People really get defensive when you suggest that you view their use of recreational drugs as anything less than the best idea ever.

It's the sheer closed-mindedness of refusing to try a particular drug, even a tiny dose of it just to get a vague impression of what it's really like.

Yet again you don't need to do drugs to realize that they're not always good.

Ever hear of Krokidile? That shit literally causes your skin to rot and fall off.

But drugs are awesome, right? Shoot up some Krokadil and then I might concede your point.

And just so you know, I'm pro-legalization. I even voted for it.

I just don't want to do them myself.

Oh yes, and for the record. I have had bad drug experiences. I spent 3 months of my life super massivley hyped up on antidepressants that were legally perscribed. I won't even go back onto them. I'd rather face my life sober.

I wouldn't advise people to do LSD unless they were 100% invested in the idea. It's not a sampling drug. That shit lasts at least 8 hours.

How would a "tiny dose" even work? LSD is active at micrograms, and unless you're the dealer (they usually don't know either... lol double dipped) or have a vial you don't know the dosage you're getting anyway. I assume you're a rookie.

Shrooms aren't a sampling drug either. That lasts at least 6 hours, and the fun thing about fungus is, you could eat one cap and trip balls, or eat a whole eighth and feel nothing. Your ignorance is astounding.

I tried LSD once! And I've never been so frightened for so long in my life. If I could go back in time and not do it, I absolutely would. I would 100% rather be wondering to myself what that drug is like right now than actually knowing what it's "really like."

Drugs aren't for everyone. If you don't want to try a drug, don't try it. Don't let some douche pressure you into it in the interests of being "open minded."

As someone who does drugs, you're making it seem like you have to do drugs once in your life. Some people just don't wanna. Personally, I think certain drugs can be good in moderation. Weed, as well as certain psychedelics, can really make a person take a good hard look at him/herself as a person. You can be introspective without drugs too.

Ok, not really, but when I put it like that perhaps you can realize that it's OK to not want to do something that others do.

And frankly people with that attitude worry me, as I can see them easily dosing some straight edger up "Just so they know." Which is wrong on many many levels.

I think it's close-minded to try to generalise a drugs effects like some people in the thread are. In truth if you took acid once you not going to see swirling lines and dancing monkeys for the rest of your life. I'm not advocating LSD use for the masses but it seems like a lot of people are confusing it with heroin. I feel like psychadelic drugs are a personal choice but it's not close-minded to choose whether you want to experience them or not. It would be arrogance for one side to look at the other in judgment considering one of them has no understanding of the drug and the other one has no understanding of not having the drug.

Once, my dentist gave me way too much laughing gas. I was tripping so many balls. I could see into several dimensions, hear several different frequencies, see three different colors of purple, and I was totally convinced that some sort of vibrating bug alien overlords were going to drink my spinal fluid. Oh, and I couldn't move. So the tech called my name for what seemed like hours, but was really three minutes. Basically to ask if it was too much. And once they turned it down, they put a wrench in my head, cracked my tooth in half, and pulled a it out of my head in pieces.

So, no. I will not try hallucinogenics again. Ever.

They tried to numb my tooth, but it was so badly infected, I could still feel it.

That night, I dreamed the aliens vibrated out of the ceiling tiles in my bedroom and made pinpricks on the back of my neck. They told me they'd be back the next night to make them bigger. Thanks pain meds!

I don't have good experiences with drugs.

Same reason people get into arguments with people who own the other console, shop at the other store, wait on sex until marriage, practice religion, et al: they want validation, when someone does something different they get defensive and feel like they have to defend their choices.

People should just respect the life choices of others (like, say, not having kids, or not doing drugs, or waiting until marriage for sex, or whatever) but it seems to be a sticking point for a lot of folks.

Seriously when did the idea that everyone should "At least give it a try" become so common?

You have no idea. Someone posted a vid of a couple smoking salvia--the guy defenestrates himself while the girl twitches and moans like a zombie--and I made some snarky 'not even once' comment and people were just all over me :"Duuude. You're being narrow minded. It's not usually like that. Those people were just unqualified."

> One time I did acid, I got completely consumed by the idea that so many people around the world will reach their deathbeds never having exprienced the visions and feelings I was currently feeling, I felt incredibly sad that these people would never know what beauty and wonder was capable through such a simple process. I felt like I needed to tell someone, anyone and everyone what they were missing out on, what their brains were capable of, if they just opened their mind and accepted it. After some time I realized I had been staring at the lines and curves morphing within the palm of my hand, such detail but on such a familiar thing as my hand, something I've seen everyday of my life but under these specific conditions it was simply fascinating to me. I looked up, into the bathroom mirror, the face staring right back at me with these deep, black pupils that stretched on for an eternity it seemed, how could I look away when this person was giving me his full attention, studying the curves and textures of his face. But it was my face, it was me all along.

>> Cool. Meanwhile I'm actually being productive with my life here in the real world.

Best response in the whole thread.

Honestly just a complete oversimplification of the drug experience. It's meant for fun - but no fun allowed apparently, lest you waste your life. That viewpoint is frankly ignorant.

Y'know the real world.

I have nothing against video games (I play them from time to time), but if you're gonna make fun of someone for looking at his hand and admiring the detail instead of making a difference in "the real world" then you shouldn't be spending a good amount of your time playing video games.

Yo, I know where you coming from, but just think of it from like an objective viewpoint or whatever.

Okay, so say you take acid twice a month (a 2 week wait wait between lsd taking (12 hours) is more than likely)

And you play video games, every day for 3 days a week, which would be 21 days a week, times 7, which would be 84 hours a week, compared to 24 hours a month (2 times 12 hours, meaning 2 times a week times 12 hours). Y'know, I play video games a lot more than I've taken acid (about 5 times) so I feel like playing video games would put you out of reality more often than acid would.

It's chill though, I'm totally cool with you proving me wrong though, I won't be mad. This'll probably be what the future conversation is gonna be like.

I definitely understand how that argument can be made, but I think of it like this: I usually game for an hour or two, maybe three at a time, and I can shut down whenever I want. Acid, however, requires an 8 or 9 hour commitment. Also, the level of immersion with acid is waaay different than it is with games. I don't even think we can argue properly over the subject, the two things are just way to different.

  • 04:32:13, 10 November

Oh okay, dude. I understand.

I guess, I mean it's all about what we've experienced. Acid definitely does take a bigger time and mental commitment than video games, I'm just thinking in a purely like time standpoint.

Say even if you game 2 hours a day per month that'd still be around 60 hours while, I mean you can trip more than twice a week but it doesn't often happen, so say you trip twice a month it'd be about 60 hours a month.

I know it takes totally different mental capacities and you an quit at any time with video games, but with video games if you just compare it to lsd it takes a longer time per month than video games does, you get me?

I mean I understand with LSD you can't drive or I dunno, do anything that takes a lot of brain capacity with Acid, I'm just saying, the amount of time you're out of reality with video games is comparable or more than with acid.

Dude, bro, I'm not trying to be unclassy or whatever.

Alright hear me out, I'm just trying to say that if someone is going as far as to say put down another person and saying they live in the "real world" then they should probably do something good for themselves or whatever.

They shouldn't be playing video games all the time.

I mean I obviously understand that taking drugs a lot is obviously not good, but if you think of it objectively they probably take an equal-ish amount of time out of your real life.

I mean entertainment is taking you out of real life for some amount of time.

Oh okay, yeah. I can see that.

Alright, I totally get you, I mean it I don't totally agree with you saying I'm not classy after just one thing I've done, but bear with me.

Usually if I'm responding to someone I won't dig through their post history (I mean this time I completely expected someone to dig through mine and say that I'm a bad person or whatever)

But When I dug through their post I was only intending to show their hypocrisy in how we all have our vices, y'know?

Like someone might spend half their time playing cod while someone might spend half their time taking acid and staring at the wall.

I can see how that would be unclassy, but I just wanted to point out how we're all, well, I mean I wanted to point out we're all hyprocrites, but we all waste time in the "real world"...That's what wasting time is.

That's fine, but not all of us "Waste time" with illegal activities. Don't get me wrong, I was one of the people who voted to lealize pot and I do play a lot of video games.

It's just that I can not and will not respect someone who shows little to no respect for other people. That is what irked me the most about the topic at hand.

Oh dude, I wasn't trying to disrespect anyone with what I was saying. I totally apologize if I did.

Okay, well personally I think we should all be able to do what we want, like if you really want to snort coke or stay up watching marathons on netflix with Meth than you should be able to.

I think we should all be able to just do what we want.

I think we had a miscommunication, I, personally, wasn't trying to disrespect anyone, I was just trying to draw a parallel of what people legally do and what people illegally do.

Some guy named Steve Jobs took LSD once and said it was one of the defining moments of his life, but who cares what that goddamn hippie thinks.

Seriously I hate such dismissive crap, I really doubt Captain America up there really is making boatloads of cash or saving the world. Hell you can make the same dismissive argument about any work of Fiction or art, and we'd blast that as a STEM master race circle jerk.
