People who post in SRS generally get downvoted heavily when they post in the hate sub srssucks. Not really seeing the drama.

Meta-subs have the most crossover between subs. So people being subscribed to SRD, SRS, SRSsucks, ect in some sort of combination is common. I'm personally subscribed to 8.

so SRSS and /r/mensrights might not outright censor people, but with voting they effectively do so
the only way around this is for mods to give "approved submitter" status to individuals - but that becomes very annoying to do because you have to edit that in manually

Hardly happens. Only people who really want to participate in the community but can't because of downvotes would be granted that.
Most people who go in and have an unpopular opinion leave because the community is not welcoming.
In SRS subs, you get yelled at and then banned. In MRA subs, you get yelled at and downvoted until you can't post.
Both become echo chambers, though their methods are different.

From the looks of it it seemed you were simply being countered with cited sources... You seemed to also be projecting at them when you implied that they were treating everything as a debate when YOU went in there to debate in the first place.... Then when people disagreed with you, citing sources and everything, you devolved into shitposting.

Looking through his post history in SRSs, it seems like he posts there for the sole purpose of antagonizing them.
I would definitely take whatever he says with a grain of salt, as he probably has some sort of bias.

It's effectively the same thing. Both stifle discussion.
It's not the same thing. For one you have to wait a few minutes. The other ends any and all possibility of discussion right away.
Get downvoted enough and the wait becomes 20+ minutes. When you're in a conversation with multiple people and can only pick one person to respond to while 10+ people are replying to your comment, it's not worth it.
Yeah you can wait, but the discussion becomes so one sided because aren't able to express your opinion.
That's why even without having to ban people you still get echo chambers.
Having been on the receiving end of both, it is definitely not "effectively" the same thing. For starters, no-one downvotes with the intent to delay your posting time. I doubt many redditors even realize it has that effect. And secondly if you're arguing with 10 separate people, generally I find you're going to need that time to formulate decent replies to all of them. If you're wanting to churn out "k" at a high rate then yeah it would be annoying.

Yeah, but that's true of almost any sub with a dedicated and circlejerkish userbase. Even so, like I said above, I don't approve of SRSers being automatically downvoted when they post to SRSs.
Except they banned several srdbrokers a couple weeks ago for no reason other than the mods there hating fun. Shit, they even banned /u/cojoco. What about our free speech? Hypocrites, I tell you!

For what it's worth, I don't approve of SRSers being downvoted in SRSs, unless they are obviously trolling or just spewing childish insults. Otherwise, their opinions should be treated just like anyone else's. Unfortunately, SRSs has its share of immature users who will automatically downvote and insult anyone from SRS. Well, I guess it's still a step above banning anyone who disagrees.
srss drags the drama here and gets my comments below threshold so I have a time limit to posting over and over. Just because I post in SRS sometimes.
