Who is girlwriteswhat and why did the user's talk inspire a frothy rage?
Edit: I have clearly walked into a hot button issue. I bid this thread adieu.
You might want to just watch a video or two on YouTube to get a less biased response. She doesn't come off as misogynistic to me, but she certainly rustled a few jimmies in this thread.
"Fuck, I'm still not 100% convinced that women's suffrage wasn't a huge mistake." - GirlWritesWhat
"If someone took away my right to have 1/100,000+th of the decision-making power in my country... well, why would I care?" - GirlWritesWhat
"Erin Pizzey called it "consensual violence", and said in the main, that was the type she'd see at her shelter. It is also the type that results in the most severe injuries in women, surprise surprise, likely because our "never EVER hit a woman" mentality has those men waiting until they completely lose control of their emotions before giving their women what they're demanding." - GirlWritesWhat
"I suppose what I'm getting at is that as a woman having children or being of childbearing years, your children are your primary concern, and any love relationship will probably be a one-way street. Men love women, women love children, children love puppies." - GirlWritesWhat
"I have also made the assertion that women evolved to be more concerned with their personal physical comfort and safety than men, more self-interested and self-absorbed, less emotionally generous, more apprehensive in any situation, more sensitive and less emotionally stable, more prone to freezing or fleeing than acting in dangerous situations, compelled to police masculinity, and more inclined to recruit others to act as proxies in risky circumstances." - GirlWritesWhat
"Afghanistan is not a society that oppresses women. It’s a society where everyone’s stuck in the grip of cruel circumstances and Islamic laws that burden men with duties that require rights, and bestow entitlements on women that don’t." - GirlWritesWhat
She also unironically called 'real MRAs' 'John Galts'
>But for the last 30-100 years up until our recent traction in the mainstream, the only MRAs who've actually BEEN MRAs have been free-thinkers and John Galts. The "liberal, progressive" MRAs were too busy with drum circles, emulating Alan Alda and being Michael Kimmel to actually do one damn thing for men that wasn't primarily for the benefit of women.

She's also a Historian's worst nightmare
Feminism = 'Situational Sociopathy' = Responsible for the Holocaust
A bit of domestic violence here and there is apparenty fine and dandy too
Lol. /r/againstmensrights to the rescue!
Are you Aerik's alt, or is it possible for there to be two people this sad on reddit?
Wow, what a bitter and unhelpful response.
Because why actually try to respond?
I google'd and found context for the first two quotes: http://www.redditlog.com/snapshots/34651
Not really as bad as this post makes it out to be. Pretty safe to assume that this post clearly has an agenda.
>Fuck, I'm still not 100% convinced that women's suffrage wasn't a huge mistake. Or that universal suffrage wasn't a huge mistake. Both come with pros and cons. And maybe as someone who sees voting as not worth the bother, I'm detached enough from it to contemplate the forbidden questions, but jeez. What's a vote? Every four years, you get to be one of millions casting votes? If someone took away my right to have 1/100,000+th of the decision-making power in my country... well, why would I care? Oh my gawd, my right to be one drop in a barrel? In a water tower? How dare you take that away!
The context doesn't really make it better because denying 1/2 the country the ability to vote isn't a drop in the bucket. It also completely ignores local or state elections as well as ballot issues like referendums.
The last line:
>I'd rather understand how things work, so I can make adjustments in my own life and figure out ways to deal with what is, than cast a vote that will never, odds as they are, be the deciding one...
It seems like she is speaking more about her lack of faith in democracy than anything else
>It is seems more like she has little faith in democracy.
She didn't say that, though. She said she thinks that universal suffrage may be a huge mistake, meaning she supports the right of some to vote. Considering she's staunchly libertarian as well, we can only guess what that means.
I'm not sure how context informs either of those two quotes in a more favorable way, although GWW is a pretty hardcore libertarian and they generally have out-there views on democracy in general.
the second quote is actually, in my opinion, made to look worse in context
There is no context aside from 100% pure sarcasm that makes "women's suffer age may have been a mistake" less bad
> Pretty safe to assume that this post clearly has an agenda.
Duh
>this post clearly has an agenda
and Straughan doesn't?
Well, I have no idea who this woman is beyond what I google'd in the last 10mins, and honestly I'm already done. The misery that surrounds Reddit's gender battles is so damn infectious.
But this woman has obviously struck a nerve for you. Just look at how you described her:
>she inspires rage because she is unbearably smug, is an unrepentant misogynist, and because she tortures logic and statistics in ways that sound smart enough to fool a lot of people >she aspires to achieve credibility with a more academic set, but she's dropped out of university at least twice and never got past a single semester of higher education, so I think that frosts some people too
I actually laughed out loud a little at how unashamedly you put this woman on blast and attacked her character. This thread is going to get fucking buttery.
freebleeding legbeards hate her
and her editor:
>"I find you, as a feminist, to be a loathsome, vile piece of human garbage. I find you so pernicious and repugnant that the idea of fucking your shit up gives me an erection."
>"Should I be called to sit on a jury for a rape trial, I vow publicly to vote not guilty, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that the charges are true."
>"I have ideas about women who spend evenings in bars hustling men for drinks, playing on their sexual desires … And the women who drink and make out, doing everything short of sex with men all evening, and then go to his apartment at 2:00 a.m.. Sometimes both of these women end up being the “victims” of rape.
>But are these women asking to get raped?
>In the most severe and emphatic terms possible the answer is NO, THEY ARE NOT ASKING TO GET RAPED.
>They are freaking begging for it.
>Damn near demanding it.
>And all the outraged PC demands to get huffy and point out how nothing justifies or excuses rape won’t change the fact that there are a lot of women who get pummeled and pumped because they are stupid (and often arrogant) enough to walk though life with the equivalent of a I’M A STUPID, CONNIVING BITCH – PLEASE RAPE ME neon sign glowing above their empty little narcissistic heads."
and as a bonus he mooches off his girlfriend for money
she's an anti-feminist men's right's activist, very much a sacred cow in their community
she inspires rage because she is unbearably smug, is an unrepentant misogynist, and because she tortures logic and statistics in ways that sound smart enough to fool a lot of people
she aspires to achieve credibility with a more academic set, but she's dropped out of university at least twice and never got past a single semester of higher education, so I think that frosts some people too
She's a rather misogynist woman who's rather well-known in the MRM.
holding women and men to the same standards is apparently "misogyny"...
she's the patron saint of "i'm a woman and here's why feminism is bad"
She is merely a woman who disagrees with feminism, as far as I can tell. My guess is this is enough for people like you to attack her.
funnily enough, I didn't even know she was an MRA. I seriously wouldn't be able to live with such a big target in my head.
She's a prominent contributor on avoiceformen. How could you possibly not know she's an MRA unless you've never heard of her before today? That's the entire reason anyone has heard of her.
>My guess is this is enough for people like you to attack her.
I "attack" her because she's profoundly anti-intellectual and covers up her lack of substance with verbosity. Her views on evolution and evolutionary psychology are pseudoscientific at best. Someone else in here posted some great quotes of hers, too.
> I seriously wouldn't be able to live with such a big target in my head.
That's pretty melodramatic.
I've only see her YouTube videos a few times. She comes up as anti-feminist for sure, but being anti-feminist, and defending men, doesn't necessarily make you an MRA. That's why I didn't know.
So she is an MRA huh? Oh well. I guess I'll have to see the rest of her videos to see if she really is anti-intellectual or we are just saying that because she is an MRA.
>That's pretty melodramatic.
It's a joke, but hey, you know what other groups likes to be melodramatic as hell?
>I guess I'll have to see the rest of her videos to see if she really is anti-intellectual or we are just saying that because she is an MRA.
I'm saying that based on what I've read here on reddit from her directly, not based on what's in her videos.
>It's a joke, but hey, you know what other groups likes to be melodramatic as hell?
no. Libertarians? MRAs? Atheists? Reddit users? All of the above?
Precisely, only groups you disagree with can be melodramatic.
Well not really since SRS is often a shining paramount of melodrama.
You haven't met girlwriteswhat?
Oh boy, you've missed out on some popcorn. She's gotten linked to quite a few times on SRD, and usually pops up in the threads as well. There was a thread where she just argued about monkeys for a while and she is highly disliked by SRS in general. She also posts in redpill women and although I can't find a decent link, I remember she once wrote an article or something about "unwanted sex vs rape" or something to that extent that made a lot of people very angry. She tends to be one of those evo-psych types, but makes enough stuff that's mainstream MRA that she has a pretty massive following. She's one of those hyper-argumentative types who just refuse to ever let an internet argument go, which when combined with her highly controversial opinions makes threads about her tend to explode with butter.
If we're lucky, she'll come here and bestow us with more popcorn.
