Hey guys, parent commenter here. Just wanted to say that this was some good discussion. Up until everyone just defaulted to calling me sexist. I've heard some really great things about /r/makeupaddiction so don't let this shitstorm keep you from checking it out! The things those guys and girls can do with makeup is crazy.
That sub is great and has been great for ages. A majority of the shitstorms happen when people come in from outside the community.
Yeah that always happens whenever a post from MUA reaches the front page of /r/all.
There's always a gaggle of downvoted comments at the bottom whining about how 'makeup = cheating' or 'This may be a controversial comment and I'm going to brace for downvotes but I prefer natural girls :)'.
Did you even read the discussions? I never said any of that shit. I was saying the quote itself was sexist which in turn made me the sexist. And now that I'm advocating for the subreddit because I believe that most of MUA is a great place, I'm getting downvoted. I just love reddit :)
Can you highlight the part of my post where I accused you of writing said comments?
It's hilarious watching you try to be the bigger man in this whole situation btw. You overreacted and accused a community of being sexist, then when you rightfully got called out you started doing the 'sigh, it's such a shame that the community is making itself look so bad right now, pity, I wanted to like them' schtick.
Ok, so you didn't.
And I totally overreacted to a quote that is both sexist towards men AND WOMEN. So yeah, it's a fucking shame to see that some people can't get off their fucking high horse and admit that this shit is sexist. And I actually believe it's a good subreddit. There are just some really bad apples on it.
There were many more downvoted comment than just yours. You should check them out and see who you're in bed with.
/u/frenchhorntech isn't responsible for anything anyone says, and shouldn't have to change his worldview because someone else is being an asshole.
Why would anyone suggest that?
I don't know. Why did you?
>You should check them out and see who you're in bed with.
Yeah, that doesn't say anything about changing their opinion or being responsible for others' comments.
Yeah, then what do you mean by /u/frenchhorntech being "in bed with" them?

Sorry, but that is just like telling mexicans they can't come to the US because they cause problems when they do. I really like MUA and what they do, but that post WAS sexist. It generalizes both men and women like some bad sitcom. I just was posting to say that men do understand what women go through and then all of a sudden I'm the sexist.
Not to touch the poop, but you were the first to say 'sexist'.
In regards to this comment:
> But now that I know even mentioning men in this subreddit is apparently the worst thing you could do, I'll pass.
You should know that there are men who use the subreddit. So, yeah, maybe making generalizations like that about a sub you're obviously totally unfamiliar with wasn't the best move.
I said that because I was getting replies about how there's always comments about men and how MUA is a safe haven for women who want to use makeup. That, and I was downvoted heavily for mentioning men.
You seem to be greatly misunderstanding why you were downvoted heavily.
I'm curious why you felt the need to comment on a picture from an incredibly niche sub that really has nothing to do with you.
Like, why?
Because sexism is an important social issue in this world and this post was really sexist, towards both men and women.
Also it was 5 am and I guess I wasn't thinking straight.
Hoooooo boy, I was all ready to give you the benefit of the doubt after seeing this comment first but holy wow. That's some butter right there. You could say my good thoughts about you were ripped away very quickly.
I'm curious, have you seen this episode of Castle? I haven't and I'm wondering if you have more context than I do.
edit: Nevermind, I found it in the full comments. She's explaining to her son, Castle, why his daughter is acting a certain way in preparation for a date.
Apparently someone said someone wouldn't look good with fuchsia makeup. Then someone said, don't say that you'll give her body image issues. Then Martha or whoever this is said the quote.
It's just a sexist quote. Why is it THAT hard for people to see?
It's a generalization said by a character who is an actress who is often very dramatic. I wouldn't expect her character to stop and say "but now now, I know men also have self esteem issues". Call it sexist, sure. Stop watching Castle if it bothers you, I guess.
If you think calling the quote sexist is the biggest reason why you're being downvoted, buddy, do I have news for you!
But I mean taken out of it's original context and put in a sub where everybody is into make up and circlejerking, it is a little bit sexist in a 'men will never understand' kind of way. I don't think that OP really warranted -100 for that.
Another person who said much of the same thing was upvoted because they didn't have a shit attitude.
I've looked and I don't see any, just a bunch of downvoted comments at the bottom like this and some 'what about the menz' type stuff.
Are you looking for one that specifically calls it sexist? The comment I'm thinking of does not do that, so you may have me there. It just says that men are insecure as well so that's something the quote misses the mark on.
Fair enough, the only comment I saw that says that is in the pool of downvoted comments at the bottom, but I might have missed it.
"The only problem I have with this is that her statement applies to both men and women. We all have insecurities." +46
This is the comment I'm thinking of. I'm not sure if you see it the same way I do.
