Woah woah woah...what? This is total bull shit. There's some obvious admin bias going on here towards SRS, what with keeping it around despite being an obvious brigade and silencing dissenters...can somebody reply to my message in about an hour? I want to remember to come back here.
Warning: Totally unfounded opinions ahead. Abandon hope all ye who enter here.
My guess is that it's because SRS attacks groups and people that are not politcally correct. In essence, they attack groups that would get reddit negative press. As such, SRS can get away with brigading because the brigading they do doesn't negatively impact the website's reputation. In fact, it may make the website look better (again, from a PC viewpoint). SRSs is a group that is diametrically opposed to SRS, and often will sypathize with the elements of the website that SRS attacks. That leaves them with the sorts of folks that run subs that get reddit in the news.
Again, totally unfounded and just my two cents.
I've also heard people suggest that if reddit shut down SRS, they would go to some news outlet or other complaining about how reddit shut down their bastion of fairness and equality and chose to keep [insert wildly offensive subreddits]. I don't personally believe that they have that kind of sway or that anyone would really care, but that's another theory.
Not to nitpick you, but "not politically correct" is a very polite way to describe "frothing-at-the-mouth racists".
They might also catch up innocent teen Johnny and his confusion over ephebophilia (pedo apologist!) and genteel Jane with her comments about how "lame" something is (ablist!), but it's not just that.
Among the people that the SRS subs dislike are some truly awful people.
SRSers believe that Legend of Zelda was actually a classist and racist biopic.
I'm not saying that they don't pick on stupid shit - but they also hate racists and pedophiles. Like, real ones. Even a stopped clock dislikes evil people twice a day.
The fundamental problem with SRS and reddit-at-large's interaction is that SRS will take any opportunity to discuss critical theory, no matter how improper the venue, and reddit-at-large is totally unfamiliar with the idea of enjoying problematic media and criticizing things you like.
That and the bit where reddit really likes to kick back with some good-old-fasioned awful opinions and "ironic" bigotry and SRS sometimes vanishes into some serious SJW tumblr crap, but that doesn't happen nearly as much as people like to pretend.
>and reddit-at-large is totally unfamiliar with the idea of enjoying problematic media and criticizing things you like.
Nah. From what I've seen, they simply don't jive with unsubstantiated 'analyses' where the conclusion has already been decided. i.e.
"Is this work racist and sexist?"
"Yes!"
It's hilariously sophmoric, and it became in vogue largely due to the educational bubble pushing idiots into higher education, thus dumbing down curricula.
Bullshit.
A woman gave GTA V a 9/10 and said it had a problem with sexism and portrayal of women (it has a huge problem with sexism and portrayal of women) and reddit tried to get her fired.
>A woman gave GTA V a 9/10 and said it had a problem with sexism and portrayal of women (it has a huge problem with sexism and portrayal of women)
Yeah, called satire. This is a game where all of the men are corrupt cops, criminals, businessmen, and psychopaths. But man, how dare they not portray women in a positive light and make fun of feminists?!?! I know I know, it don't real, but since a game is supposed to be reviewed on its merits and not how it doesn't jive with the political opinions of a reviewer when the game is considered by most to be one of the best ever released, taking away a full point is a bit out of line.
And they'd have tried to get a male reviewer fired as well.
>and reddit tried to get her fired.
Yeah I am sure the majority of redditors on /r/gaming went out of their way to do so. Man you kids are disingenuous.
> Yeah, called satire
it's not satire to shout racist shit and then say "just kidding!"
There's a lot of satire in the game, and a lot of it does a really good job.
Michael and trevor are both supposed to be these "badass" dudes but that's undercut by their huge insecurities and emotional vulnerabilities. Satire is the disconnect between robbing a jewel store and then going to a therapist to talk about your feelings. Satire is a dude trying to make an honest living and ending up gunning down federal agents with a sniper rifle.
Satire isn't portraying all women as one-dimensional harpies that just be obnoxious and yell and nothing else.
The closest thing to an well written female character in the game is a woman with stockholm syndrome that falls in love with a psychopath.
> it had a huge problem with sexism and portrayal of women
Yeah, if you take their definition of "sexism" at face value, subscribe to their ideology and view media through their lens. This sort of statement is contingent on how you're interpreting the media you're saying is such a problem. Different ideologies have different ways of interpreting media and if you're feminist in the way that most feminist bloggers are today you want to position yourself as the one true ideology with which a person can interpret media.
lol.
