I'm tired and have to study for my exam so I will be back in ~4 hours. If someone wants to continue posting links feel free to do so in the comments.

Also can someone make something similar to SRSes effort post extension? It would make this a lot easier.

Plenty more coming. For now here is the butter you get.

My current operating hypothesis is that Gamergate has evolved into some sort of shamanic, quasi-religious festival or ritual where outraged hordes encircle a massive central totem and snarl obscenities and insults at each other, as elders chant duelling choruses of SRS and MRA jingoism.

It's one thing to speak out against bigotry and harassment in gaming. It's another thing to manufacture it. This Kluwe nonsense is just trolling cloaked in the illusion of social justice. I'll have no part of it.

Epic. GG is a drama bomb that surpasses even May May June, but with 100% more hate, bile, and death threats. It's like /pol/ has just gone ahead and moved HQ to reddit. I guess we're witnessing the new rise of the reactionary right wing as a permanent part of reddit.

No fucking doubt. It's not cute. And it's not fun. It's the worst.

But I feel like it's the white head on the pimple of the whole feminist backlash that's been clogging the pores of the Internet for a long time, festering like a painful and enormous cystic zit under the surface. Now it's raised, and all we can do is clumsily paw at it, squeezing, painfully, in vain while it threatens to rape game critics and shoot up colleges.

The Retin-A. It does nothing.

Hopefully soon it will pop under the weight of its own greasy lunacy and the disgusting white goop of GamerGate will be relegated to sticking to the bathroom mirror where it will serve as a reminder of the gawky, ugly, teenage awkwardness we all felt and despised. Then we can get back to what's actually important: making fun of the red pill and conspiracy theorists. Yanno. The fun stuff.

I started out as someone who thought gaming journalism should be reformed. It's obvious certain companies buy favorable reviews, and the lack of transparency about that was unnerving. It's indicative of what I see as an overall, disconcerting trend of corporate involvement in the media as a whole. While I appreciate corporations for allowing me access to that media, I'd prefer not to consume media that's been influenced by outside sources. What can I say? I like making my own decisions.

I, wrongly, believed that the focus on gaming journalism would invoke a broader reform of journalism writ large, a period of financial and ethical accountability. It has not done that. Instead, it's become a garbage heap of Elliot Rodgers Jr's complaining about how feminism has ruined their lives because Anita Sarkessian is pretty vocal about not liking to look at scantily clad women in video games. It's pathetic.

The rape threats have got to stop. The death threats have got to stop. If gamergate wants to be taken seriously as a movement about ethical journalism it needs to be more vocal about denouncing those actions.

Just my two cents.

> If gamergate wants to be taken seriously as a movement about ethical journalism it needs to be more vocal about denouncing those actions.

It is denounced every day in every related thread on KiA. The problem is I'd wager 95% of detractors don't actively read what GG is saying.

We who believe in the journalistic reform message of GG simply cannot stop psychopathic individuals from making threats. Are there some bonafide harassers in the GG camp? absolutely. The problem is...all it takes is an addition of the #GamerGate hashtag on the end of a tweet, and you've now painted a whole mass of individuals as assholes.

I have never performed anything close to rape or death threats, and I'm not unique. I will not apologize for the actions of psychopaths who have no real relation to a cause I identify with.

No one wants to open their mind, I mean LOOK at this exchange.

Until we stop thinking of anyone who disagree with us as a faceless enemies, the damaging narrative on both sides can never change.

Some background.

Kluwe is a former NFL player who showed up in r/nfl from time to time.

He likes to play video games, and his leaving the NFL coincided with some homophobic remarks made in the locker room by coaches and a lawsuit by Kluwe.

He has recently been none too kind in his critique of Gamergate:

https://medium.com/the-cauldron/why-gamergaters-piss-me-the-f-off-a7e4c7f6d8a6

So showing up in KiA is pretty much bound to be a bomb.

Since I'm in here early for once, and seem to be the resident KiA punchingbag I'll just say this.

People get mad at GG for a variety of reason, but one of them is that we purportedly latch on to anyone on "our side" dispite what their background is, or what they say and do.

Chris is not a journalist, but instead identifies himself as just a gamer. The problem is, he's a super negative gamer...and he's on the anti-GG side.

Here's some quotes from Chris that I posted below, and are from the linked thread:

>wannabe Wikipedia philosophers, drunk on your own buzzwords, incapable of forming an original thought

>paint-huffing shitgoblins

>angry neckbeards

>slopebrowed weaseldicks with zero reading comprehension and even less critical thinking skills

>basement-dwelling, cheetos-huffing, poopsock-sniffing douchepistol

>You don’t even see the complete idiocy of this idea because you’re too busy wargleblargling your face into your keyboard.

>misogynistic mouthbreathers who get off on making rape threats against women

>I hope you all, every #Gamergater, picks up a debilitating case of genital warts.

No one seems to care/believe that GGers are also receiving harassment or threats, but here's a clear example of exactly what got reasonable people like me on the GG side.

If he's the kind of person that you stand behind and cheer as an anti-GGer, than I would take a step back and consider that maybe your "side" is more similar to the negative parts of GG than you had previously believed.

Over 1500+ comments in one thread in five hours, and 200+ comments in another thread in one hour. Chris Kluwe has created a drama wave which will certainly cause a lot of users to vote/comment in other subs. That should be fun when (if?) the admins decide they've had enough. Kluwe might even get banned if he isn't careful. Before you know it the admins can decide that he used his twitter to ask for upvotes.

For some background on Kluwe that a lot of regulars won't give in this thread. He was a sub par punter for the vikings and got cut because he wasn't good enough, then a while later he came out and said the vikings fired him because he got upset that an assistant coach made homophobic comments. This wasn't true and in fact it came out that Kluwe was making insensitive jokes about Jerry Sandusky and the Penn State child abuse scandal he used to be loved in /r/nfl but is now widely seen as a whiny attention whore.

  • [-]
  • respaaaaaj

He was actually the best Punter in Vikings history, his problem was that he was a veteran getting paid way more than a rookie punter would, and under the system the Vikes ran any punter was as good as another. There are only like 5 punters in the nfl who are good enough to have it be worth paying him more than a 7th round pick or a undafted free agent. Add in drawing much more attention that any other punter, which is supposed to be a seen but not heard position, and he was fucked.
