Maybe it isn't about coolness, maybe its about not being able to relate to a show primarily aimed at children? Maybe its a maturity thing?
I think truly mature people should be able to see beyond the whole "but it's a little girl's show" thing. If you watch the show with this constantly in mind, you probably wont enjoy it. But if you suspend your cynicism, MLP can be awesome. I don't think that means you're immature, it just means you have the ability to see the value in things that are different from what you're used to, and not dismiss them outright just because of some label. If anything, it's a sign of maturity.
And, yes, MLP is aimed at children, but it's actually pretty good, unlike most children's programming. Non-bronies tend to think it's just another claw-your-eyes-out insipid, mindless kiddy TV show and wonder why the hell people watch it. It's not one of those shows, it's actually good.

Another aspect of maturity is not getting so caught up in what others think about you, like whether the show you clearly adore is immature or not.
The show may be immature, but that doesn't mean its fans are immature.
I'm not defending bronies on the internet because I feel I'm being attacked personally, I just find it interesting looking at what seperates the bronies from the non-bronies. I was on the other side of the fence as well less than a year ago. You're obviously interested as well, since you started this thread.
I'm interested in the drama you created in the linked thread, it just happened to be about MLP.
It could have been about Pol Pot for all I care.
