In his AMA Ron Pearlman tells a Fallout fanboy that he has never played a game and he should "get out more". Assorted slew of gamers are instantly outraged at the double blasphemy. (np.reddit.com)

Which is fair, but it's basically the same thing if Patrick Stewart came on and said "I've never read comic books, and frankly the people who liked X-Men kind of suck." It's probably true, but it's not something that you want to hear one of your idols (someone who has played a role you like in a game you like) say.
Except that I think there is a clear difference between lending your voice to a couple of lines in a video game and playing a part in several movies. Playing a part takes way more dedication and time than going into a sound studio for a couple of hours and reading some lines.
I could agree with all of the anger if Pearlman had said the same thing about Hellboy but he doesn't. In fact he's been known to go above and beyond with child fans of those movies.
If this is the worst thing to happen in your life I'm jealous of you.
There are many worse things, but that's not really the test.
When I stub my toe, it's objectively not as bad as my grandfather dying. It still hurts like a motherfucker.
Just trying to keep perspective, you know?
Yah it hurts, but at least the hurt is over quick...
Have you ever stubbed your toe? Fuckin' thing throbs for hours.
I stubbed my toe so hard it killed my grandmother, stubbed it right on her ventilator
I don't know what to think of the voting here. Fuck me for thinkign it's not a big deal I guess.
So what?
So freakign out about someone saying something mean to you online is about as bad as stubbing your toe.
It hurts, you'll get over it.
So you mean to say people can't express any negative feelings if it is about things they will eventually get over?
Of course, I totally said that.
Jesus christ, I'm just saying in the grand scheme of things this is something that's not that life shattering.
Oh okay.
The sky is blue. It has clouds on it.
But it's less mean to laugh at you.
Maybe. And we could spend the time to come up with a kind of Maslow's hierarchy of being mean, and determine that laughing at someone whose grandfather died is probably less mean than laughing at someone who was raped
Who cares? Mean is mean.
Oh.
And if you make someone an "idol" because he "played a role you like in a game you like" - an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire who's in the Royal Shakespeare Company and wins awards for his stage performances, no less - then...
The fuck does that have to do with pointing out the guy massively overreacted?
My comment was a reply to your comment replying to the hypothetical situation described above. The point of my comment is that not only is being told by your idol that your hobby is boring not really a tragedy worth of the Bard, but furthermore if you choose your idol based on one small thing he did that he probably wouldn't even list among the achievements of his illustrious career, then your perspective is even more skewed.
And of course, I said all that. You're totally not infering stuff I never said.
I don't see where I told you what you said. I was following up on your reaction to the hypothetical scenario with a related reaction of my own. The comment you just replied to is one where I clarified what I said. I am only responsible for the content of my own comments.
Could you make that prose less purple and more understandable please? I literally have no idea what you mean by it.
If a renowned stage actor is your "idol" because of one role he took in a video game, then don't be shocked if he's dismissive of your hobby.
Gosh, I've never had someone so angry that I agreed with them.
I never said he was my idol. As far as I could tell you just started rambling at length for no apparent reason.
