I'm going to go with free teens. I have a vision, as it may sound a bit more lame I'm sure it will be better.

Yes. Free Teens. I just posted a paragraph about how this place sucks now and is too rule heavy and distracted by celebrities. I can't wait for this.

I'll just go read that paragraph for your opinion then.

Honestly, I wish there were a more effective way for people to communicate with the moderators. This sub-reddit is far from permanently lost, but we can't keep going our way without input from you and you can't keep going your way without input from us.

It's a democracy, but we're treating it like Anarchy and you're treating it like a Republic. Not a Dictatorship, because I know you really aren't that bad. But the rules just keep on tightening, and as you tighten, we squirm. It's to be expected.

In all honestly, the Moderators, excluding you, Spectators, and Lobsters, don't seem to be a part of this community anymore. Assume that the people who are active here have a basic sense of cyber-security. We shouldn't be on the internet in the first place if we weren't capable of defending our identities and information. Also, we shouldn't be on the internet if we aren't prepared for minorly-offensive content. It's to be expected.

The chat channel (IRC, maybe?) was quite a bit of fun and semi-active. TinyChats were peoples own business and enjoyed by many users. I understand that you couldn't advocate them due to the transfer of private information and the danger that this situation could put you in, but it should be possible for Teenagers to use this sub-reddit to set up communication channels if they so desire.

Tl;dr I have many opinions on this place that seem to be heavily echoed by the community. There needs to be a way, a thread or petition system, for the people to petition mods for changes to the rules. It needs to be majority rule.

>Honestly, I wish there were a more effective way for people to communicate with the moderators.

I try to do my bit with things like this. I run around the sub-reddit replying to posts and basically trying to get a feel for the community. Its something that has perhaps been missing for the last few months and that people are still trying to get used to now that it is happening again.

>Assume that the people who are active here have a basic sense of cyber-security.

If this was true, the rules wouldn't exist. It also doesn't prevent doxxing, which is what the rules aim to prevent. It may be worth us reconsidering how we implement the rules, and I'm happy to bring up suggestions in changes to how we apply the rules if you have them.

Do remember that the rule about personal information is basically taken from the reddit rules and then expanded upon. We have to enforce reddit rules. That isn't optional.

As for minor-offensive, I will admit that I have been looking at some of the content I have removed and trying to judge whether I was too touchy about it. I do look back at my moderation and reassess myself, and various user comments are sat in my 'bring up in next general modmail' post regarding how we can change our moderation of this rule to be more useful and less censor.

When I remove a comment or otherwise moderate, I post. People reply to that and I take notes. Even if I stick to the official guidelines - which I kind of have to, for various reasons - I still take notes. I then try to change my moderation to match both those notes and the guidelines. I don't know how successful it will be long term.

>In all honestly, the Moderators, excluding you, Spectators, and Lobsters, don't seem to be a part of this community anymore.

I can't speak officially about this. It's not polite nor particularly useful.

> The chat channel (IRC, maybe?) was quite a bit of fun and semi-active.

And was driving away users due to their hostility, the lack of moderation on a similar level to as found on the sub-reddit and the fact that even the mods were trolling users. The community on the IRC was not reflective of the community here, so we removed official ties and brought all social tools into line with the guidelines for tinychat.

>TinyChats were peoples own business and enjoyed by many users

And were a potential concern due to personal information leaking. Once again, this is a concern I have noted to bring up, but notes don't move mountains and there is an entire mod team to discuss it with.

Personally, my objection to tinychat was the use of a platform which tried to link my facebook to my tinychat every time I went onto the site. Three times. I understand that this is a peculiarity of my tinychat usage now however, and it makes my opinion on it less set-against.

>it should be possible for Teenagers to use this sub-reddit to set up communication channels if they so desire.

One of the things that keeps on coming up within all of my modmails (from both reddits) is the possibility of throwing it all over to /r/teensocial and keeping official social networks there. I'm not quite sure what this would achieve, other than a workaround the rules here on /r/teenagers. I'm also not entirely sure that I wish to be affiliated, officially, with some of this splinter communities. It is something for me to discuss with those communities that have already reached out to me, and also to those communities which I am about to reach out to.

>I have many opinions on this place that seem to be heavily echoed by the community.

Yup, me too. I say a lot of things that are me reciting the party line. I try to make it clear that I'm doing this and that it isn't always my opinion - no one actually believes that the mod team are all in favour of all proposals do they? - but in the same way, I also occasionally express my opinion on things.

Though I tend to avoid providing ammunition to be thrown at the mod team, because that's just annoying.

There was someone that used my forum post to argue with me in the modmail once. Drove me up the wall sigh.

If I didn't know any better I would think this was me commenting. I've been saying some of the same exact things for the last few weeks to a month. They are trying their best to keep us safe and do whats right for the community at least 80% of the time. We're teenagers though, we don't exactly like rules. Eventually we'll get enough people on board and they'll HAVE to take notice that even more needs to be done. Like I said though, they're trying...

Right! It's not like the moderators are doing anything bad. I seem to have offended mediaboy in another post, and I regret that.

But I honestly feel like they're going about the process in the wrong way.

Every time I've talked to the mods I feel like we've come out of it with someone getting seemingly offended, even if it was only a little. It's probably because we care about whats going on in the sub and all want the best. Even then, I can't help but feel that most of us are taking it a bit too personally.

I know what you mean. Like I said, I've been talking to them for a bit now trying to get them to try new ways of doing things. I don't want them to implement things as permanent solutions right away, just TRY new things. It hasn't been anywhere near successful thus far. We'll just have to keep at it until they give in a little.

>Every time I've talked to the mods I feel like we've come out of it with someone getting seemingly offended, even if it was only a little

Quite a lot of the time, people put an offended tone into my words when I speak either as a mod or as a person. Most of the time, I'm actually just asking questions or stating my opinion.

I am not going to get offended.

I will ban you if you're being deliberately offensive though :)

And, uh, we are trying new things. Check memes. I think I've already said this to you, but its 9am and I'm getting lost and confused.

>I am not going to get offended.

That's also good to hear. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't mean to offend anyone at anytime. I'm just calling things as I see them and trying to improve the community.

>I will ban you if you're being deliberately offensive though :)

Of course! That's exactly how it should be.

>And, uh, we are trying new things. Check memes. I think I've already said this to you, but its 9am and I'm getting lost and confused.

For the most part, the mods have only just begun to dip their toes into new things. My feeling is that some of the members of the moderation group are bit more close minded than they should be for a community of this type.

Edit: Confused about what exactly? I'll be happy to explain.

>Confused about what exactly? I'll be happy to explain.

If I'm honest and to the point, I've been awake nearly 20 hours now. I wanted to go to bed about 5 hours ago, and then a new circlejerk kicked off and I've had to sit here and wait for all Americans to finally go to sleep so that I could go get some sleep.

I want sleep, my girlfriend, and preferably relaxing music. Ideally, we'd have a nice few quiet days on reddit so that I can have lots of sex when my girlfriend does get here, but that might be pushing it a bit.

To get back on topic, I can't discuss the moderation team in public. It's not polite and it's bad modiquette. Rest assured that I will continue suggesting things to the mod team as I see them crop up on the forums though :)

You didn't, it's just hidden away behind about 30 other windows full of posts I have to reply to.

I'm going to give a proper response, rather than a quick one, jus tbear with me :)

To be fair, partly due to how the system worked prior to a few weeks ago, the mod team had a lot of red tape.

We've just started cutting down on all of that, so we might be able to get places faster, which will be nice for all of you.
