Yeah, nothing discredits you faster than saying "mulatto".
I don't say mulatto personally, but isn't it more outdated than explicitly racist? More like oriental than the intentional slurs.
I love the way you people try to pretend that nothing in the world is racist if it doesn't involve a burning cross and a Klan hood. The poster called him a mulatto messiah. Why add the extra word? What purpose does that serve aside from being a racist dogwhistle? We only have one president at the moment, it's not like we needed an extra help identifying who the poster was referring to.
Oh, for fuck's sake. Not everyone is going to be familiar with how every word or phrase falls on the racism meter. I didn't know the word was considered particularly racist, I thought people stopped using it because it was old-fashioned and hinted at that period's racism. The phrase under discussion was certainly racist, but that was inferred from context, rather than knowing that the word was enough all on it's own. TIL that it's apparently up there with "colored". I remember once talking to a hardcore progressive fellow who had no idea the phrase "cotton pickin' minute" had racist connotations, but he grasped the connection quickly when it was pointed out. Jumping down someone's throat for asking for clarification doesn't make you a brave warrior against racism, it just makes you an asshole.

What I mean by "you people" is smug redditors who consider themselves the final authority on what is and is not racist and surprise surprise have come to the conclusion that absolutely nothing they say or do ever is.
If you can't tell that "mulatto messiah" was intended to be racist as everloving fuck then you are either impossibly dense or deliberately obtuse, and I've run out of patience with either.
EDIT: The guy who called him the mulatto messiah is calling him Obongo now. Is that transparently racist enough, or do we have to have an hour long debate on what's so racist about that next? Do you see how this is exhausting? Absolutely nothing, no matter how transparently racist, can possibly be said on reddit without some asshole saying "wait, how is that racist, explain it to me" and a hundred other assholes pretending that guy has a legitimate question and isn't just derailing the hell out of the conversation.
