No, I don't give a fuck about him but it saddens me when so many people have worked so hard to make this a success and all OP can do is post photos of a small part, not near the main villages, that has rubbish. It also annoys me that it got so many upvotes and is front page.

I understand why the other person posted the sochi images, it's to show the other half of the city that the world will never get to see, the neglect, the typical russian system of corruption; of "ordinary" people.

while you on the other hand are wont to show the beautiful bandaid covering up this part of the world, to pretend that nothing is wrong, that the olympic games are a symbol of progress, and that the only people that should matter are the rich, or idolized. who will really benefit? putin and a handful of his hand-picked oligarchs.

Here are some pictures of Detroit:

A side of the USA the most of the world never get to see as they are bombarded by Hollywood showing it as some kind of utopia. Most people don't will never get to see "the neglect, the typical American system of corruption; of "ordinary" people." Of course you can post some nice images of the USA but really those would just be showing "a beautiful bandaid covering up this part of the world, to pretend that nothing is wrong and that the only people that should matter are the rich, or idolized." Who really benefits? The bankers, the CEOs and the oligarchs.

I think you missed my point or perhaps you are just reinforcing it.

I think he's refuting your point quite succinctly. Detroit is the stereotypical shithole. The city is bankrupt. But there are still nice pictures you can pull out to make it look better than it actually is.

What point does this refute?

Your original point that just because they made the parts they want people to see look nice, it makes up for the fact that the rest of the city is neglected by the administration and is basically exactly the stereotypical shithole it has a reputation for?

Edit: clarity

Your select picture of sochi (and malta) don't mean much.

Detroit is a bankrupt shit hole, and it is still possible to take photos that make it look like paradise, just like your photos of sochi.

I got your point you're either a liar or a hypocrite. Either you lied when you said both sides should be presented because you did the same thing as the person that posted the photos before you or you don't care about fairness and simply can't handle anything bad being said about Russia. Which is it?

There's not many places like Detroit though. That's pretty much the worst-maintained city in a country of 300 million people.

That being said, the rest of the country certainly isn't Hollywood either, but the overwhelming majority of us aren't living in squalor.

Detroit does have some unique problems, but as a city, it's like any other city. The bad parts are pretty bad, no doubt. But the good parts are great, and people frequently overlook some really positive elements of Detroit.

You're absolutely right; they've done a whole lot of urban renewal, especially in the downtown area which is looking really great.

What the fuck does Detroit have to do with anything? You're lying, half of these pics aren't even from Sochi. Blatant misdirection, you should be ashamed of yourself.

As an american, I WANT pictures like that all over the place. I want people to know that we're not the beautiful utopia picture hollywood likes to paint.

Every city is ugly when you leave the commercialised zones. Sochi is no different, you could reproduce what OP did about any city you wanted, but he decided to ignore the nice parts of the city like the town square and olympic zone shown in this post.

Yeah, no.

Sorry OP, but I'm pretty sure you'd need to be living under a rock to think that Detroit is some type of utopia. Hollywood itself has been making jokes about the city the for years.

Nice try attempting to deflect onto America though.

Detroit is so bad that when Hollywood wants a bombed out wasteland of a setting it's the first place they head to.

I didn't say this. Go back and re-read what I said. Basic English.

>Nice try attempting to deflect onto America though.

It is an example (paraphrasing sour_creme) and as most people on reddit are American I presumed a good one. Sorry it is too complex for you.

I agree that OP is an ass, but it refers to the US in his comment.

>A side of the USA the most of the world never get to see as they are bombarded by Hollywood showing the US as some kind of utopia.

What he was saying is that the shitholes of the US (eg Detroit) are never seen around the world. He never said that Detroit is a utopia.

Corruption will do that. It depends on where you go in the US. Some places nice some places not. Detroit is horrible place. But this applies to everywhere.
