What an asshole. I bet he's the kind of kid who used to flip the monopoly board when he lost.
Last time I checked Gitmo mode wasn't present in Monopoly, I am not sure such a comparison is fair.
However "stealing from the Bank while siblings were fighting" was always a hidden feature in Monopoly, so maybe "feeding player characters rotten food" and "decapitating them for landing on park place" is also a feature hidden away in extreme monopoly.
Extreme monopoly
Why bother to steal money? He could just spoil some TV show his siblings are watching.
Wow thats worse than what the US govt. did to Chelsea Manning and socrates combined.
Unbelievable what the US did to Socrates.
Way to spoil this for me, dick, I haven't got to the part where Manning declares the name change yet.
Shit, I'm still reading about World War I. I need to catch up
But.. but...
No, he could have disconnected when they spotted him, and his avatar would have disappeared. He choose to stay online and let them kill him, as part of the game, and similarly, in game, he ruined something for them.
I can't say I agree with what he did, but I have no problem with how he did it.
Killing him is part of the game though, I've not played but I assume this as a feature and not an exploit. Spoiling thrones for these guys for playing the game how it was intended is kind of a dick move right?
Of course if this is just an exploit then fuck those guys too.
But here's the question. The real question.
This is supposed to be an ultra-realistic survival-game (with zombies thrown in). There's no intended play mode. You can be an ass, you can be an angel - basically, you can be anything but a pokemon - just like real life. There's no grand design for how it's supposed to be played, except that it should reflect reality.
How realistic is it that you can use your dying breath to fuck up these two guys enjoyment of a series?
I'd say it's pretty realistic.
That's my metric for whether or not what he did was wrong or right - not if it was nice or not, but whether it is something that fits into the DayZ universe.
Realistic, sure. But a complete dick move.
The torturers ruined the guy's fun in the game momentarily. The guy ruined the torturers enjoyment of their favorite show forever. The guy sounds like an incredibly bitter individual. "Since my fun was ruined for a little while, I'll make sure you'll never be able to enjoy the show you love as much as you would've otherwise."
I doubt the show is ruined for them FOREVER. Maybe it's just me, but I can still enjoy something despite story spoilers. If they're going to lose interest in a show because some jackass decided to get back at them, that's their problem.
Of course it's their problem. But that doesn't change the fact that the guy crossed the line with his revenge.
For me, something as minor as a fake spoiler is enough for me to enjoy something less than what I would've if I had heard nothing. When you know the direction something is going, or think you know, all the suspense disappears. Not knowing what's going to happen next is basically the most fundamental thing that keeps you interested in something.
But there is no "line" to cross. If you're gonna gib someone's character for funsies, and make them start ALL over again, and then DRAW out the process of killing them, I think it's perfectly reasonable to want to dick them over as well. And he did.
They gibbed his character momentarily. He gibbed something those guys enjoyed doing in their free time forever. There's no taking back spoilers. There's no respawning from it. It's stuck in your head.
Nope! That character is dead - permadeath is a key feature of DayZ, IIRC. Depending on how far along the murdered party was, it could take awhile to get back gear that he may have had. Could be a lot of time to do that, who knows? Point is, if you're going to permanently axe a person's character, you should expect to be fucked with.
>For me, something as minor as a fake spoiler is enough for me to enjoy something less than what I would've if I had heard nothing.
Dumbledore kills Gimli with Rosebud, the sleigh.
> Of course it's their problem. But that doesn't change the fact that the guy crossed the line with his revenge.
TIL spoiling a TV show is crossing the line. Somebody get the ICC after this guy.
Hah, yeah, absolutely! It really brings out ~~the bad~~ all sides of humanity. I guess that's what so engaging about this game.
> The guy ruined the torturers enjoyment of their favorite show forever.
Which is fucking hilarious and I wish more people would do it.
Well on the other hand: DayZ is pretty much an RPG (as in REAL roleplaying), and the game is a big sandbox... there ARE NO GOALS the game gives you.
These guys were never forced by the game to force feed him to death, they did so because they felt like doing so, so now they have to live with the consequences of their "crime". DayZ is a game that can be very VERY Meta, just like EVE, were naming space stations after GoT Spoilers or spoilers of other popular shows is actually a "defense mechanism", no one will attack them, or else they will have to read the name. And because of that high meta gameplay, methods even outside of the actual game engine are possible.
Also do not forget: that game has perma death... if you die ALL your progress is gone for good, so yeah I would be pretty pissed if someone were to kill me "just because".
That's cool, I didn't realise the full extent of the game, especially the perma death aspect. Maybe it's not such an asshole move.
You know, it would actually be great if everyone started shouting stuff like this when they're being tortured. You know, for rp purposes.
