Is there anything worse then when cyclists try to justify breaking the law?
The most often excuse I hear for running a red light or stop sign is "well I can see traffic better from a bike and if there's no one coming I can just cross"
This Is absolute horse shit. When I drive I know if there's cars crossing a red light I'm stopped at but at no point do I decide to zoom past it even if it's 3am at night and there's no cars near me.
If cyclists wanna be accepted on the streets then they have to stop being assholes, maybe it is only 5% of cyclists who ride like shit but that 5% makes 80% of drivers hate cyclists.
as a cyclist myself I can't stand when people do it.
my experience is that they're a minority, but pretty sizeable.
I live in Phoenix. Please don't ride your bike here.

It always pisses me off when other cyclists ride like they have equal rights as cars on the road. Even though this is legally the case, if a car hits you the car gets a scratch and you might be heading to your final resting place.
Hummer... meet Prius.
I will admit that I have ran a stop sign or two on my bike. But if I get a ticket for it, I can't really bitch about it.

You just poured out the popcorn and turned up the heat.... right here in SRD.
SRD is being brigaded by butthurt cyclists. Hilarious!
They should consider purchasing more comfortable bike seats.
I hear the Sybian bike seats have some new models.
It was all a clever ruse to maximize butt hurt
Mwahahahahh
When people drive cars, they're supposed to respect the fact that they're inside a two-three ton hunk of metal careening down the road at high speed.
So, really, I think cyclists should respect the fact they're sitting unprotected on top of toilet paper tubes on channels filled with said metal killing machines. If anything, it's more important that they follow the rules, because if a car hits you, believe me he's gonna fare better than you. Defensive riding becomes a matter of not dying.
Not only that but if an asshole driver does end up hitting you and you take it to court. Then the rules of driving will be at play.
So the driver can say "well the biker ran a red light and I dint see him and accidentally hit him".
The asshole driver will get hit with a slap on the wrist over anything major.
Wait so the cyclist fucks up by not obeying rules of the road and the person in the car is an asshole?
It's like cars are buses and bikers are cars... It doesn't fucking matter who has the right-of-way if your skull is in pieces over someone's hood

It's mostly to preserve momentum and not have to switch gears, especially when going uphill.

Hmm... I don't know, I can think of a few things that might be as bad, maybe even slightly worse!
Literally every car driver has broken the speed limit at some point. Cars put other people in danger, not just the driver. Try to find a driver that won't justify speeding. But nah, you're right, it's nowhere near as bad if the person is on a two-wheeled human-powered vehicle.
'They break the law, so I should too.'
Also, since when is running stop signs anywhere near comparable to speeding?
do you actually think a bike running a stop sign is more dangerous than a car speeding? paul walker and the other 10,000 people who die a year from auto accidents related to speeding (in the US alone) might disagree, if they were still around.
Yes going 10 over the speed limit is definitely worse then running stop signs and red lights.
And you know what drivers call drivers who drive like shit and speed all around? "Fucking assholes". Seriously just because drivers go above the speed limit it doesn't mean your suddenly allowed to run red lights and stop sign.
STOP TRYING TO JUSTIFY YOUR SHITY BEHAVIOUR ASSHOLE.
Iv almost hit 2 cyclists running red lights where iv had to slam on the breaks. Do you think that shits fun? You're breaking the law and almost getting yourself killed but I'm the asshole right?
At the end of the day I'm driving a big vehicle that's gonna go right thru you while your driving a bike that won't even dent a good car. So you should be the one following the laws that keep you safer. Not breaking them and calling the rest of us dicks.
Well next time a biker passes me at 75 on the interstate I'll give him a pass just for you.
On the other hand I'll continue to refer to all red light/stop sign runners as assholes until then. Bike or car.
Those two wheeled human powered vehicles fucking hurt when they hit you because the human powering them decided that stop signs are beneath their enlightened bicycle riding selves.
Yeah, cyclists definitely don't put anyone else in danger by ignoring stop signs or lights. Especially not pedestrians.
if you think blowing a red light in a car is equivalent to blowing a red light in a bike, you're a fucking moron. i get that cyclists should obey the law in crowded intersections at rush hour, but anyone stopping their bike at a deserted stop sign is just... lame, and wasting their time.
Whys it different Brah? It's 3am at night, not a single car around me. I'm stopped at a red light. I look left, then right. There are no cars coming.
Why can't I just be a biker and cross the red light? What makes it so much different?
cars weigh thousands of pounds more, go much faster, are much less agile, and obstruct the operators vision/hearing...
Yeah fuck the fact you're riding on a tooth pick in comparison to drivers. People like you have almost martyred yourself on my car several times in the past few years. Respect the traffic rules for your safety and others.
i've never come remotely close to being hit by a car, and i biked to work for years and blew every stop sign i could. sounds like you've encountered some poor bikers, but that doesn't mean you should unilaterally condemn blowing stop signs on a bike as if that is the problem; it is often not dangerous at all.
You know drunk drivers try to justify their dangerous behavior using the same crappy "I'm special and different" than anyone else logic too and it's just as invalid here as it is there. I don't care if you're a stunt biking pro you don't break basic traffic laws because it's a basic safety issue.
