/r/PCmasterrace banned, this will surly not have any consequential drama at all. (self.SubredditDrama)

Subreddit /r/PCmasterrace has (among other things) been banned after interfering with other subs.

Mod Cupcake explaining the ban.

There was already some back and forth going on about PC's not being allowed to be posted on /r/gaming because it's not gaming related.

Of course this anti PC vibe din't sit well with /r/PCmasterrace seeing as pictures of consoles where just fine, and thus some drama was born.

Hold on to your TF2 hats guys, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

New subs that are getting made:

r/gloriouspcmasterrace

r/ultimatepcmasterrace

r/pcmasterrace2

r/pcmasterracerebooted

r/praisegaben (I just assumed this one would exist)

/r/gaben

(I'm going to stop adding links to new subs)

EDIT 1:

KarmaCourt Moderator post about the subject.

More Context about the ban here (thanks to /u/jamiew0w)

Heres my comment. Why do reddit admins hold whole communities responsible for the actions of a few assholes? Why don't they just ban the doxxers and vote brigaders? I mean any troll can go into a community and pretend to be a part of that community and get the whole subreddit banned.

And if the answer is "because we can't find them"...... I don't really get it. I mean the community was a criclejerk in no way focused on vote brigading and doxxing. Seems like sterotyping.

TIL that if I want to get a subreddit banned all I have to do is pretend to be a member and doxx a mod of a default subreddit.

He was very anti PC.
To give an example someone posted a picture of a gaming PC and he deleted it saying it was not gaming related and he could be doing taxes on it. While there are pictures of just a PS4 on the front page. That picture being banned was really what started the chain of events in PCMaster Race.

Assuming it was him, I liked /u/Thorse, mostly because of his idealism of what /r/gaming could be. He stuck to his guns and I appreciate it. We had a few amicable conversations. However, he did sometimes charge innocents with breaking the first rule, which did not endear him to a lot of folks.

And there are a lot of folks over in /r/gaming.

So, in a big way, can't this all be a lesson to that specific mod that shit like this happens when you let your ego bar you from rationality/fairness/nonbias?

The internet is full of real people. Not AI. Not NPC's. People. Here on Reddit... there are lots of them. You have no idea who they really are. By modding a subreddit, it kind of sounds lame, but in all actuality you have a degree of power.

That mod abused his power in narrow self interest. And now, these are the natural repercussions. They aren't right... but this is what happens.

It sucks all around. But my entire point is that I can totally see that mod as getting through all this with an ego and not accepting any overarching blame. That's not good, and it'll lead to shit like this again.

Yes, it should be the lesson for anyone who thinks they're smug enough to anger others on the internet. I regularly call to their local police forces and pretend to be them, telling them I have a bomb and have committed murder. The police understand that it's just the natural repercussions of being a dick on the internet that they have to go in and possibly kill this person. (If taken unaware, he could have made the mistake of trying to fight or defend himself, which could easily have gotten him shot in that kind of high tension situation.)

It's how the internet should work - and it certainly taught that mod a lesson about not liking PC gamers!

To be fair, the "PC MASTER RACE" shit has been getting really out of hand lately. In any sort of thread about consoles, they would come in and make comments like "FILTHY CONSOLE PEASANTS" with loads of upvotes. It stopped being a joke a long time ago and has become one of the biggest circlejerks on Reddit. I think the mods/admins are trying to slow it down, because it's really become a problem in /r/gaming and one of the major reasons it's such a shithole.

lol DAE SRS and Violentacrez? One sub with 45k subscribers gets banned because it's not the other 45k subscriber tumblr paradise sub that does nothing but harass redditors, doxx people on tumblr, and interfere with other subreddits.

http://en.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/1hbi5x/rniggers_banned/casqk7g?context=3

This was one of the more ridiculous subreddit ban explanations by an admin. The admins really just run and gun when it comes to administering their rules and don't really have any that are written in stone; it's pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

Violentacrez wasn't doxxed by SRS. He was revealed by Adrian Chen of Gawker.

A 10 second google search could have cleared that up for you.

How did Adrian Chen find out? Violentacrez freely identified himself at reddit meetups.

I'm starting to think SRS has become the bogeyman of reddit. Literally blamed for anything that goes bad.

There is still a hope for Reddit if we finally decide that no longer can we safely blind our eyes and close our ears to those facts which are shaping up more and more clearly. And that is that we are now engaged in a show-down fight. Not the usual war between subreddits for karma or subscribers, but a war between two diametrically opposed ideologies.

The great difference between our normal, free-speech valuing sane world and the feminazi Tumblrite SRSter world is not political, gentlemen, it is moral. The fempire proposes that to be moral is to agree with their oversensitive interpretation of acceptability. Despite passing themselves off as arbiters of morality, they are the nastiest and most vitriolic people on Reddit, invading the "poop" comments they link and trying to down out dissent.

The Archangelles resolute putting across of their ideas, of course, did much to divide this site. Without their blind followers screaming out and sowing discord, subreddits of all kinds could live in peace.

The real, basic problem of SRS, however, lies in their religion of fake oppression, invented by feminists and the PC police, preached feverishly by Tumblr, and carried to unimaginable extremes by the Archangelles. This religion of fake oppression, if the SRS part of Reddit triumphs- and well it may- this religion of false outrage will more deeply wound and damage discourse and free speech than any conceivable brigade.

Andrea Dworkin dismissed all straight white "cis" men as oppressors, and the Archangelles have added in clear-cut, unmistakable language their resolve that no subreddit, no users who reject their toxic dogma, can exist side by side with them.

The Archangelles, for example, expelled people from the fempire for mentioning such things as rape jokes, racist jokes, and even "ableism." They called this “mangry ravings” and “fucking disgusting neckbeards pooping out through their keyboards."

Can there be anyone who is so blind as to say that the war is not on? Can there by anyone who fails to realize that the SRSters have said the time is now? That this is the time for the show-down between the democratic who care about the right to free speech and the radical, PC dissent-stiflers?

The reason why we find ourselves in a position of impotency is not because our only powerful potential enemy has sent SRSers to brigade on our turf, but rather because of the traitorous actions of those who have been treated so well by this community. They sympathize with SRS and seek to protect it, bowing to their pressures and whims in a pathetic attempt to garner approval.

This is glaringly true in /r/subredditdrama. There the mods who claim so loudly to be neutral have been the most traitorous in supporting SRS's cause.

I have here a list of hundreds of users, list of names that are made known to us as being members of the fempire and who nevertheless are still invading and trying to shape outside subreddits.

As you know, very recently a former mod of SRD /u/DaemonofMail proclaimed his loyalty to the fempire. With this list you can tag secret SRSters like him and find them in the wild, disproving them when they claim not to be part of SRS.

His and other SRD mods pandering to SRS has lit the spark which is resulting in an uprising and will end only when the whole sorry mess of twisted, warped thinkers are swept from the scene so that we may have a new birth of free speech and decency on Reddit.

A guy from the-opposite-of-SRS /r/MensRights got banned outright for linking to a page talking about the doxxing of Femitheist one year ago, because the page mentioned her real name. The massive support SRS had for the doxxing and harassment of Violentacrez certainly should've meant something.

And yes, it's still doxxing. When the article itself calls it "unmasking", it's still doxxing. And even if it wasn't, the intent for people to cause harassment was undeniable anyway.

Better question: why do the Admins not make stickied warnings in the subreddits saying "If you keep doing this, you'll get banned"?

Really, the smart approach is to make a sticky thread about it. It's only when people reply with stuff like 'first amendment' or 'don't tell me what to do' that it's not just the work of a few, and actually follow through with the ban.

/r/pcmasterrace actually did their best to clean the community up.

Anytime another subreddit was linked if it was not a np link it was deleted. You cant possible expect a mod to prevent someone from bypassing the np link and flaming and doing some searching to find personal information. That is like saying 1 guy shot someone in city X, time to throw the mayor in prison.

The Mod seems to provided Reddit HQ with the name of Police Sergeant and the Department. If the Mod is faking then giving Reddit HQ that information would prove him as a fraud in minutes. I think the Admins would have at least have done the due diligence of following up on that. That is if the police have not already contacted them.

Unsubstantiated accusations are also something pretty serious.

I could say someone on reddit was responsible for 9/11. Doesn't make it true, and doesn't mean we should shut down the website over it.

Though, through the transitive property of overreacting, I think we should shut down reddit, because someone on the website went around doxxing, and that's against the rules.

There's a difference between accusing somebody of a crime that took place eleven years ago and has already (for the most part) been solved in the eyes of the nation, and saying that somebody is a dangerous criminal who has killed somebody and intends to kill/harm others... Your analogy is not very good.

Ok, saying that someone on reddit was responsible for Benghazi, then?

Or perhaps we could just say that somewhere, someone is doing something that we don't agree with, so we should just shut the whole website down, because we don't agree with that sort of thing?

> someone is doing something that we don't agree with, so we should just shut the whole website down, because we don't agree with that sort of thing?

Whether banning the subreddit was overkill or not, there is a huge difference between 'not agreeing with something somebody is doing' and actively putting their life and reputation at risk. The cops take those types of threats seriously, and are a dangerous waste of police resources.

This isn't some guy who bought milk from a dairy cow instead of soy milk where people can bitch about him making a choice they don't like--this is serious harassment and a type of conflict that Reddit doesn't stand for. Not to dox is one of their very few rules, and it was broken along with the heavily implied 'don't use that information to convince the police to break down their door'.

My post from last thread:

This is stupid. PCMasterRace is a circlejerk subreddit dedicated to PC gaming. Anyone with half a brain can tell that it's about as serious as /r/onetruegod. Why the fuck would it get banned?

EDIT: After the initial report to /r/redditrequest was sent in it was deleted a few minutes later. What. The. Actual. Fuck.

SECOND EDIT: Admins from Reddit have gotten back from me. Apparently it's [Not saying his name because I don't want more brigading] after all. When he got doxxed some moron decided it would be funny to call the police and pretend to be him and say he had committed various crimes. Because of this (and various brigading related offenses) /r/pcmasterrace has been banned.

ONE LAST THING!

TO ALL THE MORONS CURRENTLY BRIGADING AGAINST THE MOD IN QUESTION, FUCKING STOP IT!

THE ADMINS HAVE BASICALLY SAID THAT BECAUSE OF THIS WE'RE VERY UNLIKELY TO GET OUR SUB BACK AND MOST OF THE SPINOFF SUBS ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE BANNED.

Just checked a number of dictionaries, genocide does indeed require killing. Most common definitions seem to include this essential idea of "The systematic and widespread extermination or attempted extermination of an entire national, racial, religious, or ethnic group."

Your comparison isn't even close to being a reality because those who hold the opinion that "PCs are better than other gaming consoles" aren't even being banned. How is it ANYTHING like a genocide?

Not to mention this will hardly kill PC gaming culture, and is hardly systimatic and widespread. Thus under either defination it's overreaction and wrong.

There was a mod (two actually) from /r/gaming who antagonized /r/pcmasterrace. I'm not even saying that to make the actions some idiots from the sub took look good, the mods literally antagonized the sub. They unofficially banned almost all PC related content from /r/gaming, banned any users who asked them about it and sent spam messages in response, and even made a post on /r/pcmasterrace that /r/circlejerkcopypasta fell in love with.

In response a few idiots started brigading against the mods in question and one of them got doxxed.

Also, according to the admins as soon as the banhammer fell spinoff subs sprung up that started brigading against said mods even harder.

>It's stupid that the mods are still mods, since after how immaturely they behaved I wouldn't trust them to mod anything, but thats life.

Nah, they still definitely have the rights to be mods (King of your castle and all that), but the actions seem like they could be defined as variations on brigading. I guess the only stickler is that PC gaming is part of gaming culture...

  • [-]
  • hilltopper06

  • 23:04:49, 18 November

This. Doxxing was stupid, and the moron who called the police is even more stupid. But the /r/gaming mod was being an absolute child before it ever got to that point. If PC gaming content had been allowed on /r/gaming in the first place, then it doesn't get this far. It doesn't excuse the few bad apples from /r/pcmasterrace, they certainly deserve whatever ban and/or legal action is heading their way. But tossing out a 45,000 sub community based of the actions of a few is not the solution.

>"You can't post pictures of PC hardware because your PC might just be used for Tax returns"

Was the reason used to disallow the original post in question.....this would be a PC which had a pretty beefy GPU in it. Obviously bigger GPU is just for filling in your tax returns quicker and like, browsing the internet and shit! Might have been a better idea to just let one PC hardware thread pass, instead of intentionally antagonizing a troll subreddit for, I dunno, shits an giggles.

It does however make for interesting reading on SubReddit Drama, so, all in all, I would have to approve of the moderators actions! :V

Basically, what it takes to get any Subreddit banned is to pretend to be a member of their community, and then doxx a mod of another Subreddit that the Subreddit you're claiming to represent has a problem with.

Which is hilarious, and I fully expect /r/subreddit drama to get more interesting!

What does this even mean? He deleted a picture of a PC, then got tired of the masterrace crowd raging about it and got pissed. I don't really agree with him deleting the picture in the first place, but the PCmaterrace reaction was beyond absurd. If its a "joke" subreddit, why are people going full retard nerdrage mode over it?

And honestly, the PCmaster race crowd is incredibly annoying and toxic on /r/games. They contribute nothing, and every thread is full of highly upvoted comments like "Praise GabeN" or "Peasants." If they want to have a satire sub great, but keep that shit out of other subs. You don't see people from /r/onetruegod flooding /r/movies with annoying, unfunny jokes.

Good riddance.

If the police believe you've already killed someone and you're ready to kill more, they will send in a tactical team with little hesitation to shoot. If the mod was caught offguard and tried to defend himself, it's not far-fetched that the team would have shot him.

Fucking ridiculous. This sort of reminds me of the /r/dota2 fiasco when some idiot called up /u/cyborgmatt and harassed him for something he had absolutely nothing to do with. >When submitting drama do not link to the full comments. Instead link directly to the comment tree containing the drama. If the comment you're linking to requires some context, add "?context=x" to the URL, where "x" is the number of parent comments you want displayed. If there are multiple drama threads create a self-post containing the relevant links. Exceptions may be made to this rule, however they must be submitted as self posts.

Not surprised, r/gaming has been getting hit hard but what these 2 did was obviously the straw that broke the camels back and used all other instances of harrassment, aka facts, as material to get the sub banned. That's fine.

That seems strange, It seems like basic drama,

Has Subreddit drama always been moderated like this?

...do I need to make a "drama on subreddit drama" post?

>Has Subreddit drama always been moderated like this?

I vaguely recall previous instances where a simple link to a subreddit ban page was also removed, so that there would be more info/context to the readers, but not positive.

The mods need to set up some sort of megathread about this drama.
