Bot creator drama when another user copies the open source code for /u/AutoWikiBot. (self.SubredditDrama)

/u/acini created /u/AutoWikiBot (more information can be found at /r/AutoWikiBot). His open source code has been hijacked by /u/deathfortress and the imposter bot is dubbed /u/AllInOneBot.

Having a bot that 'hassles' redditors with Wiki posts makes /u/acini selfpost about it in his bot's subreddit, found here.

Which leads to another post in /r/BotWatch found here.

And finally /u/acini takes action with posting in /r/KarmaCourt with a very detailed account for all grievances against /u/deathfortress. Including his/her GitHub account being revoked, his/her proof of karma whoring, and his/her desire to make a glitchy bot that discredits AutoWikiBot.

With /u/acini asking if

> "Would you like someone intentionally spamming reddit just for karma? This is a disservice to reddit users."

and stating

> "But it's a hassle for users."

about a bot running wiki code it seems the conversation can turn quickly meta about karma grabbing from bot code.

This is my first /r/SubredditDrama post so any feedback is welcomed. I know that this isn't serious drama but the juxtaposition of the /u/acini arguments being the exact same arguments people have made against his own bot amused me.

I quite enjoy the wiki bot. It saves me a click, most of the time it references the relevant section. However, I guess that's the price they pay for making it open source, so I can't feel too sorry for them in that regard.

I struggle to understand how someone could be so stupid as to sign their posts with their own user name (which is also a link to their user page) as well as including the time of their post in the longest format possible, when all of that information is already included in the post.

You replying like this, is exactly why he signs and timestamps his posts.

Putting effort into making yourself look stupid for the purpose of getting the smallest possible rise out of people is "trolling" now. Ok.

Meh, I'm not saying either way. But, it seems to be effective so far considering someone makes an identical post like yours every time he comments.

Yeah I'm not really seeing the effort/reward in that. It actually seems incredibly sad.

He has a script that adds it to everything he posts. It's literally zero effort on his part.

Making a script to do that is effort. Also the mental effort of even thinking about doing it. It's just so pointless. It's a horrible troll. If you're going to do all that and make yourself look stupid, you better get something good out of it. And he's really not.

> Making a script to do that is effort

It's like less than five minutes of coding. When you marginalize that over a large number of posts, then effort per post becomes minuscule, and is greatly outweighed by the effort put in by people making comments about it.

It's still effort. He said he's not a programmer so he had to learn all of that too.

The effort differential only really matters if people are raging out because of the troll. It seems that the only response he ever gets are people asking why he's doing it or people saying that he looks stupid. These are not the signs of a good troll.

You assume writing scripts is work. I can't speak for him, but personally, I've spent X minutes writing scripts that end up saving me X/2 minutes worth of time, and enjoyed it. It's certainly possible that it was a fun project for him and he had fun learning to do it.

I will say, he got me once, and managed to convince me he didn't know it was there. I figured it was some app doing it, and tried to help - took a couple of back and forths before I realized. Was very slightly amusing. Idk.

Yes, effort.

Your troll is stupid, sorry. Some people don't understand trolling so when they try to get in on it they end up doing something pointless and/or make themselves look stupid. Sorry to inform you, but...

That must be what's happening here. You seem to have a good bead on this situation. Give me some tips then, how can I be a better trole?

Usually it involves inducing actual rage instead of just doing something so lazily stupid that it elicits any response at all. You have to aim higher.

I think "mediocre" is being generous but at least you acknowledge that what you're doing is totally pointless, which is what I said from the very start. And doing pointless things makes you stupid, so... nice troll bro.

I'm going to start signing my posts now too, just because it's fun.
