2048 is an inferior ripoff clone of Threes! which came out a couple weeks earlier.

I have both and while very similar, they are significantly different in gameplay.

Threes is much more challenging while 2048 is a lot easier and requires less intense concentration.

Both are good for different reasons.

Except one is a blatant clone that steals revenue from the other. This is Flappy Bird all over again.

Revenue? 2048 is free with no ads.

That doesn't really matter. You're playing a clone instead of the original, taking revenue away from the actual developer who actually came up with the idea.

I still don't see how he's stealing revenue. The game was purely advertised by word of mouth and from what I can see Threes doesn't have ads either.

Threes is a paid app, which people aren't buying thanks to the recent glut of clones. How difficult is it to see that one is blatantly stealing from the other?

So if I buy the store-brand soda, I'm stealing from Coke?

Coke has been around since the 19th century. Threes came out two months ago. Your comparison doesn't really work.

I see. But if I had bought store-brand soda in 1895, that would have been wrong.

The guy made it for fun on github and it became really popular. It's not his fault...

I prefer 2048. Who cares which one came first? Play the one you like

I'm pretty sure that the developer that came up with the idea first cares. People should support the developer, not the lecherous copycats that ride the coat tails.

As I said, I prefer 2048. Therefor, i'll support the dev that makes the game that I prefer. I don't get what you're making such a big deal over. Every video game since pong has had clones. Get over it.

Like it or not, freemium apps are more popular than paid apps.

. 2048 isn't even freemium it's just straight up free as it has no ads and no in game currency.

If the dev of threes couldn't see tht then it's his fault.

> If the dev of threes couldn't see tht then it's his fault.

Couldn't see what, that someone would wholesale steal his idea and fob it off as their own? It doesn't matter how much it is, a scummy clone is still a scummy clone, and it shouldn't be an issue that developers with actual talent should have to be wary of if Apple and Google gave two shits about their developers.

They should have made their app free and if they wanted revenue, they put ads. Simple.

Well, aren't you a bastion of morality. Someone thinks of a neat idea for a game and instead of making it a freemium piece of shit like everyone else, they make it a cheap honest paid app. But you, and thousands of other ignorant and stingy fuckers like you that can't be bothered to pony up the modest £1.50 to buy the game, all flock to the nearest cheap ripoff. Fuck you, and fuck anyone else defending the mobile gaming industry like this.

Wow, you really need to chill out, like take a toke of something that get's you high and really chilled out, cause I'm looking at what your saying and all I see is an angry spiteful little person.

Why are you getting so heated over this? Is there some underlying insecurity that is making you write these things? Do you have some crazy idea that because you paid for an app, your somehow better than everyone who... got the free app?

Perhaps you actually feel ripped off that you had to pay for something everyone else got for free and instead of just admitting it you're trying to make it look like they are in the wrong...It's not working.

I wasn't defending freemium apps or even saying I prefer them. I'm saying the truth in that they're the way to get your app downloaded.

Now since I'm an ignorant piece of shit apparently, can you tell me how you win, on Threes?

Yeah! no-one play CoD or BF because they are just a rip off of doom!

Seriously? That's the best strawman you could come up with? CoD and BF are vastly different products that are the result of over two decades in the genre. 2048 is a cheap ripoff that came out two months after the original, and adds nothing to the original other than having no price tag. Even the developer of 2048 admits he's scum and that he stole the idea from Threes.

He stole the idea of sliding tiles with numbers. He changed around the numbers, changed the platform. Created the game from scratch. Sliding tile puzzles are not new. The gameplay is different.

Just because something is the original doesn't make it better. Just because something is heavily inspired by something else doesn't mean it has no right to exist. Dota, LoL and Smite all exist. No-one screams "OMG, CLONE!". GTA and SR both exist. CoD and BF. Starcraft and CnC and Supreme Commander.

Actually there was a fair amount of people complaining that Saints row was just a GTA clone when it first hit the scene. And it pretty much was. And LoL and Dota are clones of a warcraft 3 mod, and you'll find plenty of brouhaha about that as well. But at the end of the day people still pick their sides and play whatever game they prefer.

I was playing threes like crazy, but 2048 has a slightly different mechanic when making a move that for some reason I like way more. I've been hooked on it ever since

Funny how Cloning is Bad when King.com does it, but when it's 2048, it's okay.
