I'm pretty sure advice animals cares way more about this dude getting criticized then the dude ever did.

Also, it's not like those women wouldn't get criticized if they represented an international space agency to the press while only wearing a bra.

That's not even what they were protesting for either.

Seriously, when has a feminist ever said "I can wear whatever I want to work, and my male colleagues can't be offended."

But if people are going to take all of this way out of context, that just means more butter for us.

It's easier to debate when your opponents are made out of straw.

They're entirely missing the point. Sure I can wear a shirt with naked women on it to an interview, but I'm going to look like an idiot and chances are someone is going to call me out for looking like an idiot.

Just because you have the right to wear whatever you want doesn't mean you should.

Calling someone an idiot is different to calling them a misogynist.

His shirt didn't have naked women in it.

The point is, if you wear a stupid shirt, people have tree right to call it stupid. Doesn't matter what's on it.

Well, which clothes are stupid is subjective. In any case, I think most people aren't bothered about the criticism. It's the fact that people are calling it misogynistic, which is ridiculous.

I don't find that ridiculous at all. Yeah, I know he has women on the team. Yeah, I know a woman made the shirt. That doesn't mean that the shirt isn't misogynistic. Wearing that shirt on the biggest day of his life when he knew he would be on national TV sends a message.

Sometimes a tacky shirt is just a tacky shirt.

Can we please not do this "everything is either misogyny and/or rape" trope? The shirt was tacky, perhaps, but it was not indicative of a deeply rooted hatred of women.

That doesn't mean that the shirt isn't misogynistic? Oof. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_negative

Do you think the shirt is misogynistic? If so, why?

How is it misogynistic? Misogyny is the hate or dislike of women. The guy is from Europe, we don't see sex or the naked body as such a bad thing here.

Wearing that shirt on the biggest day of his life when he knew he would be on national TV sends a message.

Yup. Maybe that message was to the person who made the shirt?

The problem is a bunch of people attached their political agenda into a global event. They saw their in and took it. The rest is a circlejerk for people who love drama.

edit: a word.

Well, a few weeks ago there was drama regarding school dress codes, with many people in SRD taking the position that it was wrong to send a girl home for wearing shorts that were too short...

> "I can wear whatever I want to work, and my male colleagues can't be offended."

Several times. For example, going to work in a skirt/dress and unshaved legs

Or wear a dress/skirt with unshaved legs and a tank top with unshaved armpits

Which are pretty disgusting and unprofessional (and pretty much the reason why men can't go to work in shorts or tank tops to begin with).

Is this one of those threads where you pretend feminists are super-compliant with working etiquette and don't try to bend it at their pleasure justifying it with "FEMINISM! PATRIARCHY!", and whoever does it Is Not A True Feminist?

Body hair coupled with otherwise acceptable work attire is quite different than a shirt with half-naked women on it. Those women also aren't in a position to nationally represent their industry. Like, I think this whole thing has been blown up to ridiculous, absurd proportions, but if you're going to make comparisons, at least make fair ones.

This user claimed that no woman ever said something of the kind. I showed that they have. Whatever other point you are trying to make, I'm not interested in arguing, otherwise I would have included it in my OP. So unless you have something to comment on that subject, your comment has absolutely nothing to do with mine.

Well if you want to go that route, asking advice about showing body hair at work isn't the same as saying "I can wear whatever I want whenever I want and no one can be upset about it ever."

A woman not shaving her legs or armpits is not the same as this at all. You haven't demonstrated anything.

Wait your rebuttal is a woman on tumblr who is afraid of being sent home for inappropriate work attire? Just like this guy should have been?

Like, you know hair is natural right? And you have hair? And women grow hair? You're aware that women shaving is totally a human construct and completely unnatural, right?

Are you saying that shorts and a tank top would be acceptable if the men shaved? lol

That would depend on the context of the workplace. If it was a place that has rules about what you can and can't wear then sure but if it was a casual place with no rules about appearance and someone said "oh no that outfit shows to much skin" I can imagine some feminists flipping shit.

It's like the op googled "feminism", chose the first image he found that he thought would make feminism look bad and made an image macro out of it.

IDK I laughed a bit but it was more about how stupid the image was than anything. In a way, it beautifully sums up the more extreme members of the mens rights movement: a man getting angry messages on twitter is equivalent to rape.

Right, in the bra example it would be fine to criticize her choice of clothing. It would be fine to call her an idiot for wearing only a bra. It would not be ok to call her a slut.

The problem is when you start inferring stuff about a person without any evidence. The guy wore a tacky shirt, so go ahead and make fun of him for his tacky shirt, but don't go and assume anything except that he has terrible fashion sense.

There are some feminists who would say that women should be able to go to work in just a bra, and be offended by this guys shirt.

The problem with the internet is you can choose who you want to argue with, and that is who most of /r/funny is talking about. They do this because it's extremely easy to win their arguments. That is also what /r/TumblrInAction and /r/SubredditDrama do. We like to feel superior so we choose stupid people debate with.
