Women carefully assess what situations they enter so as to avoid being harassed or assaulted?

Discrimination!

Women go about their business and have fun despite potential risk?

Asking for it!

>Women carefully assess what situations they enter so as to avoid being harassed or assaulted?

>Discrimination!

And yet it sounds so close to the way Stormfront talks about black people.

Yeah, avoiding a bar is totally the same as an organization that incites violence against and segregation from oppressed minorities.

The reasoning behind avoiding a bar because the majority are men and therefore possible rapist is pretty much the same as avoiding a bar because the majority are black and therefore possible criminals.

I get what their point was, but it's ridiculous. Men as a gender are not an oppressed class. They don't have a sordid history with discrimination or sexism or, for god's sake, slavery. It's just a ridiculous thing to compare it to. It's absurd, and the constant appropriation of racial issues to make points about trivial matters is offensive.

How does oppression factor into this discussion at all?

> the constant appropriation of racial issues to make points about trivial matters is offensive.

how is accusing all man of being possible rapist any more trivial than accusing all black people of being criminals?

Here's how this conversation will probably go:

DemonicBtch: Sexism, like racism requires power.

dingdongwong: That's idiotic.

DemonicBtch: No it's not, ignore the established definition of sexism/racism and look at this definition of it that we made up. It's the right one, and you should all agree with me.

>How does oppression factor into this discussion at all?

Because someone decided that women being cautions about who they drink with is on par with white supremacy. Either that or they chose the example to illicit an emotional reaction in their favor, which is pretty gross.

>how is accusing all man of being possible rapist any more trivial than accusing all black people of being criminals?

(1) No one is accusing all men of being rapists.

(2) The stereotypes about black people being criminals is deeply rooted in their oppression.

(3) It's trivial because the original topic of discussion was a particular bar being a sausage fest. Forgive me if I dismiss bar patronage as being inconsequential in the face of systemic discrimination.

Would you say the same about a bar that white people didn't want to go into because most of the people there are black?

I just think it's important to point out the hypocrisy in your statements. You dismiss everyone here because you don't view men as potential victims of sexism, which is pretty damn sexist in itself. Then, you use the exact same arguments to point out how oppressed black people are. I'm not disagreeing with the fact that black people are oppressed. But if you're going to argue that it's because of things like white people wanting to avoid black people who might be potential criminals, then you have to at least sort of see the hypocrisy in arguing that it's ok to not go to a bar because the men inside might be potential criminals.

Ok lets re-word this. Would you say the same thing about a bar that gay Asian people didn't want to go to because it was mostly black and they had, for some reason, decided that all black people are homophobic and hate Asians?

Edited to make them even more minorities

It's a similar line of reasoning to make the decision... not where someone goes.

I've seen enough feminists talk about directing violence towards men to know that aren't opposed to it.

I also notice you didn't disagree with me on them sounding so close.

Wow, was that really necessary? Of course people are going to bring up racial minorities every time gender comes up (because there are so many similarities there...) but come on.. =\

YES! Here's something written by a black man on the subject just an hour ago. You cannot deny that shordingers rapist also intersects with racism

There is a valid point to be made there about how feminist theory (not sure that a single blog post can count as such, but okay) often ignores racial minorities. However, I don't think the appropriate way to call that out is to put on verbal black face.

If verbal darkface will force you to see racism, I have no problem using it.

I didn't even mention race? I'm not sure how what I said even implies anything about race. I was pointing out that no matter how women try to handle risk assessment in regards to sexual harassment and assault, someone will say they're wrong for it.

The fact you didn't mention how race affects Schrödinger's rapist is why I mentioned it

I don't even know why you are trying, but I commend you for it. Some people just enjoy missing the point. It gives them their jollys or something.

These people are so consistently, willfully stupid. I don't understand why acting like an obtuse jackass is so en vogue right now.

/r/subredditdrama shares a lot of the same posters in /r/tumblrinaction, /r/mensrights, and /r/srssucks. Not getting the point and being obtuse are their specialties.
