Considering their criticism appears to be unbelievably personal and not at all based on anything stylistic, I'm gonna have to side with the upset one. That thread was on unbelievably sexist and showed a level of entitlement to have women all look the way you want them that I've never ever seen before.
Can you genuinely imagine them reacting the same way to a woman posted that she will be dumping her boyfriend if he grows any facial hair that she personally does not approve of or does not get his haircut exactly to her specifications every single month? They'd be screaming about their own ability of self-determination and how dare a woman suggest that her personal belief of what is attractive should determine any man's action

Personally I find it really un attractive. Very rarely have I seen an attractive women with short hair.
There's nothing wrong with saying "I like x on a women" and it's not sexist to say that type of stuff. We all have things were attracted to and things that are un attractive to us.
Would I break up with my gf if she cut her hair short? No. Would I find her less attractive? Yup. And there's nothing wrong with that, you can't go against human nature and pretend like you like something you don't.

There are tons of threads on /r/AskWomen or /r/sex where women say they're not attracted to short guys and none of their friends are either. Or they just don't like small penises and none of their friends do either. Guys complain and we ALWAYS criticize those guys for complaining about those women's preferences, as we should. You shouldn't get so upset about someone's preferences unless they're directly insulting you. Nothing up there is an insult no matter how much you want to characterize it like that. It's all a description of their own personal preferences. Perhaps they've overstepped their bounds saying most men like long hair because they really don't know but that's hardly "vitriol."

Not only is the quote you're referencing not the highest upvoted comment like you said it was, it doesn't even mean the same thing that you've said it does. It's talking about the fact that she felt upset by two top-level comments expressing a personal dislike for short hair even though other top-level comments express a preference for it. No one cares if she has short hair or not. They're not going to be in a relationship with her. They're talking about their own preferences.

There are reasons for preferences and people are asking about them.
Short hair makes him think of a dude. It was put bluntly, a reference to his own associations. How else should he put it?
"I don't want to have sex with a short hair girl because it makes me feel slightly more like I am having sex with a dude".
Same for the guy who said it was a man-boy haircut. It's blunt and to the point. But people want to know what these men think.

They're saying that the reason she's arguing against them and saying that short hair is attractive to everyone is because she has short hair. Hence their rationalizing comments.
They're saying that THEY find short hair unattractive. No one in there said "every single guy hates short hair". That's the entire issue, she's trying to convince people that don't find short hair attractive that it's actually attractive.
