why is it the most depressing sub? as a regular there, i always laugh at uninformed outsiders who have no idea about opioid use. i fucking hate people who've seen trainspotting and requi for a dream and think every opioid user is like that. its highly ignorant, untrue and judgmental.

maybe it's just me, but i consider subs like /r/sexwithdogs, /r/beatingwomen, and /r/strugglefucking (all NSFW ofc) way more depressing.

for a site that takes pride in hyperintellectualism we sure have loads of people here who understand absolutely nothing about opioid use.

To be fair, I haven't spent any time perusing those 3 subreddits.

Look, I'll be open minded and accept the possibility that you can be a responsible opiate user. But there are so many posters there who are seem to be repeatedly trying and failing to quit opiate use... it seems to me that /r/opiates is enabling their addiction.

Or maybe I just don't understand it.

You're spot on. Most drug subs are circlejerks of poor decision making, enabling addicts to continue being twats. A "responsible" user will find very little of substance in any such subreddit, while plenty of people find plenty of shoulders to lean on.

If /r/opiates is anything like /r/cripplingalcoholism, it's definitely enabling addicts to continue self-destructing. It's a support group for users, and although this isn't inherently bad, the strength of the community may keep people trapped in the lifestyle.

If you wanna quit you shouldn't be subbed.

Because people actively boast about opiate addiction there. Because there's an overwhelming circlejerk that people who use opiates are smarter than you average folks and are too clever to possibly get addicted. Because a large portion of posts are along the lines of "I routinely take a highly addictive drug that is know for destroying lives, how come these uneducated bigots don't approve?".

Hey now, there's nothing wrong with a strugglefucking fetish so long as it's consensual. It's one of the most common among both men and women.

So you see absolutely nothing wrong with a subreddit that continues to enable addiction, and seems to glamourise the use of such drugs?

What more do people need to know about drugs such as these? They're awful, ruin lives and there is never a happy ending when heroin is involved.

Most people who never did drugs nor have friend who did just don't know what they are talking about. Is that new ? Not really. Will it change. Neither.

"Drug addicts do not work. They don't have friend. They steal. They lie. They even eat babies. And they are probably worshiping Lucifer right ?"

Allright then, lay it on me.

I've had zero personal experience with opiates apart from media, and hanging out with a friend of a friend who was what I'd describe as "a junkie". That individual has since cleaned up as far as I know and as far as that is possible.

So tell me, what are my misconceptions, and how is the best advice regarding heroin anything other than "Don't fucking do it please try to quit because while you MIGHT be able to handle it responsibly there's a massive chance you won't"?
