Tired of the "If this redditor snaps" posts. (self.GunsAreCool)

Can we please title these in a different manner? I love firearms, and i'm sure everyone else here loves them as well. Due to the current state of the country looking for every reason to make them illegal, etc, these titles of: If I were to snap, look how many guns I have, and how many people I could shoot.. are really disconcerting. It just seems we could title them differently, like "Hey, check out my awesome collection. Shiny?" Just my two cents.

they are not in my monkey sphere. So I can say that I wish them well, but really I don't. Just like none of us give a shit about the kids in Africa or a homeless guy who might be walking outside your front door.

It's impossible to truly care for anyone outside your monkey sphere (which is up to or around 100 people)

>Suicide: as long as they don't take their wife/kids with them, then that's fine by me

Considering the epidemic of suicide among Iraq/Afghanistan veterans:

Fuck you.

you read the part about how humans are incapable of caring for more than 100-150 or so people that we have close social contact with right?

I think you are confused. I can only love a small circle of people its true, but (unless you are a Ayn Rand'er), that does not mean we should not be concerned about the welfare of greater society.

It is impossible to be concerned about the welfare of 7 billion people. You could not have a regular job, pay bills and be concerned 100%

we are both at a level less than 100%...I'm just a lower % than you

Look I don't like how cavalier he's being about this, either, but the rules apply to everyone...not just the gun nuts who visit here. No personal attacks, please.

I'm going to start calling you "scientist". Look everyone, Mr. Askscience has developed an empirical theory called Monkey Sphere-ism.

What does that have to do with empathy for society? Is that why people donate to the hundreds of thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims they don't know? Or make laws that reflect a policy of keeping others from harm? Quite a specious application of Dunbar's Monkey Sphere, Dr. Tromboni.

Empathy for society, sure but they are just words and fleeting thoughts.

How can you care about all the tragedies in a world with 7 billion people? You just can't.

Why just hurrican Katrina..why not the natives who are killing themselves in Nunuavut huffing spray paint. The list of tragedies world wide is too big to comprehend.

I do what I am biologically supposed to do...care and worry about my family, close friends and the community I live in. I can't spend time worrying or pretend to worry about suicides in other parts of the world.

Making laws doesn't solve problems. Politicians just get to pat themselves on the back and say good job old chap. If you want to solve a problem it is hard, and takes technology, education, awareness and a number of other things. Making something illegal does zero to solve problems.

Making guns seems to be working well in Britain. What did they have, 50 gun murders last year? If they had our gun laws and gun ownership rate, all things being equal and adjusting for population side, they would have had 2,000.

If you reverse those figures, and give the United States British gun laws, we would go from 8,500 gun homicies to ~190. So laws don't help? Sure about that, Dr. Tromboni? Mr. "I Enjoy The Safety Of Canadian Gun Laws and My Life Is Backed by Guaranteed Universal Healthcare Law?" Making laws don't solve problems? Perhaps if you imported American style gun laws and healthcare laws you would think twice.

I don't want to end up on subredditdrama, but for fucks sake man.

You can't say that if the laws of Britain or Canada were implemented in the US blah blah.

They are different cultures exposed to a myriad of different history and education and propoganda and media.

In your world, if guns are the problem, then you need to get rid of guns...make them non existent.

Not a piece of paper that says they are illegal...that does not solve the problem.

SOLVING THE PROBLEM MEANS GETTING RID OF THE PROBLEM.

making termites illegal does not solve the problem of having termites

Tromboni, I get into this like 15-20 times a day. Talking about this with you is like going to the batting cages with a friend.
