Hmm, new user called "I-really-fucked-up"? And 75k is a pretty absurd figure. This one has "social experiment" written all over it. But I guess I'll believe "her".... for now...

EDIT: Actually... no.... I don't...

i feel like i could have sex with most anyone on a solid 1k=1 session basis. I mean, I don't have the initiative or tools to really become a high-class pansexual hooker myself, but if I could just fall into the position, really, it seems like it would be a great deal.

Why do you think sex has any relationship with dignity?

I feel like this is an appeal to purity or some other quasi-superstitious virtue that doesn't make any empirical or analytic sense when looked at more closely.

She describes it as a position that was open, and presumably the salary they were offering was decided before she spoke to her boss. Don't think of it as "got a $75k raise for sleeping with the boss", but "got a job for sleeping with the boss". The latter sounds much more plausible than the former. I can look through the papers any given week and find jobs that pay hundreds of thousands more than I earn.

The funniest part is she went to her boss to stop sexual harassment by her coworkers, and then slept with him when he sexually harassed her (as a bartering tool to end the sexual harassment). Yeah, I totally believe a woman did that.

I was thinking this, and it probably confirms I'm a terrible person. If my girlfriend came to me and said "I will get an extra $75k a year on my salary, totally clean money, if I fuck my boss once a year. Do I have your permission?" I would probably be already packing my bags for Barbados and asking if he would throw in some extra vacation time. Also if they were hiring and/or he's into threesomes.

Same. If my girlfriend could get 75k just for sleeping with some dude, as long it's not unprotected or anything, I'd probably think worse of her if she didn't do it. I mean, if the guy's a dick about it and adds stipulations that make her quasi-property, then yeah, fuck that guy, but if it's just sex then holy shit girl get that money.

That's four year's college tuition (at an expensive college) for one kid. Or a house. Oh my god.

There's not a lot of legal things I wouldn't do short of permanently maiming myself or harming an animal or another person (without their consent) for $75k. I guess that makes me a whore but that is a fucking lot of money. Jesus, if someone paid me that much just for sex, I'd probably be getting the most pleasure out of it because I've got a pussy that coveted.

I've been poor. People slave for 40 hours/week, no holiday pay, etc. for 20k/yr, if that. Whole families working just above minimum wage jobs to support each other.

In my view, not taking something huge like 75k for some trivially easy (but slightly deviant) thing just seems... entitled or ungrateful or some sentiment along those lines. I realize not everyone sees this the way I do, but it seems like the decision to decline something out of dignity is only something you'd think about if you never really had to struggle hard for money.

The story is that she would get promoted to a job that paid her $75k more a year. So the boss didn't even have to spend anything the have sex with her, the company did. And if she's incompetent at the job, which is has a high probability, she can presumably be fired.

She sounds exactly like the kind of girl I would pay $0 to have sex with, and have someone else cough up the dough.

I can't believe how many people are advocating her not telling him. There is always a chance he will find out unintentionally, and the breach of trust from a) cheating on him and then the condescension of b) lying to him about it to "protect him" would be way worse than being cheated on and then having them own up to it. The latter can be legitimately seen as an accident, while the former is a complete lack of honesty.

It's cool to have extramarital sex for money if your partner is cool with it too, but we're going with the working hypothesis that this dude isn't okay with that.

If my wife came to me and told me that if she slept with her icky boss once, we could get 75k per year extra, I would definitely strongly consider it, and I would probably leave the decision up to her. If she did it first without asking, I would probably be super pissed but I would understand and it's probably something I could get over. But if she did it and didn't tell me for years and I found out somehow, that betrayal of trust would wreck me, and I don't think I could get past it. If would ruin my whole concept of trust.

I dunno man, if I was her husband, it was a one time thing and she and that guy were the only people who knew, I don't think I'd want to know. I can see the utilitarian perspective here, it's the one outcome of the situation (if you assume its after the 75k master vagina episode) that doesn't end up with everybody in their family being in world of shit.

People are either joking or being serious about "75k?! I'd be upset if my wife didn't do it. Har har he he."

It's that it's a secret that would upset me. Maybe I would be cool with that...I'm not very jealous and have a cuckold fantasy. But the idea of my (future) wife just making that decision by herself...yeah, I'd be pretty hurt. And if I was ever in that position I'd want her to fess up. Not cover it up to protect me. Apparently that's a weird thing in some circles of reddit. If I marry you, we need to be honest about this kind of shit. That doesn't seem crazy to me.

This is probably fake and all, but this is one of the few circumstances in which I'd tell somebody to be quiet about cheating. A one-time thing for a great benefit without any feelings involved is probably the most forgivable circumstance of cheating. It feels more like a business transaction than actual cheating. I can see why others would feel differently, though.

  • [-]
  • throwinout
  • -9 Points
  • 20:11:24, 6 December

I think the opposite. "Just sex" cheating is worse in my opinion. If its about "just sex" to get whatever benefit, then the cheater could do it with presumably anyone. Someone the cheater has feelings for? It shrinks the pool a bit.

  • [-]
  • snallygaster

Just goes to show how much variance there is in what constitutes infidelity and how severe an act may be considered. To me, the absence of feelings or attraction towards the person requesting sex makes it somewhat acceptable, or at least forgivable. Hell, if my SO was offered a raise that big in exchange for a night of sex, I'd drive him to the motel and tell him to have a good time. To me, if there are no emotions or attraction involved, there's no real intimacy, and it's more of a transaction. That said, "just sex" with attraction involved, or nothing offered in return, is only slightly less bad as emotionally intimate sex imo.

I'm not sure she would. She basically sold sex for a promotion.

The initial offer was certainly sexual harassment, but her going through with it changes the circumstances. At no point was she in danger of losing her job.

Legally I think she'd have no chance to prove her argument.

Obviously she handled the situation incorrectly. If she didn't trust HR, which I can understand; she should have spoken with a lawyer. Not slept with her boss and receive an obvious financi benefit from doing so.

In any case I'm certain this whole story is fiction.

So she's in the free and clear, she'd get to keep her job - even if she received it unethically?

Or would she just be fired, but receive a "golden parachute" by suing?

So IANAL but - if the company wanted to do anything to her they'd have to 'prove' that she was an eager, willing participant - which would be very difficult and bad PR as all she'd have to do is say she felt like if she said 'No' she lose her job and how do you prove her wrong? In our fantasyLand story she's an eager participant but in realityLand it just doesn't happen like that.

Moreover there are strict rules against retaliation against harassment victims and whistle-blowers so the couldn't fire get or force her back into her old job without looking like they were punishing her for being harassed.

Moral of the story: just don't harass. It's not that hard.

Did I just see a woman admit wrongdoing to upvotes on Reddit? Where are all the women haters? Are they ok? Should someone check?
