Hi /u/YungSnuggie, I definitely don't know you, but this is the kind of discussion that I'm interested in because it directly relates to my profession. Choosing how you write has nothing to do with your ethnicity. The choice you've made, for personal reasons, might. I don't know about you, but I write with a voice. Mostly I write the way I speak. However, I'm definitely playing a role and it's a part of my online persona. It's not fake, it's a part of me. It's more similar to how I choose to speak to my kids vs. how I choose to speak to my wife, and how I choose to communicate online under my own personal brand vs. a client's brand.
I have absolutely every bit of faith that you can switch off your written voice. I'm guessing that you have the ability to switch your language depending on the audience you are presenting to. I'm seeing it above. You are using one voice when you write to entertain and another when you are pissed off at people's assumptions.
I don't think you are ghetto or a thug and I'm guessing that you aren't ghetto or a thug. I'm guessing that you are educated, either from being self-taught, a college grad, or a combination of the two. It's clear from the way you are able to express yourself. It's also clear that you are smart and have a knack for communications.
What I can tell you is that you are selectively choosing your use of slang. You are not writing in ebonics. You are selectively using elements of hip-hop/urban language, but you are communicating in a way that is broadly understood. In short, you are writing for your audience. And that's just smart. It's not disingenuous, I'm sure you are writing your real thoughts and opinions. But the language you use, you are in full command of that. It's definitely a persona. It's not like you don't have the ability to select your words and the language you do. (I'm sure you know or have met people who are genuinely stuck writing or speaking the way they do and it's not a matter of their choosing... Pick a region or ethnicity, it doesn't matter, this is a human thing.)
That's not a bad thing. You show me someone online with a following, and I will show you how their speech or written voice is stylized. (It is normal for that stylized speech to become your actual speech as well.)
You don't need to defend how you select your written voice. Just acknowledge it and move on. You can simply say, that's how I write. It's a part of who I am but it's not everything that I am. All writers have a written voice. Sometimes finding it is a bitch too so if something is working for you, keep it. I'm sure how you developed your online voice was a process. You kept what worked and discarded what didn't. Everyone with a sizeable online following has done the same. There is nothing wrong with being a personality and entertaining or amusing people with your written word. It is a gift.
White, Black, whatever the fuck. If you can write and people read and enjoy what you write, keep doing it. However, one of the hardest things about being a personality or writing for the public is the sting of random criticism. At the end of the day, you are still a human. I recall once being pissed off about something someone wrote in the press and I made the mistake of going ballistic in the comments. I regret that. My ego and honestly, my emotions, got in the way of my common sense. I'm not going to tell you that it stops stinging, it doesn't. You just get better at handling it (or you drink a lot, whether you are Bieber or Bukowski.)
That's my two cents. Again, there will always be critics, but if you can write and people read and enjoy what you write, that's a gift.

You know this comment has me thinking about my own manipulation of language. I'm not a good writer and can't just turn on and off different voices with ease. But, I can turn my accent up and down. I'm from Texas and naturally have a very mild Texas accent. But when I'm in the north east, Europe, or Canada I notice that I turn it up a bit. It's not always a conscious decision, though sometimes it is. The accent isn't special back home, but it is in some places of the world. Maybe that's just me, but it seems very human to use the way you talk/write to your advantage.

It isn't that white is normal, it's that whatever most people are doing is normal and that changes depending on where you are. Nobody on reddit except for you writes quite like that, not even on HHH or /r/NBA. That means people take notice and not always in a good way. You have every right to be different, but doing so in a sea of relative homogeneity will put you up to scrutiny as well as praise. It isn't that different from your right to free speech.
If tomorrow I moved to Russia and retained all my Americanisms- loud, big exaggerated smile, and all the time hugging- I would no doubt be the odd man out. In this and any other scenario we're faced with answering the question "how much should I acquiesce and in what way?" In this situation there was no reason to give yourself over, but based on personal experience the dilemma does come up, and usually ends in code-switching to our shared dialect just like you mentioned.
The reason it can come across as try-hard when you don't is that many people feel that surrendering to the dominant culture is the easier route, whereas holding steadfast to your innate or old ways can be a conscious lifestyle choice that invites the aforementioned commentary by the majority. Any 1st gen. immigrant could tell you this. But clearly it's the opposite for you- it's easy and far from conscious- so perspectives clash and shit is flung for the third time and counting.

As a doctor, I use this site to amuse myself in the mornings before a shift, and possibly to see something I may have missed in the news. In all honesty, if you were really anything special and had any confidence whatsoever, you wouldn't need to hop over to every subreddit that shows one inkling of a thought that perhaps you're not the coolest thing on the site and defend yourself.
