Probably not intended, but this comes across as mildly sexist due to specifically pointing out that it is males. This behavior is not exclusive to just males, people of every gender take part in this behavior (albeit not necessarily with games), especially during the Black Friday sales.

no im talking about the idea that misandry exists and that this post is "sexist" because it inverses the same things that men have said to women for centuries. like, come the fuck on

Saying that women can't be sexist against men is like saying that blacks and japanese can't be racist against whites. Just because things have been going on for centuries doesn't mean that they're right, and if all you want is for you to have a turn to swing the whip, then you're just as bad as past oppressors.

The problem with that argument is that is assumes everyone is on an equal playing field.

They're not. People of color can hold negative opinions of whites, and whites can hold negative opinions of people of color, but they are not equal in severity. And to call the former racism completely erases the entire history and context of the word racism.

In reality, women (and people of color and other minority populations) pick up the whip because men won't stop hitting them. For example: this subreddit would not exist if the gaming community wasn't hostile towards women.

>blacks and japanese can't be racist against whites

true

>Just because things have been going on for centuries doesn't mean that they're right

my point

>if all you want is for you to have a turn to swing the whip, then you're just as bad as past oppressors.

incorrect

To clarify: you're claiming that it's impossible for minorities to be racist against white people?

>incorrect

I'll agree with that only on the basis that it's equal in comparison to past oppressors. Wanting a turn to swing the whip is still bad. However, it's not as much since it wouldn't have occurred for as long.

That last sentence probably shows a deficit in morality on my part.

>blacks and japanese can't be racist against whites = true

False. I'm black, and I think that white people always blow things farther out of proportion than blacks do. Is that racist? Yes.

>Just because things have been going on for centuries doesn't mean that they're right = my point

You contradict yourself with the next one:

>if all you want is for you to have a turn to swing the whip, then you're just as bad as past oppressors. = incorrect

How so? Most of Aerik's posts are spewing hate at men and MRAs, and how women are constantly oppressed by men and how women should get a turn. And I mean most of their posts, not just a few. I see barely anything posistive on their 1st page of posts.

"spewing hate"? Really? Have you read anything on this sub or any other woman-centric sub? The "hate" is just as strong.

MRAs on Reddit are not actually fighting for men's rights, they're fighting to be white cis men. They care not for queer men, trans men, or even minority men. Their subReddit is full of hate and anger.

> Have you read anything on this sub

I have, but you must not have. A lot of the posts here highlight the problems that women in the gaming culture face. A lot of these posts don't spew hate. If you think this is just another hate sub, you're mistaken.

>or any other woman-centric sub?

/r/AskWomen is a great sub that doesn't spew hate either, so i'm pretty sure you're just talking out of your ass.

>MRAs on Reddit are not actually fighting for men's rights

No shit, all they seem to do is complain without ever actually doing anything useful.

You mean like how women also answer questions on /r/AskMen? Both subs have people from opposite genders who answer questions, and both subs have no problem with it because they aren't morons. hahahaaa

This is really not helping you when your intended target before any discussion is a specific group of people instead of addressing these concerns and finding solutions to the problems at hand...

Do you mean they must start with a targeted group to help if they intend to help at all?

  • [-]

I don't think the entire "us vs them" mentality is ever helpful.

It seems like people just pick a target and blame everything on it.

"The MRAs do this"

"The feminists say that"

"OMG, I'm oppressed and targeted!"

And what does it do but show more of a victim complex than is necessary?

Where's the enjoyment of female characters in gaming?

Where's the enjoyment of women in the gaming industry?

You don't do that when you go out to find a target for unnecessary aggression.

For example, in this thread, why are the MRAs even noteworthy? The only point that Raiden was making was that the OP was spouting on about them. No mention of "white cis men" or anything else. Going on about that stuff was entirely unnecessary. It doesn't help the situation and just steers this entire conversation towards the same nonsense about "feminism vs MRA" that hasn't progressed that conversation in a helpful manner at all.

lol. Yeah, making a big deal out of transphobia and racism is just creating a victim complex.

Thank you for that oh so invaluable contribution.

He looked through OPs comment history and labeled her a misandrist and claimed she'd been "spewing hate". I looked at some of her posts, wanting to be informed, and found that to not be true, based on the same things he saw. So, I pointed out the "hate" he's referring to is reflective of many sentiments the women here have when discussing women in gaming, female characters, etc. and the sexism and misogyny in the industry.

I brought up MRAs because he used her rallying against them as a point of contention. MRAs of Reddit are not intersectional nor proactive and are often hypocritical in their sentiments. He agreed.

MRAs are important here because many of them represent and push the very agenda and issues many of the people here ar against. I see this sub as a safe space and a plac for balanced discussion but when "misandry" is tossed at OP for no reason, it is acceptable to ask why.

We accept respectful people, you're talking circles around yourself and mistakenly ranting about "misandry" in a subReddit accepting of everyone but set-up for women.

It's the same reason AskWomen doesn't allow slurs and attacks.

Reading comprehension is dropping on reddit for some reason. I never said anything about this post being misandric. This post is hilarious. I made a judgement call about OP based on their history of bashing and hatred.

Being against MRAs does not equate to hating men. The MRA subreddit was part of a mass flooding of a college website with false rape reports to shut down their anonymous reporting system. (link) They care about men keeping a position of superiority, so when they're roasted and lambasted people make jokes about stealing the freedoms of men. They're jokes made at the expense of people who want women oppressed, needling at their baseless insecurities. Hell, Aerik himself is a man, I think it's safe to say he doesn't hate himself, nor have I seen him advocate men being in a position of subservience.

I love how idiots love to try and put words in people's mouths because they can't come up with a decent rebuttal. I've previously stated that the post was hilarious, and my assumptions about OP are from their post history. I didn't say anything negative about this subreddit in this thread. Gotta love that lack of reading comprehension.
