullets. Think WWII rifles or a revolver speed-loader. A magazine has springs or other mechanisms inside that feed the ammunition up to the receiver. Magazines are what assault rifles or handguns have in them.

To confuse you even more, the Chinese Type 56 SKS (among others)has a 10 round fixed magazine that is loaded by 10 round stripper clips (or by hand).

What is the difference? Is magazine the modern term? Or does clip only apply to certain weapon types?

Not certain weapons, it's a totally different piece. A "clip" is the piece rounds sometime come attached to out of the box. A "magazine" is loaded with loose rounds, that do sometimes come on clips, and is either detachable or not.

Every rifle, handgun, or shotgun you've seen, that isn't a single shot, has a magazine. Some of them are just detachable. The tube on the underside of a shotgun? A fixed magazine. The long, skinny box with a spring that drops out of the bottom of a handgun? A detachable magazine.

What if I told you there was at least one clip fed .45 acp pistol?

Some guns use clips, you know.

I agree with you and the OP, but I gotta be that asshole and say, "not necessarily"

Though unlikely, the OP could be referring to a clip-fed 45 caliber firearm. They exist.

Not a gun expert: isn't a clip the contents of a magazine? Or is it just the bullets without a full casing like with the M1 Garand?

From Google: >Clip (noun) a metal holder containing cartridges for an automatic firearm.

So like an M1. The actual box is a mag.

M1 garands use en bloc clips, to be exact.

Magazine goes into the gun, clip loads ammo into the gun and is discarded.

Hell, even a .22 will do that. I've seen anal anti-gun activists giggle like a school girl after the first 12 gauge shot.

I thought I knew how fun guns where until my friend brought his assault style .22 with a laser site (laser site not shown) and loaded 4 banana clips for me. Not a gun I'd buy, but a gun I'd shoot again first chance I get.

Shooting guns is fun... I still don't think there's any valid reason for a civilian to own a handgun.

I mean, I'd probably enjoy throwing grenades even more. But I don't think I should be able to own them.

If you are going to be a dick about it at least be correct. It is .410

I take it you only handle firearms in video games with a comment like that

Shut up, you sound like a snobby douche. A lot of people start out with .22's and love them. Not only that its a good starter for people afraid of recoil. A quick way to get a girl or young boy to not like guns is to hand them a 12 gauge and laugh when the get knocked on their ass.
