It isn't racism. Its a response to oppression. The Jailer CANNOT accuse the jailed as being prejudiced against him. That is fundamentally nonsensical.
Implying that on an individual level it makes a difference. Try telling a kid who is bullied for his skin color that it's not so bad, because he's the oppressor.
I'm not arguing that bullying or violence is ever justified. I'm simply making the point that its a response to oppression past and present, not racism.
It's absolutely racism - there's a difference between institutional (power+prejudice) and individual (just assholes) racism, and this is the second one. This kid isn't oppressing shit, and he's being treated badly just because he looks like the employer or lawmaker or whatever that wronged them.
Fair enough. I can understand the anger, but I just don't see how it's constructive or beneficial. Also like the other guy said, what's the difference between institutional racism and racism then?

Every white person in America is the beneficiary of a racist past, and a racist present. African Americans HAVE EVERY RIGHT to be angry about that. I'm a white man. To benefit from the oppression of others, AND be angry when I'm disliked for it is childish, and speaking from an absurd position of privlage.

Racism is not remembered. It is prevelent, constant, it is in the load bearing stones of our society. As a white male, I've benefited from our nations history of exploitation, and the contintued social privalge of being white. That is reprehensible, and yet I'm allowed to complain about someone being angry at white people for kicking the shit out of their community? That is absurd.
I'm an Indian male. I've been mocked harassed and been called names like sand nigger just for the color of my skin. Im happy you acknowledge your benefits as white. However, acknowledgement of white privilege should not come at the cost of silence to harassment. I don't lose anything from a white person using the word racism. Hell, this would be a great teaching activity to treat everyone the same without the bigotry and hated of casual racism!

Listen to yourself, you sound so self-loathing, like you think you're some kind of racist abomination. Take a step back, realize that you didn't do any of these things. It's not your fault that people who aren't you did something horrible before you were born.
It's very noble of you to accept that sort of responsibility, but it was never thrust upon you, nobody sensible is going to lump the blame of every racist ever upon your shoulders.
That only makes sense if I wasn't STILL benefiting from those horrible things. That doesn't make me an abomination, but it does mean I have a responsibility to acknolage those past acts and ways those acts continue to ripple throughout our society.
Why not just make the best with what you have to make tomorrow better for everyone equally, instead of focusing on the wrongdoings of the past?
Acknowledge that shitty things happen, sure. But wasting those lost lives and freedoms that made you you just to bitch seems counterproductive.

It takes efforts from both sides to fight racism. But you are going to get nowhere if minorities are spewing hate because "reverse racism doesnt real"
Past exploitation of minorities really shouldn't have any bearing on this. That makes minority prejudice against white people understandable, but it should still never be acceptable. People should be held accountable for their own actions regardless of the color of their skin (which is the whole basis for racial tolerance). That should be a two-way street. Being angry at a person who did nothing wrong simply because another person of the same skin color did something you don't like is not civilized, not to mention just a shitty way to act. This should apply to all races, not just whites.

The people in the jail are there because they did something wrong. How can any prejudice exist?I mean if they were being held illegally by captors or something. . .
He's trying to say that white people are the jailers, and poc/minorities/anyone non-white are the prisoners, so to say that as a white person, when someone is racist/oppresses you, it's equivalent to a jailer complaining about the prisoners being unfair to the jailer.

Could you elaborate on that? I'm not saying all white people are evil or immoral. I'm saying we are the beneficiaries of an immoral system, and deserved to be held accountable for those benefits. That can lead to people oppressed by that system to view us warily. I see no problem with that.

There's a difference between being cognizant of certain privileges afforded to you in society for being white and just being a straight up pussy.
