Why do we stay? (self.SRSWomen)

I guess this SRS itself wasn't the appropriate place to post this, and I hope it isn't appropriate to post this here either, but here it goes.

Sometimes I wonder why I even stay on Reddit at all. I've noticed these days, I mostly either browse SRS, or go to the comments section of posts just to find the parade of shit that lies within.

It's made me a much more bitter person and I find myself trusting people (mostly men, or boys rather) less and less in real life. My reasoning for this is that people "take of their masks" on the internet and show their true selves, so I get paranoid/pissed off and assume a lot of people are veiled assholes/mysoginists/bad human beings.

However I am also conflicted. Reddit is becoming more and more of a hub for horny, frustrated 15 year-olds and neckbeards to vent their frustrations about the world. Surely they can't represent the majority?

It's all confusing.

Anyways my friends have noticed that lately I have been an angrier/more cynical person, and have also noticed that it's mostly because I read so much negative stuff on Reddit and it skews my opinion of real life people.

So why do I/we stay?

Does the anonymity of the internet represent the true sides of people or of a vocal minority?

Sorry for the rant guys.

I totally understand your rant and it's completely correct! You are not alone in the least.

When i started surfing here about 2 years ago, i did not notice as much as i do now. (maybe i was swept up by the amount of content?)

But, these days it's just bonkers stupid and i can't un-see all the shit.

I don't understand how so many people can be so damn blind to their own advantages. It feels like they think that as a gay trans single feminist that i am literally the most advantageous demographic there could possibly be because all these anti-discrimination laws talk about me! When all one has to do is walk outside spend a day with me and notice that it's almost completely the opposite (unless they're a complete sociopath).

I am LITERALLY only here because there is nowhere else to go that isn't blocked where i work.

Also in response to >Does the anonymity of the internet represent the true sides of people or of a vocal minority?

This is something that frustrates me so much. People say "anonymity brings out the worst kinds of people". But, it's the same people who are walking around IRL. They DO think these things, they're just fucking liars and don't talk about it.

If I start to feel too bad I stay out of srsD and prime for a while. The community here is great, and if needed one can avoid the reddit BS.

I'm here because Fark is worse. Strangely enough, almost all of the Farkers I know are great people in real life.

Fark.com, news aggregator. I used to hang out on TotalFark, under a different name.
