/u/Batty-Koda, mod from TIL, attempts to explain why a post on /r/NFL wouldn't be allowed in /r/todayilearned...even though /r/NFL isn't /r/todayilearned (np.reddit.com)

I think the comment /u/Batty-Koda linked explains what's going on. It doesn't strike me as drama, so much as confusion. Essentially he/she wanted to save the post as a template for "Posts with TIL in the title that aren't from /r/todayilearned". Honestly I don't why permission was even asked. I mean I guess it's courteous, but I doubt anyone would get angry if it got saved and referred to later.
I also have to say this might be the best example of people voting according to reddiquette I've seen in some time.
Really? Upvoting lorem ipsum, and "I refuse to read" is the best voting according to reddiquette you've seen?
When posts that were direct responses to questions asked me, I knew that subredditdrama had linked it. Cause this sub picks one side, then votes the shit out of it, regardless of what was said. I'm sure it helps that OP's headline says something I never actually said.
Also, I think it's funny that a comment about that specific post is "off topic" in that post. "Whoa whoa whoa, you can't talk about this post in THIS POST!"
No it was the fact that your comments had nothing to do with Peyton Manning, or the topic at hand. They were off on another topic that weren't pertinent to the discussion.
I repeat:
> I think it's funny that a comment about that specific post is "off topic" in that post. "Whoa whoa whoa, you can't talk about this post in THIS POST!"
And sure that's why. Totally. It's not because it was too long, even though several people said that. It has nothing to do with people misunderstanding it, it's not like even the title of this thread is wrong about what was said and the guy thinking I was trying to enforce TIL rules outside TIL was upvoted...
And again, lorem ipsum is on topic and about peyton manning? Yeaokay.jpg. However you've got to rationalize it, buddy.
Off topic, but c'mon man, give this sub a break. Just because we linked it, and you were downvoted doesn't mean the entire sub did it. The point of SRD is to not comment/vote, but observe. Obviously some people don't follow these rules, but there are attempts being made at stopping voting and such. I'm sick and tired of hearing people complain about something most of us don't like anymore than you.
This would be one of those times where you really ought to walk away from the computer. Or continue being butthurt and entertaining, whatever trips your trigger.
Just admit you made a mistake man! It's simple, just say "yeah i should've pm'd him or made a shorter comment," and then DON'T end it with "PEOPLE ARE SO TSTUPID I'L HAVE TO MAKE A MEME TO EXPLAIN THEY CAN'T READ LONG THINGS HEY WAHTS WITH THE DOWNVOTES"
And you'll probably do a lot better karma wise.
It's ok to say you probably messed it up and say sorry or oops. There is no correlation between discussing Manning and the rules of posting in TIL. If the title of a post has 'wtf' in it... is it on topic to have the mods of /r/wtf chime in about the rules of their subreddit?
I'm going to guess you are a new moderator and very excited to help out which is cool. But really, it's ok to say yeah - might have got it wrong, sorry. Had a brain fart... bad day... bad take-out for lunch...
Why perpetuate the drama?
Wooosh, don't mind that point of the post flying over your head. You didn't need to understand anyway. It's funny how offended people are when they can't even bother reading what was actually asked.
Wooosh... no one is offended. They just think you are a moron... and I am now convinced you are a moron. Congrats.
There is nothing that makes me think you aren't a kid very excited about moderating. You screwed up... fine. Lots of kids get overly excited about things like this... but most who are invited to do it can be rational in the sense of not thinking they are always right. It's ok to be wrong... or at least to suck it up and say you are wrong. best luck.
Whatever you gotta tell yourself. I can see someone who understood me, saw him explain it, and saw people back peddle with "hur, but that's not why".
Get madder. It's funny.
Look you waltzed into another sub saying "I wanna use this as an example of what not to do in my sub" then everyone else was like "nobody cares, just shush" and you were all "you are illiterate, waaah srd is brigading" and now we're all laughing as you get madder. This is perfection.
Your request would have been more appropriate as a PM to the OP.
And "your request would have been more appropriate as a PM" would've been a decent response, if that's how people feel. Yet it's lorem ipsum and "hur, I won't read" that are there getting upvotes.
I also explained several times why it wasn't a PM. Aaaaaand that doesn't really explain all the other useless "I don't understand" and "I understand. You're trying to summon godzilla" stupidity.
It was a circle jerk plain and simple. I made the mistake of taking more than 3 lines for something, people got confused, and then people jumped on the band wagon. If it were just "it would've been better as a PM" then it would've stopped after one reply. It didn't, because it was just jerking it to "haha, look at this sucker actually answering questions that are asked"
The best part is, even though shit like that is right there, I bet you actually think it wasn't just people piling on.
>I also explained several times why it wasn't a PM.
Those reasons are silly. "I don't like PMs" isn't much of a reason. A PM would've been appropriate. Surely you like sending a PM more than you like this happening?
Absolutely, it was people piling on. This is reddit, it happens every day, every sub. How can you be surprised? What's the point in arguing? That's what I don't understand.
I have a bad habit of trying to help people understand, even when it's hopeless. And it's not like I can't afford the karma, it's only even slightly irritating there because I haven't posted there enough before to not have a post timer. Plus I was reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallly bored today.
So, small gain when someone does get it, no real loss.
Just out of curiosity, what was it about the OP's post that makes it unsuitable for TIL? (I don't subscribe to either subreddit)
His title said that Manning only had 6 fumbles, but really he has 20. It's 6 rushing fumbles. If you go a few parents up in context from the link, you'll see comments discussing that.
That makes sense. Thanks for answering my question.
This post doesn't contribute to the discussion and is blatantly off-topic. Have a downvote.
I also downvoted him but only because I know it makes him angry.
