I wonder how they would react if I said I was developing racist feelings towards white people because not a day goes by where I'm not called lazy, violent, stupid, and rude by the good folks at reddit. I'm not, because that would be stupid, but I imagine the whole thread would be filled with people saying how wrong it is to generalize such a large group of people. Fuck this place sometimes.

The usage of prejudice isn't entirely stupid. With a common definition of insanity, I'd say it can be practical as long as you don't mind being wrong a small percentage of the time. For example, my interns have proven to abuse certain rules and freedoms at work. I restrict those now for interns until they prove themselves mature enough. I think you can generalize that to your average redditor without being stupid.

So black people are like immature interns who need their freedoms taken away because it should be assumed that they will abuse it until they can prove otherwise to the white people, who are the supervisors who get to decide if the black people have earned their privileges? I am hoping you see how racist this is.

I do realize how your case is racist but that is not what said or implied.

I simply claimed the usage of prejudice isn't entirely stupid and sometimes it can be appropriate to generalize. Einstein's definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. To an extent, my claim is that attributing generalized characteristics to anonymous people on the internet isn't "stupid" - it can practical, reasonable, and time-saving.

In college, I worked in an environment where the vast majority of the time I was working with people black people and was consistently lied to because it had to do with their class attendance as athletes. I eventually operated assuming they were lying to me until proven otherwise. I'm not extrapolating that "all black people are liars" just that operating with certain prejudices isn't always the wrong thing to do nor stupid.

>just that operating with certain prejudices isn't always the wrong thing to do nor stupid.

I should probably do that with white college grads where I work. I'll assume they're entitled assholes that want everything handed to them and won't hire them. Smart move, right?

Keep extrapolating - I've never brought up race. I'm not advocating breaking the law which your hiring practice would do, but operating with the assumptions new college grads are entitled and need to earn their stripes would be completely reasonable no?

I'm just gonna assume all white people are racist from now on.

With the context that this is reddit and people are anonymous jerks, I don't find this at all suprising.

So then you would have prejudice against athletes, not African American students?

I was prejudice against athletes yes. I assumed they could not be honest about their attendance. And you are correct, not African American students.

Okay so then you would say all athletes, regardless of background, and not just black athletes?

> I was prejudice against athletes yes. I assumed they could not be honest about their attendance.

Not clear?
