Jesus, I don't think i've ever seen anyone so condescending to others.
/u/-Richard- , I think you should read this book by Dale Carnegie. Might help how you view people.
it's easy to appear condescending when this post was made after several hours of brigading by /r/undelete and /r/mensRights. This particular user had already messaged us several times with the same line of questions and each time we answered they said they didn't believe us and wanted a 'better' explanation. They also reposted the same removed link to 'see what happens'. I'm generally very professional when dealing with people who have a disagreement with the way TIL is moderated, but those patience wear pretty thin when the person is simply out for blood.
This is true, and can't say I'd be happy in your situation either. However, I think it could have been handled better by having an open dialog with them and simply copy and pasting the reasons to anyone who asked why with the message: "Due to the large amount of people contacting us about this, we have decided to present our argument like this via copy and pasting our argument to everyone who asks about it. If you feel our argument is wrong/flawed, feel free to contact us again, but remember: were are not perfect. We have flaws, biases, and feelings. "
Though, it's far easier to criticizes than it is to actually do something in the moment (Hell, they're are times when I look back and I see things that could have been handled much better, but at the time probably weren't very feasible). So for that, I'm sorry I assumed your were being condescending to them. Still, I really recommend this book. It helped change my life and attitude with people.
>simply copy and pasting the reasons
You should see the people getting mad that they are getting a pre-canned response instead of a completely custom articulate response to their pre-canned question
> I'm sorry I assumed your were being condescending to them
it's cool. You made a fair point.
>You should see the people getting mad that they are getting a pre-canned response instead of a completely custom articulate response to their pre-canned question
Do people really get that mad at pre-canned responses from mods? TIL. When I frequented forums, the mods did that all the time, and the members preferred it. Eh, I guess it's just a difference in the culture between the two sites (given reddit is much bigger than this forum was [It wasn't small, though. Had 1,000+ users and 10k guests at any given time. The sites dead now, though]).
Ive been reading up on this and seen a ton of screenshots and links. In every single one you were are the attack and insulting. I would think if you actually did try to handle this professionally in the beginning there would be proof of that. People have asked very nicely for a simple explanation and every time you ignore or start bashing.
> In every single one you were are the attack and insulting.
You mean somebody who is posting selectively edited screenshots of a conversation would dare to edit it to paint the other person in a bad light? on my reddit? I refuse to believe that.
>I would think if you actually did try to handle this professionally in the beginning there would be proof of that.
You mean like moderator distinguished comments in the removed thread clearly explaining why the post was removed?
>People have asked very nicely
lol
> and every time you ignore or start bashing.
yep, every time, the mods of TIL have not made a single comment (mush less a distinguished one in the removed post) clearly explaining the rationale for the removal
