A mature, thoughtful discussion surrounding the ethics and value of such a subreddit and the sociability of its userbase takes place, wherein nobody accuses OP of having a punchable face and tangential allusions to GamerGate are not made. I don't understand why her face is punchable enough to make the front page. Is it because she's wearing an odd shade of lipstick? Because she's a feminist? A vegetarian? I don't...

Edit: Oh, looks like people are finding her other social media accounts. I'm sure that will turn out great.

Oh come now, you and I (and everyone else) knows the reason that Reddit wants to punch her in the face. Because she's not the kind of woman Reddit approves of.

edit lol remember kids, doxxing is bad when Gawker does it.

Fascinating. It's not OK for men to be doxxed but it's ok to harass women with threats of violence for creating a tinder account. Keep fucking that chicken.

Actually, it's about ethics in game journalism.

Okay when did this become about gender exactly? Have any of you people looked at the frontpage of that subreddit? The top voted posts? Count the proportion of men and women and draw your own conclusions.

But is it really a "threat of violence" though? Saying something is "punchable" isn't saying "Somebody totally needs to punch this person".

If you can produce 1 instance of a person actually being punched as a result of that sub then I would agree with you. Until then, take it for what it is, stupid hater catharsis fun...

EDIT: Readability...

Well, it's definitely closer to a threat than, say, "I dislike her lipstick" or "Her face is annoying."

I mean... it's got "punch" in there. So implied threat of violence?

Not legit, actionable threat, call the FBI stuff.

At the risk of overly dissecting the word itself, "punch" does carry with it a threatening intonation. But I don't think saying that someone is punchable necessarily implies that you wish to visit violence upon them. Basically, intonation isn't the same as inclination or intent.

However, I can totally understand why someone would think differently. You don't say someone is "fuckable" if you didn't legitimately believe that you would fuck them if given the chance.

It toes the line, but I'm more apt to think that it's meant more to hold the subject up to ridicule than anything more sinister than that...

Oh, I agree. I think it's like a 4 on the Implication of Violence scale (out of 10, with 10 being the FBI coming to talk to you about what you said online about killing people).

There are other ways to say you don't like someone, but English is an expressive language.

When I said I wanted to kill my little sister for stealing all my fancy hair ties when I was a kid, I didn't actually want to kill her.

yeah, you probably also didn't subscribe to a forum dedicated to "killable sisters." I don't assume everyone who says "God, I just want to punch them in the face!" means exactly that but when you're actively wanting to see people who apparently are supposed to provoke that thought with looks alone, it is a little concerning.
